Sydni Prather shared thisLast week I wrapped up my 10-week internship at the National Football League (NFL). It was an incredibly valuable experience, and I could not be more grateful for the opportunity to work alongside so many talented people. I spent the summer as a Corporate Legal Intern, working on projects within the Sponsorships, Consumer Products, and Sports Betting spaces. I was given invaluable hands-on work from trademark and licensing issues to drafting commercial agreements. This experience encouraged me to think critically and understand the business of football through a legal lens. I would like to extend a huge thank you to my managers, Mary-Jane Rabeony and Jessie Sarkis, for making this such a rewarding experience. I would also like to thank the entire legal team for their guidance and support, and for trusting me with meaningful work this summer. Another huge thank you to Charlotte Lorentzen and Jacob Clarke for designing an internship program that provided a unique opportunity to see the NFL business from every angle, and for making this such a memorable summer. This summer has given me a deeper appreciation for the business behind the game, and I'm excited to carry those lessons back to school as I head into my 2L year.

Our NYC interns traded their desks for a behind-the-scenes experience at NFL Films, where they got an exclusive look at the incredible work of our production teams and the storytelling that brings the game to life. Even better, they had the opportunity to connect and collaborate with the NFL Films interns, building new relationships, sharing experiences, and learning from one another across different areas of the business. Moments like these are a great reminder that internships are about so much more than gaining experience. They’re about exposure, connection, curiosity, and discovering new possibilities for the future. A huge thank you to the NFL Films team for opening their doors and creating such a memorable experience for our interns. Happy #NationalInternDay to all of our talented interns across the league who bring energy and passion to everything they do!

Breaking into the sports industry has been a long-standing goal of mine, so this opportunity is especially meaningful! I look forward to learning from Mary-Jane Rabeony and Jessie Sarkis, applying what I’ve learned in my first year of law school, gaining exposure to the league’s legal work, and contributing to an incredible team. I’m also deeply grateful to the many mentors who have championed me and supported me along the way. Your guidance has meant more than you know. Looking forward to an amazing summer with the NFL!

Sydni Prather reposted thisSydni Prather reposted thisOn October 29, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States Sonia Sotomayor visited the Howard University School of Law for a fireside chat with Dean Roger A. Fairfax, Jr. During her conversation with Dean Fairfax, Justice Sotomayor reflected on her Bronx upbringing, the values her mother instilled in her about education and perseverance, and the experiences as a prosecutor and judge that shaped her understanding of justice. Sotomayor emphasized the importance of resilience, expanding one’s perspective, and encouraged students and faculty alike to embrace challenges and remain steadfast in their pursuit of justice. The event concluded with a Q&A session, offering students the opportunity to engage directly with Justice Sotomayor and capture a memorable moment with her.

Sydni Prather liked thisSydni Prather liked thisExcited to share that I’ve officially begun my 2L year at Howard University School of Law! Reflecting on the past few months, I’m grateful for the experiences and opportunities that have shaped my journey so far. This summer, I had the privilege of serving as a judicial intern in the chambers of the Honorable Rahkel Bouchet at the D.C. Superior Court. Working alongside the court gave me an invaluable window into judicial decision-making and the litigation process. I also interned at Malloy Law Offices, where I gained hands-on experience in personal injury litigation and saw firsthand how legal advocacy directly impacts clients’ lives. As I step into 2L, I’m honored to take on two new roles: Staff Editor for the Howard Law Journal and Teaching Assistant for Torts. Both are opportunities I don’t take lightly, and I’m eager to contribute to our scholarly community while helping fellow students navigate a foundational area of law. To everyone who has supported me along the way—thank you. Here’s to the year ahead. 📚

Sydni Prather reacted on thisSydni Prather reacted on thisThis summer I dedicated a week to helping more than 75 students join us at Howard University School of Law for Just The Beginning – A Pipeline Organization DC Summer Legal Institute. I prepared them for oral arguments by breaking down case law regarding First Amendment issues like Hazelwood and Tinker and helping them apply it to their arguments.⚖️ Outside the classroom setting, students spent the week engaging with the law through visits and programming at the Supreme Court, Georgetown Law, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, Crowell & Moring LLP, and Holland & Knight. Each experience helped students see the many pathways available in the legal field and imagine how the law can shape their futures. I also helped with the first Alumni Summit for rising high school seniors through rising college seniors. I led a panel about law school preparation, the application process, LSAT prep, and how their unique interests can connect to meaningful legal careers. Thank you Misitura (Missy) Jeje for the opportunity, and to Jadyn Sutton for being an incredible partner throughout.

Sydni Prather reacted on thisSydni Prather reacted on thisAs I begin my second year at Howard University School of Law, I’ve been reflecting on a summer and upcoming school year filled with growth, opportunities, and reminders of why I chose this path in the first place. This summer, I had the privilege of serving as a Summer Legal Intern with the United States Attorneys' Offices for the District of New Jersey. Being able to step into spaces where the law is practiced every day, observing court proceedings and a trial, researching and drafting legal work, and working with grand jury transcripts gave me a deeper understanding of both the power and responsibility that comes with being an attorney. More importantly, it reminded me how meaningful it is to see Black women entering and making an impact in spaces where we have historically been underrepresented. As I enter my 2L year, I’m incredibly grateful to continue building a legal education rooted in service and advocacy. I was honored to be pinned as a Student Attorney for Howard Law’s Civil Rights Clinic for Spring 2027, where I’ll have the opportunity to serve clients and put the skills I’ve learned in the classroom into practice. I’m also excited to officially join the Howard Human and Civil Rights Law Review, Volume XI, as a Staff Editor and serve as the Secretary of Howard Law’s Christian Legal Society. Each of these opportunities represents a different part of my journey to becoming a lawyer; one committed to service, scholarship, advocacy, and community. There is still so much work to do, and I’m ready for it. Here’s to 2L year!
