If you have money for presents for loved ones…maybe love someone else with a meal and some socks, or a toy for their child? We have more than enough resources in this country to cover everyone. A reminder every delivery leader eventually learns the hard way. The client wanted a yacht-level solution… But the budget was barely enough for a rowboat. And yet, the expectations? Closer to a luxury cruise 🚢 At one point, it wasn’t even about negotiation — it was about alignment. Because no matter how strong your team is, how optimized your process is, or how committed you are… 👉 You cannot deliver premium outcomes on minimal investment. That conversation wasn’t easy. But it was necessary. So I chose honesty over overpromising. I told them: “If we stretch beyond this point, we risk quality, timelines, and ultimately your trust.” Silence. Then came the real discussion — the one that should have happened from the start. 💡 Key takeaway: As professionals, our job is not just to deliver. It’s to educate, align, and sometimes push back. Because saying yes to everything is easy. But saying the right no builds long-term credibility. It’s been ten years of incredible views, and ten years of friends and family constantly asking, “Don’t you ever actually work?” (Trust me—the hustle behind the scenes is real!) Looking at this photo from my very first day as Cruise Director on the Columbia and Snake Rivers, I had no idea where this path would lead. Just eight weeks later, I was asked to step on board the Pearl Mist, which has been my home away from home for the majority of my time since. This ship has truly shaped who I am today. It has been the backdrop for endless laughter, some inevitable tears, and a crew that transitioned from colleagues to my best friends. It’s been an amazing journey so far, and I’m hopeful for many more miles and memories on the horizon.
