Jessica Burch shared thisI remember my first time flying over the Sierra Nevada in the Black Hawk, battling some of the most gnarly turbulence I’ve ever felt on the controls. That flight made me realize there’s so much more to learn about the weather than I ever imagined. Mountain flying teaches you to respect the sky, trust your training, and never stop learning. 🚁📚 I hope you take these tips to heart! When it comes to navigating the mountains, the more you know, the safer and more confident you’ll be. And honestly, it’s incredible the tools and technology we have at our fingertips to help us do it. 📲Jessica Burch shared thisMountain flying is one of aviation's most breathtaking experiences and one of its most demanding. This blog by meteorologist and Black Hawk pilot Jessica Burch breaks down how to use ForeFlight's terrain awareness, turbulence forecasting, and high-resolution maps to fly the mountains with confidence. 🏔️✈️ #ForeFlight #MountainFlying

Jessica Burch shared thisBehind every forecast is data 🌦️👩🏼💻 Behind that data are crews flying straight into the storm 🛩️ This week I had the honor of joining the NOAA Hurricane Hunters inside an atmospheric river, deploying dropsondes to improve real-time forecast models, and then sharing that story on CBS News. The coolest part? I use those same models everyday to forecast your weather here in the Bay Area. A full-circle moment. The SE Media team moved our headquarters to San Francisco almost three years ago now, and it’s been incredible to grow the company here while building a team that helps bring these stories to life. From filming with military and defense organizations around the world to sharing those experiences with millions of viewers on YouTube, it’s always meaningful to step back and talk about the mission behind what we do. Grateful to Jessica Burch and the CBS team for having me on and for highlighting the work our team is doing. 🎥 Sharing the segment here for anyone who wants to watch: https://lnkd.in/eZYChpEZ

It's not every day you get to meet 100 of the world's top creators AND Oprah Winfrey at the same time. The highlight for me was having the opportunity to be heard by YouTube execs and fellow creators about the platform's future and updates I think matter most. There's a reason YouTube has been the leading platform in long-form storytelling and has held that title for the last 20 years. The people running it actually listen. A special thanks to Mic Kovary and the entire YouTube team for putting together such a special experience. Grateful to be in the room.

Jessica Burch reacted on thisJessica Burch reacted on thisI’m humbled and honored to be stepping into the role of Head of Visa Direct, North America. My career, especially at Visa, hasn’t been a straight line. I’ve moved across non‑client facing roles, IC roles, worked in global and in region, sat in both product and merchant orgs, and had six managers in as many years. Each chapter has shaped how I think about leadership, decision‑making, and what it really takes to build and scale a business. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to learn from outstanding leaders along the way. I never thought I’d leave consulting, but Cecilia Frew took a chance on me and brought me into Visa. Without her belief, I wouldn’t have a career in payments. Casey Klyszeiko showed, and continues to shows, what the bar for great leadership can look like: level-headed and decisive under pressure, people-centric, and relentless about winning. Jack Funda taught me that sales starts at no, and that persistence and storytelling matter. Valli Ardalan showed me how to be firm, direct, and decisive without sacrificing the importance of human relationships. Ruben Salazar Genovez showed me to think big and that winning at scale means ruthless focus on the big bets that truly matter. And Yanilsa Gonzalez, my longest‑tenured leader and mentor, truly embodies what it mean to execute day in and day out. Her work ethic, integrity, and passion laid the bedrock for everything Visa Direct is in the region today. Most importantly, I learn every day from my core team, Jakub Petri, Steven Zeisel, Cara Hayward, Natalia Kazakevich Rials, and so many others, who continuously raise the bar and challenge me. Thank you to Chris Baker and Vira Platonova for the trust. I’m deeply grateful and committed to earning it every day. The opportunity ahead for Visa Direct in North America is immense. Money movement is becoming more real‑time, more global, and more embedded across consumers, businesses, governments, and platforms, and Visa Direct sits at the center of that transformation. We have a powerful, proven platform, unmatched reach, and a roadmap that continues to push the envelope of what is possible. As we look ahead, our clients and partners remain at the heart of everything we do, and delivering for them will be the foundation of our continued growth and success. I couldn’t be more energized about the opportunity and this team, and I’m confident we have everything we need to grow, scale, and win. #leadership #fintech #payments #moneymovement

(Details on that, as the cliché goes, coming soon!) Mixed emotions as we leave: we’ve made some great friends here, and I’ll certainly miss my wonderful work family. That said, we’re looking forward to being closer to family. Professionally, I’m excited about the chance to track thunderstorms again! Special thanks as always to my wife, for enduring the chaos of another move…and putting up with me in general. She’s the best.

Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines have achieved a very important milestone in their merger: a single air operator's certificate (AOC). The airline said that for the time being, some Hawaiian Airlines flights will continue carrying the HA designator. Once it integrates the two carriers' passenger service systems (PSS), it will fade away into the history books. Read more about the single AOC in the article linked in the comments below:

A federal government watchdog is sounding the alarm in a new report after cuts, “burnout, fatigue and low morale,” have caused the number of aviation meteorologists working with air traffic controllers to drop by 15%. As of June, the number of National Weather Service meteorologists assigned to FAA centers dropped to 69 active meteorologists, from a target of 81. The report points to the work environment, including an example of a meteorologist who had to reschedule medical procedures to cover for vacant positions. “Meteorologists in the (center weather service units) and at the command center are suffering from burnout, fatigue and low morale as they are working overtime to maintain operations and are avoiding taking leave,” the report said. The number has also fallen because of the federal government’s hiring freeze and by deferred resignation and voluntary early retirement or separation programs offered by the Trump administration. Aircraft maintenance professionals at Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines have elected AMFA as their collective bargaining representative following a representation election against the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM). 66% of the votes cast were in favor of AMFA. This vote is a clear mandate that Alaska and Hawaiian skilled workgroups want craft‑specific representation that puts our licenses, our skills, and our careers first. “We are proud to welcome Hawaiian Airlines technicians and related employees into the AMFA family to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our current members,” said AMFA National President Bret Oestreich. #ATCS Hiring #best and brightest 10.06.2025 BPIAA Counterpoint Op-Ed | The FAA Fairytale! September 22, 2011- FAA Independent Review Panel on the Selection, Assignment and Training of Air Traffic Control Specialists FINAL REPORT Air Traffic Selection and Training (AT-SAT) Battery and Selection Testing. I. Predictive Value - The Panel could not find any completed studies that determined if the AT-SAT actually predicted job performance success among those who took the exam, were accepted for Academy training, and who subsequently entered and completed on-the-job training in the field. Without having an understanding of this type of longitudinal data, the FAA cannot be sure that the AT-SAT is accomplishing its original goals of predictability. II. Bands Rather than Specific Scores Also unknown is whether AT-SAT scores relate to training success. “Candidates who score from 70 to 84.9 are ranked in a band termed ‘Qualified’ while those who score from 85 to 100 are ranked as ‘Well Qualified.’” In a 2009 study relating to training failures, the Department of Transportation’s Office of the Inspector General (DOT OIG) identified “a series of factors that could indicate trends and potential root causes of training failures. Those include: “… (3) hiring source and previous experience, (4) AT-SAT test scores and (5) Academy Performance Verification (PV) scores…there were not sufficient data on these factors to identify trends… aggregated data on these types of factors will become increasingly important.” To improve the predictability of the AT-SAT battery, it is important for the FAA to attempt to correlate controller training success and failure with specific scores on AT-SAT. III. AT-SAT and Test Robustness Several groups at various levels of field facilities question the robustness of the AT-SAT as a major factor in selecting candidates for air traffic control training. A recent DOT OIG study stated that “… overall AT-SAT scores have been higher than originally expected. Although the FAA scientists who designed the AT-SAT predicted that only 67.5 percent of all applicants would pass AT-SAT as originally designed, nearly 93 percent of all applicants currently achieve a passing score. AT-SAT has a high pass rate primarily because FAA reweighed elements from the original test.” Conclusion: The Panel has concluded that, in addition to AT-SAT test scores, other factors should also be given appropriate weight in the selection decision. So FAA considers “other factors,” yet FAA Academy’s continued use (abuse) and purpose of the 1976 ATCS Screen is not to “predict training success that can reliably predict full certification at the assigned FAA Field Facility,” but to “wash out or screen” select new-hires. This “best and brightest” hyperbole is nothing but a “fairytale,” - the only predictor of ATCS training success remains predicated on personal/social realities that favor and advantage a particular demographic while dismissing others! Our President Capt. Jason Ambrosi issued the following statement after the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) adopted its final investigative report into the in-flight separation of a mid-exit door plug on Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 at its board meeting today: "Today's NTSB final report on Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 provides another important reminder of why having two highly trained, well-rested, and experienced pilots on the flight deck is absolutely critical to aviation safety. The superior airmanship, extensive training, and quick thinking demonstrated by the captain and first officer saved the lives of all 171 passengers and six crew members aboard. While some seek to put profit ahead of safety and advocate for the removal of pilots from the flight deck, Flight 1282 should be a clear wake-up call that this would be a dangerous path to follow. “We appreciate the NTSB’s thorough investigation and comprehensive final report. The report underscores the vital importance of having two pilots on the flight deck who can work together, utilizing their extensive experience and all available resources, to safely manage emergencies that no computer system could anticipate or manage. We should be doing everything in our power to build on that success and reject any and all efforts to take our industry backward.”
