Taylor Searcy posted thisI don't often post on LinkedIn, but what a great week to celebrate Earth Day! Five notes of gratitude for this week: 1. A huge milestone: GM became the first U.S. automaker to match 100% of our electricity consumption in the U.S. with renewables in 2025. I am extremely thankful to be part of the team that made this a success! (Rob Threlkeld, Monica Walker, Rebecca (Becky) Tody, Daniel Jarratt, Meaghan Krohn, Jason Schneemann, Meraj Faiz, Chris Rizzi, Jason Traczynski, Krysten Cruz, Danette Butcher, Jordyn Kreucher, Hannah Abell, and so many others). 2. GM is a signatory to an important public statement urging a "may" not "shall" approach to 24/7 hourly energy matching in the GHGP Scope 2 guidance. The existing market-based accounting framework, while not perfect, has been a catalyst for a significant growth in renewables over the past decade - let's keep building on this momentum! Thanks for spearheading this important effort, Miranda Ballentine!(https://lnkd.in/gTg_RdaH) 3. I had the pleasure of speaking on an industrial decarbonization panel at the MI Healthy Climate Conference this week. Thanks to Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy and Audrey Whaling, Darren Riley and Elina Vanuska (plus the amazing effort of Haley Neuenfeldt and countless others who organized this wonderful convening of climate leaders in the state). 4. The facilities team and volunteers across our Global Tech Center outdid themselves once again on hosting an amazing Bring Your Kids to Work Day! I continue to be inspired by GM's commitment to our youth and ensuring a brighter future for everyone! Both Finley and Isaac slept well on the ride home. 5. Most importantly, I'm grateful to my loving wife Karen Wang-Searcy, who continues to keep me sane and our family organized. This week, she stayed home with our four-year-old Darwin who was ill with a relentless cough (yet his boundless energy is impressive, even for toddler standards). Karen is a true rockstar!

Taylor Searcy liked thisTaylor Searcy liked thisThis photo was taken almost one year ago today. Anousheh Ansari and I were on a panel together, talking about the value of collaboration in climate work. Following the great work of our teams - now, just 12 months later, I’m excited to announce Amazon and the XPRIZE Foundation are collaborating on a big idea: XPRIZE Critical Minerals. Lithium, cobalt, nickel, and rare earth minerals may not cross your mind that often - but we rely on them daily. They power everything from the devices in our hands to the clean energy transition, and demand is projected to quadruple by 2040. Problem is, supply chains simply weren't built for that kind of demand. It's a problem that poses serious risks for geopolitical stability, human rights and the environment. The solution requires fundamentally rethinking how these minerals are sourced, processed, and used - so Amazon and XPRIZE are launching a global competition for innovators to develop breakthroughs in critical minerals circularity that will: ♻️ Recover and reuse critical minerals more effectively 🔗 Reduce reliance on vulnerable supply chains 🌍 Cut emissions 🤝 Safeguard human rights and ecosystems 📈 Unlock economically viable pathways for circular mineral production and responsible sourcing Amazon is helping shape the design and development of XPRIZE Critical Minerals, but (getting back to last year’s conversation with Anousheh) more collaboration will make the competition even stronger! Today’s LA Business Council Sustainability Summit proved business and climate solutions can — and must — move together. Transportation is the elephant in the room — over half of CA emissions — so cutting Vehicle Miles Traveled and electrifying fleets must be urgent priorities. Proud of Metro CEO Stephanie Wiggins’ push for bold electrification efforts and sustainable infrastructure projects. Seeing Secretary Toks Omishakin talk about prioritizing partnerships and community engagement to create a cleaner, safer, more equitable and connected transportation system for California is inspiring for policy makers. Lauren Sanchez’s leadership as CARB Chair and Secretary Wade Crowfoot’s championing of smart innovative solutions were energizing and hopeful. #climateaction #resilience #equity #sustainability #cleanenergy #capandinvest #netzero Los Angeles Metro

Our cities are on the front lines of the #EV revolution, which is why ComEd joined forces with the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus to create the EV Readiness Program three years ago. Yesterday at the Illinois Institute of Technology, we celebrated the third cohort of communities to complete the program, which helps communities shape policies and implement best practices for safe and effective regional transportation electrification. The City of Chicago, the City of Rockford Illinois, and the Village Of Glenview were among the 17 communities who recently completed the program, bringing the total to nearly 40 – with a fourth cohort of communities to be announced this week. Great to have EV champions at every level of government, including Illinois Senator Richard Durbin, EV Officer for Illinois Megha Lakhchaura, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rodkin Rotering, Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns, Illinois Institute of Technology’s Raj Echambadi and Mohammad Shahidehpour. $20 Million in Funding Available for Public Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Rebuild Illinois Allocates Funding to Further Expand EV Charging in Illinois Springfield – Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Acting Director James Jennings today announced a Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA) Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the purchase and installation of new Direct Current Fast Charging (DCFC) EV charging stations (Level 3) and alternating current (Level 2) charging stations to be located at publicly accessible locations in Illinois. This first-come, first-served opportunity is being made available through Governor Pritzker’s bipartisan Rebuild Illinois capital plan for electric vehicle projects authorized under CEJA. Due to the first come, first served nature of this round of funding, Illinois EPA is posting the application materials today on Amplifund. This round will begin accepting applications on Monday, November 17, 2025, at 9:00 A.M. Central Time. “Governor Pritzker has prioritized electrification of the transportation sector to improve air quality and benefit the health of our residents,” said Acting Director Jennings. “To support that priority, we are committed to expanding the charging infrastructure necessary to power current and future electric vehicles throughout Illinois.” Each application for Level 3 chargers must include a minimum of two charging station locations. This NOFO will fund up to eight DCFC ports per location, and there is no limit on the number of Level 2 ports funded at a location. Eligible applicants must be an owner of a proposed charging station location and/or an owner of the proposed charging station. All applications must meet a minimum score to be eligible. Factors that are scored includes project readiness, location in a county where Illinois EPA has not previously funded projects, distance to public EV charging sites, and location at public transportation Park-and-Ride Facility. Additional funding will also be awarded to projects at a charging station location in an area identified as an Equity Investment Eligible Community through the EIEC mapping tool. At that link, projects qualify for the additional points if they are in either an EJ or an R3 Community. https://lnkd.in/gNZ9_sdk

National leaders need intelligence and analysis that’s free from political agendas. From everything I’ve read—including the report below—the most current DoE Climate Report seems driven more by an agenda than by solid analysis. I’ll admit, I was initially skeptical about earlier climate reports, wondering if they were painting a “worst case” scenario. But over the past 20 years, the climate models and data have consistently lined up. If anything, previous reports have actually downplayed the impact of rising ocean surface temperatures. The planet is warming, and the evidence is clear: human emissions are the main driver. We can’t undo what’s already been done, and realistically, it’s unlikely we’ll act quickly enough as a species to fully mitigate the damage. But what we can do is plan responsibly for a future where weather events become more frequent and intense as the atmosphere holds more energy. We're not going to be inudated tomorrow, but we can plan for increased storm intensity and frequency; we can change the way we manage forests and ranges to mitigate increased fire risk, we can invest in more Coast Guard resources to protect the Arctic, and we can continue to invest in non-fossil fuel energy like nuclear & hydroelectric for base load power. Absent objective analysis to policymakers (and the public) however, we'll simply be less prepared for the next 100-year storm or wildland fire. #sciencematters #climate #resilience #emergencymanagement #energy

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency will open its fourth round of EV rebates on October 28, 2025, with applications accepted through January 31, 2026, or until $14 million in funding is exhausted. This round offers $2,000 off a new or used electric car and $1,500 off an electric motorcycle. Low-income residents earning less than 80 percent of their county’s income threshold qualify for an additional $2,000, bringing potential savings to $4,000. See EVinfo.net's article: https://lnkd.in/grZy68By To be eligible, vehicles must be purchased from a dealership licensed by the Illinois Secretary of State, cost less than $80,000, and not have been included in a previous rebate application. Rebates must be claimed within 180 days of purchase, and buyers may only receive one rebate in the program’s lifetime. The IEPA uses VIN numbers to track eligibility and prevent duplicates. Since the program began in 2023, Illinois has awarded over 11,000 rebates, 4,872 in its first year, 3,000 in 2024, and another 3,500 so far in 2025. The timing of this round is particularly important, following the September 30, 2025 expiration of the federal EV tax credit, which had offered up to $7,500 in savings. Illinois is pushing ahead with its clean transportation goals. As of September 2025, the state had more than 152,000 EVs on its roads. The Climate and Equitable Jobs Act has provided rebates that make EVs more affordable, while initiatives like the EV Readiness Program are helping cities prepare charging infrastructure. Illinois also participates in REV Midwest, which expands charging access across state lines. By combining rebates, infrastructure investment, and community readiness, Illinois is building momentum toward its ambitious EV goal and positioning itself as a national leader in transportation electrification. Forward-thinking, well-respected Governor JB Pritzker has set a bold target: one million clean energy vehicles on state roads by 2030. Pritzker announced in June 2025 that he is running for a third term in the 2026 gubernatorial election.
