Liz M. Lopez shared thisHow do you manage a change in CEO? Every year, I coach between 12 to 18 C-Suite Executives as their full-time Executive Coach and Strategic Advisor. Many of my clients are CIOs, CFOs, CMOs, CSOs, CISOs, CROs...all the Chiefs. And one of the biggest challenges they have to navigate is a new boss. Especially if the Board hires a new CEO without allowing CEO candidates to meet their C-Suite team (a practice I find shocking, but that is a separate post). I have some clients that have navigated 3+ new CEOs in a 5-year span. That means managing concerns about job security, project derailment, organizational culture, budget realignments, RIFs, and more. Even when it's a welcome change, it still requires added energy - learning to manage a new boss, their communication style, their vision, and their priorities, and supporting the enormous pressure on them to deliver in a highly visible, new role. While the situation is common, guiding each client through onboarding a new CEO requires a unique approach. Organizational structure, culture, SLT dynamics, client personalities & goals, and the economic landscape all factor into the specific strategy I develop and navigate with my client. When you reach a certain level of leadership...isolation becomes a factor. There are things you cannot discuss with your team, peers, or your boss. Friends and family can only absorb so much before they burn out on your work talk (I need to make a post about the thank-you messages I get from spouses!). Having a coach on your side, seeing things objectively, and bringing 15+ years of experience into your world is a game-changer. Liz M. Lopez shared thisEvery time I cook bacon, my smoke alarm goes off. There is no fire. The house is safe. The bacon is simply doing what bacon does. I have to step away, grab a pole we keep nearby for this purpose, and click off the fire alarm. It's annoying, yet I still appreciate the alarm. Its job is to alert me when something might be dangerous. I don't disable it simply because it occasionally overreacts. Fear works much the same way. Fear sounds an alarm because some part of you is trying to provide protection. The alarm deserves your attention, but it does not automatically deserve control of the situation. Pause and investigate. What is the actual risk? How likely is it? What would happen if the outcome did not go as planned? Can you prepare, reduce the risk, test the idea on a smaller scale, or create a recovery plan? Sometimes the alarm identifies something that genuinely requires thoughtful preparation. Sometimes the risk is manageable. And sometimes, everything is fine, and it's just bacon. Fear may get loud, but you can give yourself permission to choose your action (and eat the bacon if that is your thing). ~Coach Liz #Fearbusting #RiskManagement #Courage

Liz M. Lopez shared thisFear loves isolation. It tells you to keep the doubt to yourself. It convinces you that everyone else is confident, prepared, and moving forward without hesitation. Fear loves to convince you that it's just you. You are less; you are not as smart; you don't have what it takes. Fear lies. And when you isolate, you are left alone with a story that grows louder because no one is there to challenge it. You think you are safe, but really you are cut off from the air and light that your dream needs. Isolation is a dream killer. The moment we bring fear into a supportive space, things begin to shift. We hear another person say, “I have felt that too.” Someone reminds us of what we have already accomplished. Another person shares how they moved through a similar challenge. Suddenly, the fear does not feel quite so powerful. This is why I value coaching, community, honest conversations, and dedicated spaces where people can examine what is holding them back. Courage multiplies when we see other people choosing it. I love creating these safe spaces! Spaces where we can systematically dismantle fears or commit to doing it scared!
