And so great to know that children in need will benefit from this generous gesture shared by the Client.Kelly Belt liked thisWhen plans changed, the purpose didn’t! Recently, a group on property hosted a team-building event centered around building bikes to donate—putting together an incredible 100 bikes for kids, from training wheels to big kid rides. While the original organization was unable to accept them, the group remained committed to finding a way to give back. The event manager for the program connected with our Culture Council to explore opportunities to donate to another local organization, and together we were able to make something meaningful happen. We split the bikes—50 were donated to a local women’s shelter we’ve supported in the past, and the remaining 50 are being distributed to our team members through HR. The shelter shared that this is the first time they’ve ever received a bike donation like this, and they’re incredibly excited to provide them to the children they serve. Moments like these are a powerful reminder that what we do in and outside these walls truly matters. It’s about creating impact, and supporting our community. At the recent Bisnow Hospitality Summit, our CEO Richard Stockton joined industry leaders to unpack the state of the hotel market in Dallas-Fort Worth and beyond. The conversation ranged from the proliferation of hotel brands to the complex financing landscape, but one theme stood out: Opportunity. Despite some concerns about oversupply in downtown Dallas, the panel identified massive potential in the surrounding areas, specifically Arlington, Frisco, and Plano, where generational developments are taking shape. Richard wrapped up the session with an optimistic look at Braemar's position in the market: "What we are very excited about is the K-shaped economy, which is very promising for us in the luxury space, and... the decrease in interest rates which will be beneficial for the entire industry." The year 2026 ahead looks promising as we discuss budgets, staffing, new projects and achievable goals. After several personal and group leadership trainings with my team what lessons have I learned in years 2023/24 and 2025 at Marriott Tulsa Hotel Southern Hills … When leaders are kind, they risk being taken advantage of. The disappointment comes when people exploit that kindness, and it feels like a betrayal 😔. But here's the thing: kindness isn't the problem; the response to it is. Hope lies in recognizing that people's actions often reflect their own struggles, not the leader's weakness. Recovering those situations involves: - Setting clear boundaries while maintaining empathy - Re-evaluating expectations and communication - Focusing more on those who reciprocate trust, integrity & respect - the 95%. Kind leaders aren't naive; they're resilient. They adapt, learn, & keep leading with heart 💖. My outlook has evolved and as a result I am a different leader than I was few years back .. Here's a reflection on these themes in my hospitality leadership: *Trust vs. Mistrust:* In hospitality, trust is the foundation of exceptional service. When we trust our team, we empower them to take ownership & delight guests. Mistrust, on the other hand, breeds anxiety & stuffles creativity. Leaders who trust their people create a culture of autonomy and innovation 💡. Be aware you will be tested and people will take advantage of you & your vulnerability! *Pulling Up vs. Pushing:* Pulling people up means lifting them to new heights, coaching them to achieve more than they thought possible. Pushing, often leads to burnout and resentment. In hospitality, we thrive when we pull each other up, fostering growth & teamwork 🤝. I believe in pulling with all my good intent. *Leading with Integrity vs. Needing to be Managed:* Leaders with integrity inspire loyalty and trust. They lead by example, are transparent and authentic. Those who need to be managed often lack direction or motivation. In my years in hospitality, integrity-driven leaders create a culture of accountability and respect 🌟. They are more observant and lead with consistency and consensus building. *Micromanaging vs. Accountability:* Micromanaging suffocates the creativity & autonomy. Accountability, on the other hand, sets clear expectations & empowers teams to deliver. In hospitality, accountability builds trust & drives excellence, while micromanaging kills morale 🚫. We often misunderstand these two terms but accountability with conviction is most relevant and very important to administer. Tolerance needs to be measured. I promise my executive team, & our teammates that I will continue to lead with sincerity, humility, integrity, intelligence, fairness & above all in an inclusive way like always and deliver results to our ownership 🙏. Great discussion at last week’s Hotel & Lodging Association of Greater Houston meeting. Thank you Michael Dominguez, FASAE, CHSE for sharing valuable insights and perspective with the group. One theme that stood out: Demand isn’t down. It’s just uneven. Key takeaways: 📅 Increased compression around key dates 📉 Softer periods in between That may sound manageable, but it’s a different story operationally. ⚖�� Teams are either stretched thin during peak times or focused on controlling costs during slower periods, with very little consistency. 💲 I’m also hearing more operators adjust pricing in real time as expected demand hasn’t materialized as quickly as anticipated.
