Ngoc Flynn shared thisAnother successful year at the International Business Ethics and Sustainability Case Competition hosted by LMU. Over 60 teams from around the world came together to take on critical challenges we are facing today, from AI bias to poverty, food insecurity, deforestation, and environmental degradation. What stood out is the clear recognition that business decisions now sit at the intersection of ethics, sustainability, and long-term financial performance, and that these issues are deeply intertwined as teams work across legal, financial, and ethical dimensions to answer not just what should be done, but who is responsible. I learn so much from these students every year and continue to be inspired by the rigor and conviction they bring to these problems. Thankful to Jeff Thies for the opportunity to play a small part. I always look forward to the next. Congratulations to the 2026 winners! https://lnkd.in/gj47iV3e IBES LMU Loyola Marymount University

Ngoc Flynn shared thisAnd that’s a wrap on my son’s first snowboarding season. He closed it out with a gondola ride to the very top of the mountain, riding down on his 80cm Burton board with tandem help from his dad. Watching a 2 year old take all of that in and meet it with pure curiosity and bravery is something else. I’m so impressed by this tiny human. Grateful his dad, Kyle Flynn is skilled and patient enough to make moments like this possible. When I start to have doubts on how to tackle monumental goals, I’m going to remember how he did it.

Ngoc Flynn shared thisI’m deeply saddened by the loss of Dr. Bernard LaFayette, Jr. I’m grateful for the opportunity to share a warm meal with him and wife in Selma, AL and listen to his reflections and wisdom. His life and presence were a powerful reminder of courage, humility, and service.Ngoc Flynn shared thisIt is with deep sorrow and boundless gratitude that American Baptist College mourns the passing of our beloved alumnus, former President, and towering giant of justice — Dr. Bernard LaFayette, Jr. (1940–2026). Dr. LaFayette walked these very grounds on "The Holy Hill" as a young man, and it was here that the seeds of a movement were planted. A co-founder of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), a Freedom Rider, the quiet architect of the Selma Voting Rights Movement, and a tireless global prophet of nonviolence — his life was the living embodiment of our mission: to educate, serve, and pursue justice in the world. He rode buses through a violent South. He registered voters in the face of danger. He marched alongside Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He later returned to lead this institution as our President — and never stopped teaching the world that change is possible through love, courage, and the power of nonviolence. In his own words: "The value of life lies not in longevity, but in what people do to give it significance." Dr. LaFayette gave his life immeasurable significance — and in doing so, he gave all of us a blueprint for how to live. We hold his family, his legacy, and his light close to our hearts. The flame he lit on this Hill will never go out. Rest in power, Dr. LaFayette. You changed the world — and you changed us.

Ngoc Flynn shared thisThe Year of the Fire Horse is about courage, momentum, and bold forward energy. 🔥🐎 This season, I’m seeing that spirit personally in teaching my toddler, who turns two this March, to snowboard. It starts small. Love the gear. Appreciate mother nature. Embrace the cold. Trust when the slope feels big. Celebrate the first glide. Some days are smooth. Some aren’t. Progress isn’t linear, but bravery compounds. That same mindset guides how I’m approaching a year of meaningful operational change — strengthening foundations, raising the performance bar, and building teams and systems that can scale with confidence and trust. Real momentum isn’t about speed. It’s about discipline, resilience, and steady forward movement. Here’s to building brave humans and brave teams ready for what’s ahead. 🔥🐎 #Leadership #GrowthMindset #FireHorseYear #PeopleAndPerformance

If you've been considering getting your PMP, here is your sign. ✨ For most of my career, my world was technical accounting and finance, and I didn't know what was beyond that. Looking back now, I was already doing project work in "non corporate world" settings and enjoying it. Planning events, connecting moving pieces, making things run smoother behind the scenes. It just didn't have an official title. Years ago, when I had joined Amazon Web Services (AWS), I was stretched beyond my accounting and finance skills. The role required self defined projects. Entering the "corporate project world" opened my eyes to a whole different career trajectory. I was looking at end to end programs, seeing how every part of a business connects and becoming part of decisions that actually moved things forward. I had incredible leadership who I will forever be grateful to (some mentions below) who supported me in building my skillset, guided me with role opportunities and encouraged me to make it official. So I went and got my PMP. (Years back now) 💰 I have a $100 off promo code for the PMP prep course through Project Management Academy. The same course that helped me pass on my first try with "Above Target" in every Domain and get my PMP through Project Management Institute. DM me and I'll send it your way. Does an Internal Auditor Need to Be Thick-Skinned? Short answer: Yes. Long answer: Yes—and strategically so. Internal audit isn’t for the faint of heart. You’re not just checking boxes. You may be questioning the CFO’s assumptions. You’re reviewing the COO’s controls. You’re surfacing issues no one wanted brought to light. That doesn’t make you popular. It makes you essential. But being thick-skinned doesn’t mean being cold, rigid, or combative. It means: ✔️ Not flinching when your findings challenge the status quo ✔️ Staying calm when your conclusions are deflected or downplayed ✔️ Standing firm on audit standards and truth—without arrogance ✔️ Knowing when to escalate and when to educate ✔️ Being respected not just for what you report, but how you engage Some days, the hardest part isn’t the audit. It’s the personalities. The politics. The pressure. And still showing up with clarity, balance, and resolve. 📌 Thick skin isn’t a shield. It’s a skill. How thick does it need to be? Just enough to speak the truth—and still be trusted to come back.

Is the PCAOB more active or less active under the current administration? It probably doesn't take a rocket scientist to answer this, but let's look at the facts. • The number of accounting and auditing enforcement actions initiated in 2025 fell 68% to 10 from 31 in 2024. • Meanwhile, enforcement actions finalized by the PCAOB fell 27% to 37 last year from 51. • In 2025, the total value of the SEC’s monetary settlements plummeted from $907 million in 2024 to $31 million, with nearly all (98%) being imposed during the then outgoing Chair Gary Gensler’s final weeks in office. • Monetary penalties imposed by the PCAOB fell 50% year-over-year to $17.6 million. • Enforcements typically decline during periods of administrative transitions, • The SEC’s accounting and auditing actions touched a nine-year low and were “significantly lower than in the first years of the prior two SEC chairs. #cpa #publicaccounting #accountingandaccountants #cfo **Information per reports by Cornerstone Research

Most tax professionals in public accounting don’t talk openly about leaving. At least not at the office. The conversations happen with recruiters, with friends, with spouses. A lot of the people I talk to say it feels like disloyalty. Their firm invested in training them. There’s a real relationship there. So they don’t bring it up — they just quietly start taking calls. I get it. But here’s what I’ve seen from the other side of the table, having recruited corporate tax professionals at a Fortune 500 company: the people who make the best corporate hires are almost always coming from public accounting. They bring technical depth, client management skills, and a work capacity that corporate-only professionals rarely match. Going corporate isn’t quitting. It’s a career stage. And for a lot of tax professionals, it’s the stage where the hours finally match the comp — and you get to see the impact of your work instead of moving to the next engagement. If you’re mid-career in public accounting and you’ve been wondering what’s on the other side — you’re not the only one. And it’s worth looking at the actual numbers before you decide either way. #AccountingCareers #CPA

🚨 The AICPA just made moves that could reshape how you approach tax strategy in 2026. Major announcements dropped this month—and most accounting professionals are sleeping on them. Here's what changed: ✅ Accounting is now officially recognized as a STEM discipline. This isn't just a label—it opens doors for education funding, talent recruitment, and professional positioning. ✅ New attestation standards are coming to address sustainability and emerging assurance areas. If you're advising clients on ESG or emerging risks, this matters. ✅ The AICPA is pushing back on Department of Education regulations that would exclude accounting programs from professional degree designation. Translation: They're fighting to protect the credibility and value of accounting education. ✅ Tax simplification recommendations for controlled foreign corporations are on the table. If you work with international clients or multi-entity structures, stay tuned. Why this matters: These aren't just bureaucratic updates. They signal where the profession is heading—toward broader recognition, higher standards, and more complex advisory opportunities. The professionals who understand these shifts early will position themselves as trusted advisors, not just tax preparers. The full AICPA roundup has more details on guidance requests and advocacy efforts: https://lnkd.in/eXYJsTuR Which of these AICPA announcements impacts your practice the most?

🇺🇸 US Accounting, Payroll & Taxation – What I’ve Learned Over the years working in US accounting and staffing, one thing I’ve realized is this: Accounting, Payroll, and Taxation are not separate functions… they are tightly connected. If one goes wrong, everything else gets impacted. For example — If timesheets are not accurate, billing goes wrong. If billing is wrong, payroll gets affected. If payroll is off, tax filings become a risk. And eventually, it hits cash flow and client trust. In day-to-day work, US Accounting is not just about closing books — it depends a lot on how clean your payroll and billing inputs are. Payroll, on the other hand, looks simple but has its own challenges — multi-state taxes, W2/1099 handling, benefits, compliance… even a small mistake can create bigger issues later. And taxation… that’s where everything finally reflects. Any gap in accounting or payroll shows up here. What really helps in managing all this smoothly: • Validating data before payroll processing • Keeping billing, payroll, and accounting in sync • Regular reconciliations • Staying proactive on compliance (not waiting for issues) In my experience, it’s less about doing tasks and more about connecting the dots properly. Just sharing a practical perspective — might be useful for anyone working in US staffing or finance operations. #USAccounting #USPayroll #USTaxation #Finance #USStaffing #Compliance

“How do I leverage my public accounting foundation to land a financial analyst role?” I get asked this question several times every week. The truth? This transition was definitely easier in 2021–2023 when the market was red-hot… but it still happens all the time when candidates position themselves the right way. Here are a few tips I share with candidates: 1. Target hiring managers who made the same jump. If they started in public accounting and moved into FP&A or corporate finance themselves, they’re far more likely to understand—and value—the skillset you bring. They know exactly what strengths you already have and what skills you’ll need to develop—so they’re generally more willing to train and invest in you. 2. Keep an open mind about leveling. If you’re stepping out of an audit staff role, it often makes the most sense to look at financial analyst opportunities as the next step. The title may feel like a lateral move, but can help get you on the right track and open future doors. 3. Highlight your most transferable skills. Public accounting builds an incredibly marketable foundation: advanced Excel skills, sharp attention to detail, strong analytical thinking, excellent communication skills, and the natural curiosity to dig into the “why” behind the numbers. These are core traits of top FP&A talent—don’t undersell them. 4. And finally… call me. I have a brand new, hybrid Financial Analyst opportunity in the Merrimack Valley with a company that loves hiring out of public accounting and is ready to invest in someone with your foundation. Fantastic growth path, great team, and real development.

Hiring a Tax Consultant? Don’t Just Look at the Résumé When tax teams bring in consultants, it’s often under pressure—tight deadlines, complex filings, or staff bandwidth stretched thin. But here’s the truth: the most successful engagements aren’t just about technical expertise. Here’s what great (experienced) tax consultants bring to the table—beyond the bullet points on their resume: 🔍 Context Awareness – They are accustomed to quickly learning new systems, team dynamic, and project goals. 🧠 Critical Thinking – They don't just complete a task—they understand how it fits into your overall strategy. They can offer suggestions/solutions your team may never have considered. 💡 Resourcefulness – When things get unclear (and they often do), they find answers without handholding. 🤝 Team Mentality – They show up as partners, not placeholders. The right consultant doesn’t just "fill a gap"—they add real value. If you’ve worked with a consultant who went above and beyond, I’d love to hear what stood out most to you. #TaxLeadership #ConsultingSuccess #TaxConsultants #InterimSupport #TaxHiring #FinanceLeadership #AccountingStrategy #RecruitmentInsights

📚 AICPA Pushes for Accounting to Be Recognized as a Professional Degree The AICPA and state CPA societies are urging the U.S. Department of Education to formally classify accounting programs as professional degree programs, warning that excluding them could harm students and the future pipeline of accountants. AICPA President & CEO Mark Koziel, CPA, CGMA, emphasized the importance of this designation: “Recognizing accounting programs as professional degree programs is common sense.” The classification plays a critical role in education loan eligibility, which directly impacts students pursuing accounting degrees. With demand for accountants projected to grow 5% through 2034 — outpacing the general job growth rate of 3% — industry leaders say it’s essential to maintain strong support for accounting education and talent development. #AICPA #Accounting #CPA #EducationPolicy #AccountingEducation #HigherEd #ProfessionalDegrees #TalentPipeline #FutureOfAccounting #FinanceProfession https://lnkd.in/dFucfk_j
