I am incredibly proud of the work we’ve done together—from designing organizational change and leadership development to building operational excellence. This impact was only possible because of the people. I joined for the people, and I leave with deep gratitude for the collaborators and friends in Engineering, Products, the HRBP org, and People Service Delivery. You showed up with empathy and courage, even—and especially—when the work was challenging. Thank you for being a part of this chapter! Tim Cramer reacted on thisTim Cramer reacted on thisIt is with mixed emotions, and a great deal of gratitude, that I announce my retirement from Red Hat, effective this Friday, November 21, 2025. After 40+ years of programming—including 24+ years at Red Hat—it is time to take a step back. Turning 65 in December certainly played a part in this decision. I will not be totally disappearing as I signed a contract with Red Hat to continue as a contractor. Periodically I will answer questions on Slack, and will still poke around with projects like RamaLama and Podman, Buildah and friends. I believe Red Hat is in great shape, with senior leadership almost entirely homegrown, and these leaders understand the Red Hat ethos. I loved working at Red Hat and working with all of the exceptional people that work here. I was always amazed at the brilliance of the engineering talent and its passion for open source. When I joined Red Hat it was a tiny company trying to survive the .com bubble bursting with around 400 employees. I have watched it grow to over 20,000 now. My laptops have gone from Fedora 1 to Fedora 43 and will continue to Fedora 100… Open Source has been the secret to our success. Working for a company that did not embrace and empower its employees to contribute back would have been impossible for me. Thanks to all of my friends and colleagues that I have worked with over the years, all of the managers, interns, customers, fellow engineers have made this the best job I have ever had. I have known Bill McMillan for many years and have always had tremendous respect for his deep expertise in HPC and distributed workload management. Bill has spent decades working at the center of some of the most important innovations in the HPC ecosystem. In this article, Bill reflects on more than 20 years of GPU support within IBM Spectrum LSF and the evolution of GPU-accelerated computing. Long before the current surge of AI infrastructure, platforms like LSF were already solving complex challenges around scheduling, resource management, and large-scale compute orchestration.
