Select your papers, pick a citation style, copy a fully formatted bibliography. No bouncing between tools or manually formatting references. We also knocked out four more researcher requests: → Zotero group collection imports → DOI/RIS/BibTeX import → Removed the 5,000-paper cap for large libraries → LaTeX export straight to Overleaf. These might sound like all small things individually. But if you've ever spent an hour formatting citations at 11pm before a deadline, you know how much this stuff matters. Researchers should be spending their time on the work that actually moves knowledge forward, not fighting tooling. 👀 HawkTalk- "Voices of Innovation" Current US Programmatic Trends- via DataBeat May 2025 saw overall CPMs rise 4% month-over-month, with display CPMs up 1.7% and video CPMs up 9.5%. Year-over-year, CPMs declined 24.8%, driven by a 31.9% drop in display while video remained flat (+0.9%). The dip reflects post-election normalization in political ad spend and continued macroeconomic uncertainty. Chinese advertisers, once major drivers of programmatic growth, showed reduced activity amid shifting policies and market conditions. 💥 PUBLISHERS must read->> Ad refresh strategies were in focus this month. First impressions commanded the highest CPMs ($2.81) and CTRs (0.41%), but each subsequent refresh delivered diminishing returns. While viewability improved from 78% to 96% across 20 refreshes, CPMs dropped 70% and CTRs flattened. Advertisers significantly discount repeated exposures, signaling reduced user attention and lower engagement. 💰 To adapt, publishers should limit excessive refreshes, optimize floors dynamically, and diversify demand sources. Leveraging header bidding and testing direct deals or high-impact formats will be key to offsetting market softness and maintaining monetization. Jumping on another redeye after several days in SV—and a clear signal that the AI conversation inside marketing is maturing fast. Project Athena held its Silicon Valley Salon at SAP headquarters in San Ramon. Conceived by Rishad Tobaccowala and Drew Ianni, the program brings together CEOs, CMOs, and senior operating leaders for candid, senior-level conversations about where marketing, technology, and leadership are headed. As part of the gathering, I led a full-audience session entitled “Questions Are Now the Market”, followed by a more hands-on working session focused on BrandRank.AI—our measurement approach and real-world use cases. Because Chatham House Rules apply, I won’t comment on the discussion from others. But the exchange was practical, grounded, and pointed. Across both sessions, the goal was to make the Answer Economy tangible. I brought live BrandRank.AI dashboards into the room to show how AI answer engines are already evaluating brands: • Walmart: we looked at how different LLMs interpret Walmart’s brand promise—and how uneven those interpretations can be. Some models emphasize scale and value. Others—Anthropic in particular—apply a meaningfully higher bar. • GLP-1 drugs: One of the more surprising patterns was how often GLP-1 medications surface well beyond medical queries. These drugs are increasingly appearing across a broader footprint of AI answers—including lifestyle topics like sleep. Once authority is established, AI systems reuse it widely. The most persistent question in the room wasn’t technical. It was organizational. If answers are now the market, who owns this? Is this the domain of the search, AEO, or performance marketing centric ecommerce team? Or is it fundamentally a CMO / C-suite responsibility? The answer felt clear. Content optimization matters. Technical readiness matters. But answer share rests on assets you can’t tune or manipulate overnight: • Brand trust • Product performance • Credentials and substantiation • Earned media These live at the core of the enterprise—not inside a channel. One final note: it was a privilege to close the day with Larry Brilliant, who briefly reflected on lessons from his work helping eradicate smallpox with the WHO in the 1970s—a reminder that when systems operate at scale, responsibility matters as much as innovation.
