It’s not labor. It’s not food cost. 👉 It’s the lease. At International Franchise Association and Franchise Update Media, I had the opportunity to moderate a panel on Unlocking Hidden Profit in Your Lease Negotiations with an incredible group of operators: • Tony Sawyer • Raj Whadwa One theme was clear (and I see this every day at Amplify Franchise Financing): 💡 The best operators don’t just grow revenue — they engineer margin. A few truths: • Your lease is a financial instrument • Occupancy cost is often #2 after labor • Most operators never renegotiate strategically Meanwhile, small wins like: ✔ CAM caps ✔ Rent abatements ✔ TI dollars ✔ Exit flexibility = hundreds of thousands (or millions) in portfolio value The operators who scale differently don’t accept lease terms… They design them. 🚨 Anheuser-Busch Announces It Will Close Two Breweries and Sell Another Anheuser-Busch InBev (ABI) will close two of its breweries and sell another, Brewbound reported today. ABI is selling its Newark, New Jersey location to property developer Goodman Group and will end operations at its Merrimack, New Hampshire and Fairfield, California facilities next year. The shutterings will lower the beverage conglomerate’s brewery count to nine. ABI cited updates to production at other facilities as the reason for the consolidation.
