Timothy Eklund reposted thisTimothy Eklund reposted thisWe'd all rather have Matt Foley as our motivation. Since he's unavailable, queue up "Takin' Care of Business" instead — and let's deal with that demurrage bill before it puts you in some van down by the river. You ready? Good. There's a huge demurrage bill hiding in this railyard. You can't see it, but our team can. Most shippers meet their demurrage bills months later — a big number in a small cubicle, that nobody in the building can pay or explain. 15–30 minutes. Free. We'll tell you exactly what you're looking at. Understand it. Pro-actively manage it. Collaboratively resolve it! Or wait for the next $100k invoice or $1.2 million, annually - that headache never goes away. If nothing changes, then the bills keep coming. Become a demurrage hero, by driving your demurrage spend to zero. Start a conversation: inquiries@rail-industrial.com #Demurrage #FreightRail #SupplyChain #RailLogistics #ShipperAdvocacy

Timothy Eklund reposted thisTimothy Eklund reposted thisALL ABOARD 🤘 Do yourself a favor, first. To make this post more energizing, actionable and related to your runaway train.... (Cue up and blast "Crazy Train" while you read it, unless in a cubicle, of course — like butter on popcorn, it just goes together.). It's far more therapeutic, meaningful and inspirational, this way. #RailShipping #Logistics #Freight #SupplyChain #Rail #Demurrage #Transload Somewhere in your building, or working remote all alone at home, one person might own rates, demurrage, transload, training the new hire and much more. I think it's fair to say, that person is not okay. They aren't in denial, you are. Railroads spent a decade promising w/ PSR, they could do more with less. They were right this time — they just failed to mention where the "more" would land. It landed with you. More layoffs. More stress. More burnout. More rate delays. More headaches. More work absorbed by the cubicles, who never got the chance to vote. So here's the honest question: where in your operation are you quietly covering for somebody else's efficiency? A few places it tends to hide: → RATE ANALYSIS AND NEGOTIATIONS. When did you last benchmark what you're paying against what you could be paying? If the answer is "last year," that's a memory, not a number. → DEMURRAGE. Reactive means you find out when the invoice lands. Proactive means you saw it coming. Those are two different companies. → TRANSLOAD. The option everybody means to evaluate and nobody has a free Thursday to actually price out. Today just happens to be Thursday, btw - this space is our bread and butter, so making sure you are still with me. → TRAINING NEW STAFF. The person who knew everything retired in March and took thirty years of context out the door with them. → MERGER CONCERNS. Consolidation never stops to ask what it does to your routing, your rates, or your service. Do you know what your options look like on the other side of it? → BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT. New lanes, new facilities, new customers — the growth work that slides to next quarter every time something urgent lands. Which is daily. → BUILDING THE NETWORK. Knowing who to call before you need to call them. None of this is exotic or rocket science. It's just more than one desk can hold. That's the whole idea and takeaway here — connecting dots for shippers who don't have the hours to connect them. Current shippers, some former shippers, and the ones in denial, still making up their minds. If you've been railroaded and you need assistance, we are the hotline for rail shippers, who need our help. Ask us anything. Rates, routing, equipment, or even where the bathroom is. We'll do our best to answer all of them. You aren't alone. Email us. It's free. inquiries@rail-industrial.com

Timothy Eklund shared thisWe Offer Rail Car Storage! Idle railcars shouldn't mean idle capital. When the market shifts, fleets need somewhere secure to park cars — and a partner who keeps them ready to roll when demand returns. That's what we do at Rail-Industrial Partners. Our railcar services are built as one integrated platform: 🚉 Storage — Secure short- and long-term capacity on Class I and shortline-connected tracks, with capacity planning, tracking, and access scheduling. 🧼 Cleaning — Commodity-specific tank and hopper washes that meet all regulatory standards. 🔧 Repair & Maintenance — AAR-certified repairs, component replacement, and preventative programs that extend fleet life and cut out-of-service downtime. Timothy Eklund shared thisSo perfectly explained! This is our thesis in the rail transportation space. Our strength is our ability to execute and integrate. To create Lasting Value! Check us out: www.rail-industrial.com Rail-Industrial Partners, LLC Tim Naprstek Asif Hussain Melissa Wilkins Michael Corr Trevin Hogg, MBATimothy Eklund shared thisNo to PE , yes to roll ups… Why are so many people obsessed with roll ups? Because on paper they look simple. Buy great businesses. Create scale. Expand margins. Sell at a higher multiple. The reality is much harder. I recently watched Henry Kravis explain why he wouldn’t recommend starting another private equity firm today. That caught my attention. The takeaway wasn’t that acquisitions are a bad business. It was that capital alone is no longer a competitive advantage. Anyone can raise money. Anyone can buy companies. Very few can integrate businesses, build systems, attract exceptional operators, leverage AI, and create an organization that’s worth more than the sum of its parts. A roll up isn’t a strategy. It’s an execution challenge. The winners over the next decade won’t be the firms that acquire the most companies. They’ll be the ones that build the best operating platform after the acquisition. That’s why we’re seeing such a shift from financial engineering to operational engineering. The acquisition gets you in the door. Execution determines the outcome. What’s your view? Are roll ups still one of the best wealth creation strategies, or has the real advantage shifted to who can operate the businesses after they’re acquired? Link to his talk https://lnkd.in/dsXSeFYR

In 1980, legislation was enacted that has significantly helped the railroad industry operate more efficiently and reliably. The Staggers Act removed decades of over-regulation, giving railroads a free hand to invest in their privately funded networks and improve their operations. One of the many benefits of the act has been on the safety front. Freight rail is safer than it's ever been. Accident and injury rates are at an all-time low, and BNSF is an industry leader. The Staggers Act has been a good thing for the railroad industry, for our customers and for consumers. And it's also helped keep our employees and the communities on our network safe.

Excited to share the first of five installments in Railway Age — where our very own Robert Russell talks rail growth from truck conversions. Part 1 sets the stage by examining the proposed Union Pacific acquisition of Norfolk Southern and the significant truck-to-rail conversion projections tied to the transaction. Rob frames the opportunity and the questions behind those claims using industry experience, historical context, and practical realities. The series will explore what meaningful rail growth really requires — and what it means for competition, shippers, and the broader supply chain. 📊 Future installments will examine carload growth, intermodal challenges, competitive dynamics, and pricing implications. 👉 Follow us on LinkedIn to catch each installment as it’s released. ➡️Read the article here: https://lnkd.in/eQSfcxMa #RailwayAge #Rail #Freight #SupplyChain #Intermodal #Transportation #Logistics #Infrastructure #TruckToRail

The Staggers Rail Act of 1980 partially deregulated the freight rail industry, giving freight railroads the flexibility to make the money they needed to invest back into their networks. And those investments continue today. For example, 👉 CN is investing in the Zanardi Rapids Bridge at the Port of Prince Rupert, one of North America’s fastest-growing trade gateways. ✅ Replacing a bottleneck, allowing for much higher volumes ✅ Adding several miles of new track in both directions, connecting to a new three-track bridge. ✅ Supporting decades of long-term trade growth. #Staggers45 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eAGHgNtk

Rail Consolidation is Driving Up Your Shipping Costs Key findings from the Rail Customer Coalition: 🔺 Rates up 44% (inflation-adjusted) over 20 years while rail traffic dropped 14% 🔺 Railroad profit margins increased by 237% since 2004 🔻 Industry consolidation: From 23 major railroads in 1983 to just 6 today 🔴 47% of rail revenue now comes from non-competitive rates (vs. 27% in 2004) The result? American shippers are paying inflated rates due to a lack of competition, pushing more freight to trucks and highways. With the potential UP-NS merger, the outcome is likely to be less competition.
