These first couple of weeks have reinforced that I made the right decision. I've already been impressed by the talent, collaboration, and passion of the team, and I'm grateful for how welcoming everyone has been. What excites me most about this opportunity is the chance to partner with healthcare organizations as they leverage AI to reduce administrative burden, improve operational outcomes, and ultimately improve patient care by giving clinicians more time to focus on what matters most — their patients. It's incredibly rewarding to be part of a team building technology that makes a meaningful difference for both providers and patients. It’s not just jobs or technical skills, but traces of human effort online. As design students, we’re entering creative industries at a moment where media can now appear instantly: generated anonymously, detached from process, authorship, or visible labor. And I think that’s part of why so many people are suddenly nostalgic for “bad” design again. Today, the imperfections of old internet media feel almost touching because they were evidence of a human’s touch. Someone opened Photoshop voluntarily and made that terrible meme. Someone stayed up until 3AM keyframing a sloppy edit. Someone cared enough to make something badly. I’d be behind if I wasn’t using AI in my workflows. They help me learn and work faster. But I also think we’re starting to realize how emotionally valuable friction, effort, and visible humanity actually are. Why does generative AI feel threatening to so many workers? A recent Harvard Business Review article, “Why Gen AI Feels So Threatening to Workers,” by Erik Hermann, Stefano Puntoni, and Carey Morewedge, offers a useful lens. Their research suggests that the anxiety around AI isn’t only about job loss. It’s about three fundamental psychological needs at work: -Competence — feeling capable and effective -Autonomy — feeling in control of how work gets done -Relatedness — feeling connected to colleagues and teams When AI strengthens those needs, people tend to embrace it as a copilot. When it undermines them, resistance follows. For leaders, this reframes the challenge. AI adoption isn’t just a technology rollout. It’s a change management and organizational design problem. Tools alone won’t drive adoption. Workflows, training, and transparency matter just as much. The article introduces the AWARE framework as a guide: acknowledge the psychological impact, watch for resistance signals, align support and training, redesign roles for human-AI collaboration, and empower employees to shape how AI is used. In other words, successful AI adoption depends as much on how people experience the change as on the technology itself.
