Addressing social determinants of health, such as food security, is a critical component of building thriving, equitable communities. On December 10, 2025, in partnership with Goodr and Rockdale County Public Schools, we launched the Goodr Grocery Store at C.J. Hicks Elementary School. The on-campus market was designed to help address food insecurity and support student well-being. While there are many factors that can influence student attendance and engagement, the school's results are encouraging: ✅ Absent days decreased by 43% ✅ Daily absences decreased by 33% ✅ Present days increased by 26% ✅ Unexcused absence days decreased by 42% ✅ Student enrollment increased by 3% These are meaningful indicators for the C.J. Hicks community and underscore the importance of addressing social drivers of health as part of a broader approach to student and community well-being. These encouraging results underscore the powerful link between food access and educational success. Addressing nutritional needs is an essential investment in the health, growth, and potential of our youth. Each family took home more than a week's worth of fresh produce, meats, seafood, and pantry staples — at no cost. The Bronx has the highest rate of food insecurity of any borough in New York City, with nearly 40% of adults reporting limited or uncertain access to adequate food. Days like this bring groceries directly to the neighborhoods where access is hardest to come by. Beyond the market, families connected with free skin cancer screenings from Evernorth, summer meal program resources from No Kid Hungry, healthy cooking demos, and youth basketball activities. NBA Draft Prospects and NBA Legend Carlos Boozer were on hand throughout the day. And they are shaped by access to nutritious food, opportunities for physical activity, trusted local resources, and the connections that help people thrive. That's why advancing community health requires more than innovation. It’s about partnership and long-term, honest commitment to meeting communities where they are. Just recently, this commitment came to life in Trenton, NJ, where Bristol Myers Squibb joined the FIFA World Cup 2026™ New York New Jersey Host Committee, the U.S. Soccer Foundation, local leaders, and community organizations to host the BMS Kickoff for Community Health event, to dedicate a new community mini-soccer pitch to the city of Trenton, and connect families with health resources and fresh groceries. The pitch itself is important, but even more powerful is that it creates a space that brings people together, encourages active living, and strengthens the foundations of healthier communities. As healthcare leaders, we have a responsibility to think beyond the walls of hospitals, clinics, and laboratories because we know that lasting impact takes hold when we work alongside communities to address the conditions that influence everyday health. Jasmine Crowe-Houston shared thisToday is World Hunger Day, and I’ve found myself reflecting on the journey of the last 10 years building GoodrCo. . What started with a simple belief, that no one should go hungry while good food goes to waste, has grown into a mission to feed more people and do so with dignity. That’s why today felt especially meaningful. I was honored to join an incredible group of leaders across Maryland as we opened our first free Goodr Grocery Store in the state and our very first location inside a public library. Libraries have always been places of opportunity, learning, and community. Now, at the Fairmount Heights Branch Library, families will be able to access fresh groceries in a welcoming space designed around dignity and choice. A special thank you to Councilwoman Shayla Adams-Stafford for her leadership and vision in helping bring this project to life. Thank you to the leaders of Prince George’s County and Mayor Lillian Arline of Fairmount Heights for their commitment to investing in their community and creating innovative solutions to address food insecurity. Thank you as well to the Prince George’s County Memorial Library System and CEO Mark Winston for embracing this vision and helping us create something truly innovative. The fact that our first Maryland store is located inside a library makes this project even more special. And thank you to First Lady Dawn Moore for joining us and for her continued advocacy on behalf of Maryland families. Your presence made an already special day even more meaningful. This is our first fully dedicated Food as Medicine mobile grocery store, traveling exclusively to health clinics across the state to help families access healthier foods and improve health outcomes. The bus is stocked with: Fresh produce, Meats & seafoods, Low-sugar, low-sodium, and sugar-free grocery items. In a state facing some of the highest rates of hunger in the country, access to healthy food is healthcare. I’m incredibly excited about the impact this bus will make across Louisiana and grateful to Aetna for partnering with us on this important work. For families already managing chronic conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure, that gap has direct clinical consequences. Two days ago in New Orleans, Goodr and Aetna Better Health of Louisiana cut the ribbon on a mobile grocery market designed to address both problems at once. Aetna is investing $400,000 to bring Goodr's mobile market to Community Health Centers across nine Louisiana regions — New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Shreveport, Lake Charles, Lafayette, Monroe, Bogalusa, and Slidell. This isn't a standard food distribution. The participating CHCs enroll patients already in their care for chronic conditions. The food itself — fresh produce, milk, eggs, pantry staples — is selected with those health needs in mind. And at every stop, patients access nutrition education and cooking classes built around managing their specific conditions. The centers are tracking real outcomes: A1C levels and fasting blood sugar, before and after. The food goes where the care teams already are, to the patients they've already identified, through a supply chain built to reach the places traditional grocery hasn't. We're grateful to Aetna Better Health of Louisiana and Bridget Galatas for the investment and the vision, to AbsoluteCare New Orleans for hosting the launch, and to every Community Health Center across the state for making this work on the ground. It's also home to the Goodr Community Market at 381 Edgewood Avenue in Atlanta. We opened over a year ago because this neighborhood needed an alternative to corner stores and discount chains; somewhere they could reliably purchase fresh produce, meat, dairy, and pantry and household staples at prices that make sense. And if your family is going through a tough time, you can email us and schedule a visit to shop for free. Inside is our Little Loaf deli, where everything is made fresh daily with all-natural meats sliced in-house, and we drop a new signature sandwich every week. Kids eat for $2.50, seniors for $5, and most meals come in under $7. Beyond our lending library and patio and rooftop seating, our welcoming environment serves as a community gathering space, hosting family events, live music, and dedicated senior programming such as free breakfasts and bingo. Neighbors often stop by multiple times a day. Behind the register, there's a free pet food vending machine stocked by our friends at Atlanta Dog Mom that empties almost every day, but our favorite part of Community Market daily life is the love. Our Little Loaf Love tokens are available for purchase to pay it forward or give to someone of your choice. Each token is redeemable for one meal, no questions asked, and, at the end of each month, tokens left in the Gratitude Jar enable us to make and deliver fresh sandwiches to local non-profits in our network. “I don’t want people to be limited to the option of a fast-food meal deal. Jasmine Crowe-Houston liked thisJasmine Crowe-Houston liked thisThis past week, I helped my friend Matthew “Phew” Foster, founder of Phew’s Pies and a CRUxHaus Community Star within our CRUxNetwork, serve freshly made pizza to 200 kids at Mike WiLL Made-It’s "Make Wishes Matter" Back 2 School Drive. The event was produced by the amazing Shelly Andrews and her company, the ILL Group (I highly recommend their work), in collaboration with amazing partners like GoodrCo. There were games, food, a juice bar, giveaways and all the supplies needed to send the kids off to school with the resources to succeed. It was a great day of community and friendship. A few years ago, CRUxHaus helped Matthew partner with Gozney and become an official Gozney Ambassador. If you check out the Gozney Ambassador page, you’ll see Matthew right at the top! So, of course, there were five Gozney ovens fired up at the event as we made pizzas for the kids. This year Gozney is also returning to power the Pizza-Making Workshop at This Summer®, led by Matthew and Phew’s Pies, and we recently received some amazing Gozney Arc XL ovens, along with all the accessories needed to help people properly start their own pizza-making journeys. So, in true CRUxHaus and This Summer® fashion, I wanted to get hands-on and learn how to make pizza myself. Throughout the Back 2 School drive, while we served pizzas to the kids, Matthew was teaching me how to use the Gozney oven, prepare the dough, layer the toppings and bake a proper Phew’s Pies pizza. This is exactly what we want people to experience at This Summer®. The opportunity to discover a new interest, use great products firsthand and learn directly from people who are passionate about what they do.
