Spencer Tall shared thisGreat post Charlie!Spencer Tall shared thisI read the 2026 HIPAA NPRM expecting a policy refresh. It reads like a forensic document. Every mandated control maps almost one-to-one to a 2024 breach failure mode. MFA is the Change Healthcare answer. Network segmentation is the Ascension answer. Asset inventory is the “we didn’t know that medical device was on the internet” answer. OCR isn’t asking hospitals to imagine new risk. They’re writing prescriptions against specific autopsies. A few things every healthcare CISO should know before the final rule drops: 1. “Addressable” is gone. Roughly 40 controls are moving to required or enhanced. 2. The compliance window is 240 days from final rule publication. For a change this size, that’s aggressive. 3. Segmentation isn’t optional anymore. It’s named explicitly, with enforcement expectations tied to it. Main Line Health is the proof point I keep coming back to. They cut MTTR on a segmentation-relevant incident from 4 to 6 hours down to 10 minutes. Not through a bigger SOC. Through identity-based policy that already knew what every device was allowed to talk to. I put the full breakdown on the blog, plus a one-page CISO briefing and a two-slide deck you can drop straight into a board readout. If you’re the person who’s going to own this program, start there. Spencer Tall reposted thisSpencer Tall reposted thisIt’s awesome that the world gets to finally see Fundamental coming out of stealth! I first met Jeremy Fraenkel in August of 2024 and knew after our first walk that he was the type of person you want to partner with. Beyond being genuinely a good person at his core, he communicated a clear vision for the company with precision. Super pumped to be a seed investor and doubling down on the Series A. The team and he have executed the vision, which has led to this Series A and an amazing partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS). Traditional ML algorithms are slow and inaccurate, and LLMs struggle with tabular data. The team cooked up NEXUS, a foundation model built from the ground up to reveal the hidden language of tables, and give enterprises the Power to Predict.

In part 2 Paul is going over how extensions are not just scripts running on top of a page. They are small systems living alongside the browser, each with a specific role and level of access. Spencer Tall reposted thisSpencer Tall reposted thisThis piece by Lucidworks CTO Guy Sperry on AI merchandising struck a chord with the e-commerce community and became one of our most-shared blogs of the year. Here's why: The core message remains timely as we enter the age of #AgenticAI: AI serves commerce best when it amplifies human expertise rather than replacing it. While the market chases fully automated solutions, successful retailers understand that merchandising requires the thoughtful direction a conductor brings to an orchestra. #CommerceStudio exemplifies this approach by providing merchandisers with comprehensive visibility and precise control, integrating sophisticated AI capabilities while keeping human expertise central to strategic decisions. The best technology enhances professional capability without obscuring the decision-making process. It provides better instruments for skilled professionals rather than attempting to eliminate professional judgment. Spencer Tall liked thisSpencer Tall liked thisEvery CISO is walking the same tightrope. Push too hard on security controls and productivity takes a hit. Users get frustrated, workarounds multiply, and the help desk gets buried in trouble tickets. Pull back to protect the experience and the gaps start to show. That tradeoff has been treated as unavoidable for years. The entire tension disappears when security does not require users to change anything about how they work. Same browser. Same tools. Same workflows. Same login experience they have always had. Nothing new to learn, nothing extra to install, no behavior to retrain across the organization. That is not a minor convenience. For a CISO trying to roll out a security improvement without triggering an organizational headache, it is the difference between a smooth deployment and a months-long internal battle. Conceal works on any browser, any endpoint, with no friction added to the user side of the equation. The security runs in the background, enforced in real time, without touching the experience the employee actually notices. More security. Less friction. No forced tradeoff between the two. For a security leader who has spent years being told those goals are incompatible, that is a straightforward conversation. Title: CISOs Are Done Choosing Between Security and Productivity

Spencer Tall liked thisSpencer Tall liked thisA submarine doesn't survive torpedo hits because its hull is impenetrable, it survives because it's divided into watertight compartments. One breach floods one compartment; the bulkheads keep the rest of the boat dry and the mission alive. A flat network is a submarine with no bulkheads: a single hole sinks the entire boat. Microsegmentation is what installs the bulkheads, so when (not if) something gets through the hull, the blast radius is one room, not the whole vessel. Microsegmentation has always been the right answer. Architecture was the problem. A new Omdia survey, commissioned by Elisity, of 352 cybersecurity decision makers in healthcare and manufacturing puts hard numbers on what we’ve watched unfold: ▪ 99% want it deployed ▪ Only 9% have protected more than 80% of their critical systems ▪ 22% have hands-on experience with modern, identity-based approaches ▪ 62% of those who’ve seen modern tools say they’re easier than five years ago Most of the gap traces back to one decision point: whether segmentation gets tied to network location or to identity. Tools built around the first assumption demanded heavy infrastructure lifts and brittle policy constructs. Tools built around the second run on the network already in place, with policy tied to identity and context. Enterprises have been waiting for the second category to mature. This survey says it’s here. For the boards, CFOs, and cyber insurers driving these conversations now, this is the moment to reset the segmentation roadmap. Full survey results at link in the comments. #Microsegmentation #ZeroTrust #Cybersecurity

Spencer Tall liked thisSpencer Tall liked this99% of security leaders want microsegmentation deployed. Only 9% have protected more than 80% of their critical systems. A new Omdia survey of 352 cybersecurity decision makers across U.S. healthcare and manufacturing, commissioned by Elisity, lays out a clear say-do gap. Five numbers from the survey: ▪ Nearly 1 in 2 organizations experienced a lateral movement attack in the past year ▪ 57% rank microsegmentation as their top initiative to stop it ▪ 44% cite comprehensive device visibility as their biggest capability gap ▪ 69% require identity-based controls in any modern solution ▪ 32% point to cyber insurance requirements as a direct business driver Legacy tools built on VLANs, ACLs, and agents have slowed real progress for years. Most teams are still running on them. Modern, identity-based microsegmentation works differently. Policy enforces on the network infrastructure you already run. No agents. No new hardware. No VLAN reconfiguration. You contain ransomware and lateral movement across IT, IoT, OT and IoMT in weeks, not years. I've seen the early mornings, the late nights, the moments where you were stretched thin and somehow, you never let it take away from who you are. You didn't just get through this.. you showed up fully as a mom, a wife, a friend, and still gave your best to your work. That's what amazes me most. You are the most incredible mom. The way you love our kids, the way you're present with them, the example you set is something I hope they never take for granted. You're showing them what it looks like to chase big goals while staying grounded in what matters most. That's a legacy that will shape their lives forever. And then there's everything else that somehow fits into who you are... your discipline as an athlete, your curiosity and brilliance as a scholar, your generosity and desire to lift others. You don't just succeed, you bring people with you. You care deeply, and you act on it, and that's rare. What I admire most, though, is your heart. Your love for Jesus isn't something you just talk about-it shows up in how you live, how you serve, how you treat people. It's steady and real, and it shapes everything about you. You inspire so many people, Chels. I see it all the time. But I want you to know, I'm the most inspired of anyone. I get a front-row seat to your life, and it makes me better. You make me better. I'm so excited for what's ahead. This MBA is just one chapter, and I know you're going to take what you've learned and do something meaningful with it. You have this way of making a real difference, wherever you go-and I can't wait to see the impact you're going to have on the world. But more than anything, I just feel lucky. Lucky to be your husband. Lucky to build this life with you. I love you so much. Chelsea Baugh

Jason Elrod, CISO at MultiCare Health System, responsible for one of the largest health systems in the Pacific Northwest, didn't push back. He said... "100%." It's where you actually focus your people, your budget, and your tools. When every connected device has vulnerabilities and zero days are a constant, the question isn't "are we vulnerable?" Great summary of why MaiaEdge.io matters. The AI era is creating massive demand for private, low-latency connectivity across distributed infrastructure. But today’s network interconnection model — built on manual processes and spreadsheet negotiations — simply can’t keep up. MaiaEdge is fixing this. Their platform lets network operators automate private path provisioning, federate with partners, and activate services in minutes instead of months. Founded by Abilash Menon, Tim Ziemer, Patrick Melampey and Andy Ory. This team has been here before. They know how to build carrier-grade infrastructure that operators trust. Congratulations to the entire MaiaEdge team. We’re proud to be part of this journey. #venturecapital #AI #networking #infrastructure #G20Ventures

Project Vend reads less like a capability story and more like a governability story. Phase two improved because institutional scaffolding (tools, procedures, role separation) reduced predictable judgment failures—persuasion, compliance blind spots, boundary confusion, values drift. The board-level question isn’t “can an agent run a business?” but “what governance primitives must exist before we delegate authority.” Until incentives, escalation rights, and refusal boundaries are structurally enforced—not merely prompted—agents remain high-performing managers, not autonomous executives.

Today, we're welcoming ORION Security to the Norwest portfolio. The #DLP market has grown to $5B, yet most solutions are still built on thousands of static, human-authored policies. Spending time with Nitay Milner (CEO & Co-Founder) and Jonathan Kreiner (CTO & Co-Founder) in Tel Aviv reinforced why ORION stands apart. Their work is grounded in firsthand experience with the limitations of legacy DLP, guiding their passion and urgency to pave the way for an autonomous, context-driven approach that confronts today’s evolving risks head‑on. Based on our bill of materials analysis, we estimate that NTAP has the highest memory/storage exposure (nearly 40% of product COGS, but less than 1/4 of total COGS) in our IT hardware coverage which, if unmitigated by price increases or other supply chain actions, could lead to an ~5 point drag on product gross margins if NAND & DRAM pricing increased by 60% (see Theme #6 for more details on our gross margin analysis). Despite the company's sizable exposure to memory/storage, we estimate that NTAP will see the least impact to its overall gross margins because of its (1) structurally higher product gross margins from storage (v. lower margin categories like servers and PCs); and its (2) high margin services portfolio, which accounts for approximately half of its overall revenue at highly accretive margins (82% in F2025).

Each major technology wave has produced a new $10B - $20B+ identity company—and with it, an explosion in both the number and complexity of digital identities. CyberArk and SailPoint defined the on-premise era. Okta became the leader in the cloud era. Now, we’re entering the age of AI. At Felicis, we believe ConductorOne is THE defining identity security company for this new era. But the shift to AI isn’t just about scale—it’s about stakes. Identity is no longer a provisioning or IT issue; it has become the core of enterprise security. Palo Alto Networks’ $25 billion acquisition of CyberArk—the largest in its history—underscores this transformation. Today, over 60% of all cyberattacks involve identity-based compromise, making identity the #1 security priority for modern enterprises. We’re proud to have partnered with ConductorOne since early 2023. From day one, Alex Bovee and Paul Querna have executed relentlessly toward a single vision: automating security across every identity, at every scale. That vision is now resonating with some of the most forward-thinking companies in the world—including Zscaler, Brex, Ramp, Instacart, Klaviyo, Qualtrics, and many others. Congratulations to Alex, Paul, and the entire C1 team as they continue to lead the charge in securing identity for the AI era. ——— Read more here: https://lnkd.in/ghT4ri5w

I am excited to announce that Shine Capital has led AudioShake’s $14M Series A. Our investment represents the culmination of two years of searching for a company that will define the next generation of audio. Since 2023, we have been asking ourselves the question, "What technology will be used pervasively across the totality of the audio landscape?" Then we met Jessica Powell and Luke Miner, founders of AudioShake. AudioShake makes a suite of AI-powered tools for processing audio that include stem-splitting, voice isolation, speaker separation, and more. These primitives are critical infrastructure for almost any task involving audio, as evidenced by the breadth of use cases that the company serves. The Walt Disney Company and Downtown Music use AudioShake to make tracks available for sync licensing. Film studios and post-production houses use AudioShake to clean up sound from microphones to prevent re-recordings and manual audio engineering. Sports leagues and broadcasters use AudioShake to separate stadium noise from commentary to enable clean captioning and crisper audio. And Big Tech and frontier labs use AudioShake to prepare their audio data for multimodal AI training. We believe that audio will be the most important medium in the age of AI, defined by explosive growth across three categories that are even better with AudioShake: 1) Audio-as-AI-Interface: For the first time, people can perform complex compute operations using their voice. Conversing with AI will propel voice assistant usage well beyond its current ~50% adoption. 2) Explosion of Content: The rate at which user-generated content is made continues to accelerate, which will be further amplified by the possibility of AI-generated content. Audio is a superset of video — nearly every video uses sound to convey meaning, message, or emotion. 3) Voice Agents for Business: More than $100B of phone labor is performed annually in the United States. While some of it sits in call centers, most of it is fractional work. Businesses across finance, healthcare, and beyond have rapidly adopted phone agents. We are fortunate to partner with Jessica Powell and Luke Miner, passionate entrepreneurs and audiophiles dedicated to making audio as easy to work with as images or text. Audio contains vast amounts of information and creative possibility, and AudioShake will help unlock it. Thank you to our friends at Indicator Ventures for connecting us to Jessica. We are thrilled to support the AudioShake team with them, alongside Origin Ventures, Thomson Reuters, Precursor Ventures and Background Capital.

It was another significant week of news for Seraphim. We announced the latest close of our early-stage venture fund, surpassing $100m, further strengthening our global network and ability to support the leaders building the future of SpaceTech. We were also named one of Via Satellite’s Hottest Companies for 2026, described as “synonymous with gold standard investing in the satellite sector.” Ellie Gyaurova from our enterprise team was featured in Via Satellite’s Celebrating Women in Satellite 2026. Thoroughly well-deserved. Across the portfolio: LambdaVision, Inc. secured manufacturing capacity with Starlab, the commercial station venture led by Voyager Technologies, as it prepares for the post-ISS era. This marks the second recent collaboration between Voyager and another Seraphim portfolio company. AST SpaceMobile won a $30m contract linked to a U.S. military broadband demonstration. Hubble Network expanded its terrestrial integration with Samsara, strengthening the link between space and ground networks. Unlock institutional-grade yield infrastructure on the XRP Ledger, something that’s been missing since day one. Here’s the opportunity: -> XRP’s ~$200B market cap has less than 0.1% in DeFi. -> Ethereum, by comparison, has ~20% of its market cap active on-chain. That’s hundreds of billions in idle XRP and Doppler is building the rails to activate it. With custody integrations (Fireblocks, Copper, Bitgo), verifiable proof-of-reserves, and plug-and-play APIs for wallets/custodians, they’re building for regulated capital but with open access. Their $500M+ capital pipeline speaks volumes. This is a major unlock for #XRPFi and one of the most promising attempts to bridge compliant yield infra with an underserved but globally significant asset. Excited to see how this one plays out.

The next era of clean energy isn’t just about generating power—it’s about making distributed systems reliable, investable, and built to scale. That’s why we led Omnidian's $87M funding round. Omnidian provides performance assurance for residential and commercial solar and storage systems, using predictive analytics and expert service to maximize uptime, system life, and returns. As distributed energy becomes a core part of the global grid, long-term performance and trust will define the winners. Omnidian is building the infrastructure to make that possible. Congratulations to Mark Liffmann and the entire team—this is just the beginning.

SoftBank reportedly acquiring Foxconn’s Lordstown plant to support the Stargate initiative could make OH a core node for U.S. AI compute—both server manufacturing and a flagship data center in one geography. That’s different from a typical cloud DC “land, build, operate” play. A lot of questions left to be answered, but if Stargate makes Ohio the primary manufacturing and compute hub, this is strategically huge. It is more like landing a next-gen industrial anchor than a plain data center. The manufacturing/integration angle at Lordstown makes the economics look like any other hyperscale campus: big capex, low permanent headcount, heavy infrastructure demands, and an ROI depending on how well the state prices electricity/water/land/taxes. Looking to the past for a benchmark, Microsoft’s $3.3B campus in WI paired capex with AI upskilling (100k residents) and an AI manufacturing lab. This is a model Ohio could emulate to multiply spillovers beyond the small ops headcount. Could be a huge win for Ohio Kenny McDonald 🚀 https://lnkd.in/eH2gCRty

Most SMS programs don't fail at launch. They fail before it. Wrong infrastructure → registration rejected Registration rejected → campaigns carrier-filtered Carrier-filtered campaigns → messages that never arrive Messages that never arrive → revenue you can't recover and liability you didn't plan for. First-time registrants don't know what gets flagged. We do. That's the difference between five days to live and five months of rejected campaigns. 25 years in telecom. The brands that skip the foundation always pay for it later. The fix isn't a better message. It's better infrastructure. EFC Online. Five days to live. 100% deliverability on day one. Built-in. Not bolted-on.

Orbs and the Cybersecure Swarm Mobilicom (NASDAQ: MOB) is building the secure backbone for drones and robotics—AI-driven cybersecurity, radios, and autonomy. At the same time, the Orb Ontology Gravity Model redefines data: every piece becomes an orb, clustering through information gravity into decisions. Together they show the next phase of robotics: self-organizing, cybersecure ecosystems, where machines and data align not by rigid code but by emergent fields of trust and relevance.

I spoke w/ Cloudflare co-founder & CEO Matthew Prince for the latest ep of the Slow Hunch podcast. Since 2010, Matthew and his team have built Cloudflare into one of the most important companies on the internet: powering and protecting vast portions of global traffic. I’ve known Matthew since Union Square Ventures’ investment in Cloudflare’s Series C back in 2013, and it was really fun tracing his slow hunch, right from those early days. We covered: - how he met co-founders Michelle Zatlyn and Lee Holloway - the early experiments and risks that shaped Cloudflare - stories from the company’s pre-IPO days - the decision to make encryption free - how their infra ended up running 2 of the internet’s 13 root servers - his thoughts on AI (esp the transition from a search-driven internet to an answer-driven one) Hope you enjoy!

Grateful to have chaired a terrific panel at SuperReturn North America in Miami this week — "Innovation on the Frontlines: Next-Generation Defense Technologies." Sharing the stage with Stephen George (InterAlpen Partners), David Blumberg (Blumberg Capital), and my Mare Liberum partner Marc Baliotti, we tackled questions that matter deeply to how private capital engages with national security innovation: → What's actually changed — on the battlefield and in the boardroom? → Where is the innovation in defense really coming from, and which global ecosystems are producing it? → What does the valley of death look like from the investor side, and who's actually solving it? → And the question that generated the most discussion: where is private capital most needed in this sector right now — and where is it most misallocated? The room was full of serious allocators. The conversation was candid. A few things I'll carry forward: The shift from "the large and the complex" to distributed, unmanned, digitally native systems isn't just a military story — it's an investment thesis that private markets are only beginning to price correctly. Maritime is the last major industry on earth that has yet to be fundamentally modernized. That's not a problem — it's an opportunity of historic proportions. And the founders who will define the next decade of defense capability aren't all coming from inside the defense industrial base. The most interesting ones are coming from adjacent ecosystems — AI, cybersecurity, robotics — and learning to operate in a world with a very different customer. Thank you to the SuperReturn team for putting together a thoughtful program, and to my fellow panelists for a conversation worth having. #DefenseTech #NationalSecurity #VentureCapital #MaritimeInnovation #SuperReturn
