It measures one thing: what a golfer does on the hole immediately after a bogey. In 2020, Scottie Scheffler was paired with Tiger Woods at the Masters. Tiger made a 10 on a par-3. Double digits. At Augusta. Then he walked to the next tee. No tantrum. No collapse. No poor body language He played the next six holes five under par. Scheffler watched every second of it. That moment became his blueprint. Today, Scheffler is the No. 1 golfer in the world. His Bounce Back rate: 36.5%. Tour average: 21%. That 15% gap? The data shows an 80% overlap between the top 10 money earners and the players with the highest Bounce Back rankings. Resilience isn't a soft skill. It's a revenue strategy. You don't lose because of one bad decision. You lose because of the five reactive decisions you make right after it. The bogey isn't the problem. The spiral is. Yet every time we start something new, we default to wanting it easy, fast, stress-free. But when going river rafting, no one picks the lazy river. Beginner rapids? Calm. Predictable. Forgettable. Expert-level? Twists, unknowns, heart racing. That's where the story lives. Including mine. When I stepped down from my own startup to teach meditation full-time, the fear wasn't really about the decision. It was about disappointing people. Being seen as someone who "gave up." Watching faces wonder if I'd lost my mind. But my team needed the freedom to lead without me. And I needed to listen to something I’d been ignoring. My friends and I call these moments "bends in the river." Those stretches where you can't see the destination, but you know the current is taking you somewhere you need to go. The struggle isn't slowing you down. It's sharpening you. So next time you wish things were easier, look at that winding path behind you. The straight line? No one tells that story. And no one is inspired by it either. The detours. The pivots. The terrifying leaps. That’s the story your grandkids will tell their grandkids. That's the one that gives someone else permission to keep going. The bends in the river aren't blocking your success.
