Heather Harris reposted thisHeather Harris reposted thisThis week, our extended People Team leadership came together in Frisco, TX to explore the forces shaping the future of work. We focused on the themes that matter most—AI, Culture, Talent, and Leadership—and had the opportunity to learn from industry experts who challenged our thinking and inspired new possibilities. Beyond the strategy and insights, what made this gathering truly special was the space we created to be real—with each other and with the work ahead. We built new relationships, had honest conversations, and yes, had a lot of fun along the way. I’m filled with gratitude and humbled to lead this team at a time when HR has never been more essential. I truly believe we’re standing at a turning point for our profession. We’re ready. TIAA #FutureOfWork #HRStrategy

Heather Harris shared thisSo thrilled for our incredible Micky Onvural! Truly one of the most inspiring leaders I’ve had the privilege to work with, congratulations MickyHeather Harris shared thisThere are many lists of marketers, but being recognized on this year’s Forbes Entrepreneurial CMO 50 list is particularly meaningful to me. Entrepreneurial is not the first word that springs to mind when you think about marketing a 100-year old retirement company. But, what my team and I know is that if we are going to solve the retirement crisis in this country we are going to have to take an innovative and sometimes disruptive approach to our work. I'm so proud to lead this team and together challenge the status quo and push boundaries so that we can help millions more Americans retire securely. https://lnkd.in/eXCjsV-s

Heather Harris reposted thisHeather Harris reposted thisOver the last 100 years, policymakers and employers have made significant strides in advancing retirement security. The advent of Social Security, private pensions, 401ks and other defined contribution plans has enabled more Americans to retire with dignity and access to lifetime income. To enhance the security of all American workers, we need to do much more. Check out this 1-minute video for a view of the history of employee benefits, and TIAA’s fight for guaranteed lifetime income. https://lnkd.in/e-M7vhgf #LifetimeIncome #Retirement #LongevityLiteracy

Heather Harris reacted on thisHeather Harris reacted on thisFor the first 30+ years of my life, I was an achievement addict. My pattern was simple: identify a goal, figure out the rules of the game, work really hard, and achieve it. It wasn’t for ego. It just made me feel good. And it also served me incredibly well… leading to lots of education, cool experiences, and early success in my career. Everything I was “supposed” to do in the “achievement” definition of success, I did. Until achieving didn’t work anymore. A couple years after having my daughter, I had a moment that changed everything. Sitting at my desk one night after she went to bed, looking out into our dark yard, I realized: I had ticked the boxes of everything I’d set out to achieve. But I felt empty. That’s when I understood: achievement—or following someone else’s definition of success—wasn’t really what I wanted. What I really wanted was to learn, explore, express, and share in ways that would be helpful to others and that would make me happy. Said differently: I wanted to create. So slowly, slowly I started to change my patterns and build a different kind of life. Among other things, I started my own company, creating my own approach instead of following someone else’s consulting playbook. I wrote books to express what I’d learned—in work and life. And I started a tradition with my daughter—bucket list trips each year before she leaves for college—so we can explore, have fun, and make memories together. (The photo here is from our most recent trip) Interestingly, when I shifted my identity from achieving to creating, it changed how I see leading, too. The job of a leader isn’t to achieve results by following someone else’s playbook. It’s to create a brighter future—for our teams, our company, the people we serve. And we can’t create the future by ticking boxes. We create it by charting our own path. #leadbrighter #leadership #possibility #wayfinding

Heather Harris reacted on thisHeather Harris reacted on thisRecognition isn’t optional, it’s how strong cultures are built and sustained. Last week at the Elevate Awards for TIAA Retirement Solutions, that was on full display. An incredible evening celebrating the people who are raising the bar and driving real impact. I had the privilege of serving as an award presenter alongside Jill Popovich and attending with my leader, Raymond Bellucci. The highlight for me was seeing two members of my own team, Jason Frizzell, CFP® and Kevin Antol, MBA, CLU, recognized for their outstanding contributions. Proud is an understatement. Moments like these matter. They reinforce what excellence looks like and inspire all of us to keep pushing forward. Thank you Kourtney Gibson for your leadership, vision and commitment to building the kind of world class culture that enables us all to thrive. #Leadership #Recognition #Culture #Teamwork #TIAA

Heather Harris reacted on thisHeather Harris reacted on thisHad the privilege of guest lecturing for an undergraduate class at the Belk College of Business this week. It was one of those experiences that reminded me why I’m so passionate about developing early talent. There was one thing I wanted to leave the students with when thinking about their post-graduate career: Get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Here’s the truth nobody really prepares you for… Almost everything worth doing to land your first job and launch your career feels uncomfortable. 🎯 Balancing your GPA while working a part-time job while staying involved on campus while hunting for internships? Uncomfortable. 🎯 Reaching out to someone you admire and asking for 30 minutes of their time for an informational interview? Uncomfortable. 🎯 Walking up to a recruiter’s table at a career fair when your palms are sweating and you’re not sure your elevator pitch even makes sense? Uncomfortable. 🎯 Doing the deep, honest work of defining who you are, what you uniquely bring to the table, and figuring out where you fit in a complex business landscape? Uncomfortable. The students who lean into that tension instead of running from it are the ones who separate themselves every single time! To anyone early in their career reading this: don’t wait for the discomfort to go away… It won’t! But your ability to move through it will become one of your greatest assets in the workforce. Do the work now… your future self will thank you later! Thank you for having me Karla Liboreiro, MBA, Ph.D.

Heather Harris reacted on thisHeather Harris reacted on thisWatching my daughters at the office made me rethink what a career really is. For years, I’ve thought about work in terms of outcomes, performance, and progress. Seeing it through their eyes was different. They weren’t focused on titles or results. They noticed how people interacted, who others listened to, who seemed energized, and who didn’t. It made me realize that a career isn’t defined only by what you achieve, but by the decisions you make along the way and how those decisions shape the outcome. In investing, the hardest decisions are the ones where the outcome isn’t clear. You don’t have all the information, and you still have to act. Careers work the same way. The path isn’t built on certainty, it’s built on a series of decisions made without knowing exactly how they will turn out. Over time, those decisions compound through the people you learn from, the moments you chose to speak up, and the risks you take before you feel fully ready. We spend a lot of time talking about finding the right job. It’s more about making the right decisions consistently over time. Take a moment to think about the small decisions you’re making right now, and what those decisions are adding up to. Because one day, someone will be watching how you make those decisions. #BringYourKidsToWorkDay

Many organizations talk about investing in their teams, but without a shared understanding of what that means, expectations can easily become misaligned. An Employee Value Proposition (EVP) defines what growth, development, and advancement look like within your organization and how you’ll support those opportunities. When done well, it lays the foundation for equitable, transparent, and strategic talent development. Our latest blog, written by Monique Mehta, Graham Murphy, and Kunza Shakil, explores how a clear EVP can strengthen engagement, belonging, and mission alignment across your organization. I'll let you in on a secret. Most L&D teams are hemorrhaging top talent before they even start because their onboarding is a mind-numbing checklist of paperwork and boring PowerPoints. → The real cost? Up to $25,000 per lost employee and countless hours of wasted potential. Your new hires are craving an experience that makes them feel valued, equipped, and excited about their role. They want immersive learning that speaks their language—interactive, personalized, and meaningful. Here's how high-performing organizations are rebuilding onboarding from the ground up: By creating experiences that engage, not just inform. Think bite-sized learning modules, AI-powered role play scenarios, and virtual environments that turn first-day jitters into first-week momentum. The data is crystal clear: Companies with strong onboarding improve new hire retention by 82% and productivity by 70%. But traditional approaches? They're leaving massive performance gaps wide open. Get the 5-step immersive onboarding framework that top L&D teams are using to win talent

On Why CLO’s must have a seat at the strategy table? In today’s business landscape—where talent agility, retention, and transformation are make-or-break factors—the role of the Chief Learning Officer (CLO)/Head of L&D has never been more critical. But here’s the paradox: while organizations talk about people being their greatest asset, learning leaders are often left out of the rooms where real decisions are made. This needs to change! As someone leading learning and talent at scale, I’ve seen how L&D leaders can - - Identify capability gaps early - Turn insights into action - Drive measurable business outcomes - Build leadership pipelines - Enable digital transformation - Reduce attrition cost - Shape the future workforce - Embed culture, not just skills But this impact only happens when we’re brought in at the start—not after decisions are made. If you’re a business leader, I urge you to look at your L&D head not just as a program manager—but as a partner in transformation. I’d love to hear your experiences—has your L&D team earned its seat at the table? What helped make that shift possible? #LearningAndDevelopment #CLO #ChiefLearningOfficer #StrategicHR #TalentDevelopment #WorkplaceLearning #L&DLeadership #FutureOfWork #BusinessGrowth #SkillsStrategy #EmployeeExperience #DigitalTransformation #LeadershipDevelopment #OrganizationalDevelopment #HRStrategy
