Katie Calhoun shared thisI’m still riding the momentum of last week’s C200 Impact Retreat at the remarkable new Women's Leadership Center at Williams Bay in Wisconsin. What a thrill to be surrounded by 58 unstoppable women in an incomparable setting, and to align around a shared mission: how to Open Doors, Break Down Barriers, and Shine a Light on opportunities for the next generations of female leaders. Endless gratitude to Ann M. Drake for bringing her vision for WLC to life, and to Karen Greenbaum and Donna F. Zarcone for the amazing programming. We left energized, focused and ready to work! So wonderful to spend time with Edie Fraser, Mary T. McDowell, Dawn Robertson, Ellen Stang, Bridget A. Ross, Karen Ross, Sharon Black, Cynthia Doe, and Jewelle Bickford, and to meet so many new friends. THANK YOU to everyone who played a part!

Katie Calhoun shared thisWhat an inspiring evening at the UN last week, celebrating the unifying power of the FIFA World Cup as a platform for social impact and brand growth! ResonateLab was proud to be on stage, supporting the incredible NO MORE, with FIFA Master Alumni Association and United Nations Youth Office. Bravo Carol Frazer Haynesworth, MBA, Pamela Zaballa and all the teams who brought the event to life! Now on to the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brasil 2027!

Katie Calhoun shared thisAI is making it easier to create more, move faster, and personalize at scale. But Cannes Lions raised a more important question: Are we using those capabilities to create connections that matter? In my new Forbes article for C200, I reflect on what I heard across sessions about brand strategy, consumer research, creators, Gen Alpha, and in-person experiences. Again and again, the strongest ideas started with human insight - not the technology itself. The opportunity ahead is bigger than adopting better tools. It's learning where AI can expand human capabilities, and where it's critical for leadership, judgment, and lived experience to guide the work. Katie Calhoun shared thisWhat a thrill to represent ResonateLab at Cannes Lions this year! I expected a whirlwind, and Cannes certainly delivered. It was incredible to meet with so many visionary leaders, reconnect with longtime friends, and experience firsthand the innovation shaping what's next. (And a surprise appearance from Oprah!) One theme surfaced again and again throughout the week: technology and AI are at their best when they strengthen human connection, amplify human stories, deepen human insight, scale human creativity, and unlock the human capacity to create meaningful change. The future isn't about automation replacing people—it's about collaboration empowering people. At ResonateLab, we're helping organizations build strategies for this evolving and exciting dynamic. Throughout the week, I also paid close attention to the "Moments that Resonate"—more on those in future posts. So grateful to spend time with Elissa Moses, Tarja Stephens, Mia Tapojärvi Dahlmer, Pamela Zaballa, Madeline McQueen, Jennifer Quigley-Jones, Madeline Di Nonno, and all the amazing people at herNEXTfrontier. And a special thank you to Paige McCrensky and Carol Frazer Haynesworth, MBA. I'm so proud to be on this journey with you. Stop shouting. Start resonating. #Canneslions2026 #Resonatelab #brandstrategy

Katie Calhoun shared thisEvery Juneteenth, I’m reminded that I’m grateful for Rodney Reynolds, Founder of American Legacy Network. I was lucky to meet Rodney early in my career. He started American Legacy as a magazine and platform for powerful, inspiring stories of African-American history and culture. And he had an ingenious approach to circulation - distributing through Black churches around the country. As I worked with Rodney, I learned exceptional, inspiring stories - like the early years of Cassius Clay shown below. But I also learned the importance of passion, commitment, humor and tenacity. A country’s priorities aren’t always constant, but authentic stories resonate through time. Thank you, Rodney! Happy Juneteenth!

Katie Calhoun shared thisCan't wait to be in Cannes with ResonateLab and Paige McCrensky next week (where I will NOT be wearing a black turtleneck)! We're excited for our panel discussion around women's sports and global impact. At ResonateLab, with Managing Partner Carol Frazer Haynesworth, MBA, we believe brands resonate most deeply when their strategies are grounded in human truths, when technology is used to amplify authentic voices - not replace them. Katie Calhoun shared thisI’m thrilled to introduce ResonateLab Consulting! The last couple of years have brought incredible growth for me, as I’ve built new networks, developed new skills, and learned new industries. All of it has reinforced the power of personal connection to drive business results, especially when that human potential determines the application of technologies – not the other way around. So I’ve decided to join forces two of the most inspiring and energizing humans I know – Paige McCrensky and Carol Frazer Haynesworth, MBA - to start a new marketing consultancy, created to help brands and organizations build meaningful connections rooted in truth, relevance, and resonance. At ResonateLab we believe that: - Lasting brand impact starts with authenticity and credible voices. - Successful strategies are built on real-time data, personal insights and deep understanding. - Responsible AI should be used to facilitate human connections – not replace them. - Listening is a superpower. - Collaboration and partnerships are flywheels, combining complementary strengths and perspectives for outsize results. We’re already bringing our vision to life in the nonprofit space, through work surrounding the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, with initiatives connected to the FIFA Women’s World Cup, and in partnerships designed to help organizations thrive in a rapidly evolving economy. The future belongs to brands that don’t just speak louder, they resonate deeper. Let’s connect. Let’s build. Let’s start resonating. https://lnkd.in/eVHTVkF8

Katie Calhoun shared thisThe most dreaded advice before Cannes Lions? ‘Just go and network.’ For leaders with clear goals and real budget accountability, that’s not a strategy—it’s a risk. Every conversation should be intentional. Every activation should drive impact. Every investment should deliver return. Cannes Lions is a growth moment—if you show up with a plan. ResonateLab helps brands turn presence into performance with focused strategy, curated engagement, and meaningful follow-through. Don’t just show up. Show up with purpose. Learn more about how and why ResonateLab has become the boutique strategic partner of choice for leading organizations. We understand that brand promise, human truth and responsible AI are the ultimate business solution. https://lnkd.in/gFeTXRVu

Katie Calhoun reacted on thisKatie Calhoun reacted on thisThere are pros and cons to everything in life. I was fortunate to learn this lesson early. As a competitive tennis player, you live an intensely focused, routined life. Anything not aligned with the goal of being the best simply doesn't make the schedule. Friends, especially in your teenage years, don't really understand that level of commitment. So you end up surrounded almost entirely by other players at the club who share the same aspirations. In hindsight, what a privilege that was, growing up among people who refused to settle for average. (Although, funnily enough, that's exactly how I often saw myself. Average at best. 😄) No birthday celebrations, because you were in the middle of a tournament. Early to bed on Christmas, because you were competing the next morning. Those were trade-offs and sacrifices I made without a second thought. It wasn't until decades later that I realized how unusual that upbringing was. And here's what I've come to understand: that same wiring never left me. In business, I still gravitate toward people who don't want to settle. I still measure myself honestly, sometimes too honestly. And I still believe the trade-offs worth making are the ones that move you closer to your best. The court taught me that excellence isn't comfortable. It's a series of small sacrifices most people aren't willing to make. Turns out, that lesson translates to just about everything. What's a "sacrifice" from your early years that shaped how you work today?

The best place to hold an AI strategy session? This summer, for us, it was above the Arctic Circle in Lapland, where I had an amazing opportunity to spend time with Taru Salo, one of Finland’s leading female voices in AI and the future of work. I deeply admire her thinking, and I always enjoy the moments when we can share notes and ideas about the future we are heading into. No formal agenda. No slide decks and no conference rooms. Just beautiful trails through the wilderness of Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park and plenty of time to talk. We talked about the future of leadership and Nordic values, from human-agent orchestration to what it means that we are the last generation to manage only humans, and how that will reshape our organizations in ways we may not yet fully understand. We also explored how we can bring more incredible leaders together through future gatherings and conversations. And then we kept walking. Coffee breaks and lunches turned into campfires out in nature. Two days later, we had pages of notes and so many ideas. We also had something that is much harder to find in everyday work: time outside, away from screens, with space to think and simply enjoy the beautiful nature around us. 🌿 Sometimes the best conversations really can happen in the wilderness with an incredible thinking partner. Thank you, Taru, for two unforgettable days. ❤️ Sometimes the best strategy session is twenty kilometers long. I have a feeling some of the ideas that started on those trails will travel well beyond Lapland. More to come! #AILeadership #WomenInAI #NordicLeadership #Lapland #Finland #FutureOfWork #CareersInMotion

Katie Calhoun reacted on thisKatie Calhoun reacted on thisGet ready, world! Last week, C200 held a special impact retreat at the Women’s Leadership Center in what was our inaugural convening. The group came away with bold plans for initiatives designed to open doors and break down barriers for women leaders in business today and for young women preparing to start their careers. For the Center, it was exhilarating to watch these very accomplished women use our spaces for exactly the purposes and in exactly the ways we designed them—to convene, collaborate, build connections, and generate fresh approaches to complex problems. Big thank you to Karen Greenbaum, Donna F. Zarcone Zarcone and Ann M. Drake Drake for planning and hosting this event. And gratitude to our Spotlight presenters who generously shared their insights, talent, and wisdom with the retreat: Edie Fraser, Sonja Perkins, Tena Clark, Jane Edison Stevenson, and Kanmani Chockalingam.

My book, ‘Constitutional Democracy in the Algorithmic Age’ reveals how code is quietly rewriting our rights, and provides the blueprint for building digital guardrails before automated power makes self-governance obsolete. Pitch okay?

"Why the C-suite needs a rethink – and how to do it" by Kearney's Abby Klanecky Chief Marketing Officer and Simon Kent of the Board and Senior Partner. They recommend staying curious about questions like: To what extent do we operate in functional silos? Are all functional leaders speaking the language of the customer? Do we all feel responsible for the customer? Where are the gaps between the departments? What are the market dynamics that are fundamentally changing our business performance and trajectory? What skills do we need to lead future generations? Future-ready leaders think in different time horizons, look at the business more broadly, work collaboratively, examine the boundaries and lead with curiosity.

AN ADVERTISING INDUSTRY LEGEND JOINS THE BOARD AT CONVERGE "The opportunity can prove positive -- not just for Converge, but the entire industry -- what it means when “you actually take responsibility for your client’s business,” said Matt Seiler. He notes that #professional #services organizations operate at about #70% #billable operation, while 85% of professional services firms still rely primarily on #hourly #billing models through traditional time-based compensation, and only between 15% and 20% have successfully transitioned to outcome-based pricing, despite proven higher margins. Many #advertising and #creative #agencies are unable to fully leverage the potential of AI because they are trapped in traditional compensation models. Instead of getting paid for results they deliver, agencies often charge clients based on the time and resources spent on a project, such as hourly billing or retainers. It’s also tied to how many people it takes to run the business and how much money they can be convinced to spend. “Think about the root of the word agency, it’s 'agent,' and what it means to be an agent working on behalf of the client,” Seiler says. “As most holding companies move to principal media buying they lose track of for whom they work.” - MediaPost 9/10/2025
