Big week in the world of AI for Risk Management. Developments like Anthropic’s latest Claude capabilities show how quickly AI is starting to take on work that once required highly specialised software and teams, across legal analysis, compliance, regulatory scanning, and risk assessment. Markets reacted quickly as disruption to traditional platforms was priced in. Having spent years building specialised software to tackle risk problems, I know how hard this used to be (and probably still is). Reasoning models are starting to surface patterns and risks in real time, at a very different scale. This is very impressive even if the jury is still out on whether they consistently outperform established technologies. That’s exciting, and a little unsettling. You gain speed and capability, but you also give up some transparency and control. Automation can support decisions, but accountability cannot be outsourced. That’s why strong AI governance matters more than ever.

In my 30 years in forensic technology, I’ve seen the toolset evolve from hex editors and command-line scripts to massive AI-driven platforms.
