Health officials have confirmed the first case of West Nile Virus in the city of Arcadia this year, authorities said this weekend.

The sample was collected on Aug. 18 from a trap site near Baldwin Stocker Park, according to the San Gabriel Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District

West Nile virus is transmitted to people and animals through the bite of an infected mosquito. Most people who become infected have no symptoms, while about one in five develop a fever and other symptoms, according to health officials.

About one in 150 infected people develop severe symptoms that can include high fever, stiff neck and muscle weakness. Severe illness can include meningitis, encephalitis and paralysis, health officials said.

People older than 50 and those with certain health conditions face a greater risk of serious illness.

There is no vaccine or specific treatment for West Nile virus.

Earlier this month, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health confirmed the county’s first West Nile virus death of the year amid elevated virus activity statewide.

The person who died was a San Fernando Valley resident who was hospitalized with neurological illness caused by severe West Nile virus.

To reduce exposure to mosquitoes with WNV, residents are urged to:

Get rid of standing water, aside from pools properly treated with chemicals.

Spend as little time as possible outdoors at dawn or dusk, when mosquitoes are generally on the move.

Wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts during outdoor activity in mosquito-prone areas.

Use insect repellent.

Ensure door and window screens are fitted properly to keep bugs out.

<excerpt>Well, fingers crossed, of course: The much-loved LA Arboretum experience returns next week.</excerpt>

All due respect and admiration and wonder directed at our nearest star: It’s an absolute marvel, and we stand fully agog every day at the sun’s gravitational and energetic gifts, gifts we enjoy here on our home planet.

But come late July, around Southern California, a little respite from this powerful superstar’s sheer intensity can be a welcome thing. That’s when we turn to the moon, specifically the full moon, and its incredible ethereal charms.

The staff at the Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden understand our moon mania, which doesn’t only exist during the hottest stretches of the year. Still, when it is especially searing out, it is sweet to retreat to the pretty Arcadia property after-hours, all to bask in the beams of our lunar friend.

We’ll get that opportunity not once but twice as July draws to a close: The next full moon is due, the Buck Moon, and LA Arboretum is holding a pair of Forest Bathing: Full Moon experiences.

You won’t set off in darkness; rather, everything starts before sunset, allowing you to “… experience the softening of light and sound, the changing sky, and the rising moon.”

“As darkness falls, we shift from visual focus to subtler senses to guide our exploration.”

The dates are July 28 and 29, the hours are 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., and tickets? If you’re a member, your admission is $25, while non-members pay $35.

If your plan is to savor the moon’s shine at home or elsewhere on those nights, be not blue as the moon itself: There are other lovely happenings ahead at the garden, including Summer Camp for Adults (the July 26 event boasts a Christmas in July theme) and a Cactus & Succulent Show & Sale in August.

Check out all of the to-dos on this page, or simply stop by to wander the pathways before or after the heat of the day hits.

What to Know

Plumeria Festival 2026

Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden

Arcadia

July 17 from 4 to 8 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 18

Included with admission

All sorts of pretty prompts can inspire a conversation, and maybe an eventual friendship, with a neighbor you don’t yet know.

Your neighbor might hang interesting windchimes on their patio or play their guitar on their porch, and both are fine conversation-starters. But so is spying a small tree in your neighbor’s yard, a stunning and scent-filled shrub brimming with plumeria blossoms.

This sensational specimen, which is known for its fragrance and beauty, will start plenty of conversations on July 17 and 18 when the 12th Annual Plumeria Festival opens its petals at the Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden.

If you’re a frangipani fan, and you’d like to learn more about the flower’s care, experts will be at the Arcadia garden to discuss the tropical favorites. Look for vendors, too, around 20, and walking tours of some of LA Arboretum‘s exquisite plumeria plants.

There are over 100 trees to admire by sight and by scent, and pondering whether a plumeria flower greets the eye or the nose first might be a topic you think about as you stroll.

While plumeria will be for sale, so will other gorgeous growing things, including succulents and staghorn ferns.

Your garden admission is all that’s required, but, of course, you might want funds to shop and visit the food trucks, which will also take tasty part in the event.

Will attending the floral festival help you find conversation-starters, the chat-beginning plumeria topics you’ll want the next time you run into your plumeria-growing neighbor? Perhaps.

A devotion to this dazzling bloomer has a way of uniting flower fans, and high summer in Southern California is a prime and nose-pleasing time to bask in plumeria’s power.

Six late spring and mid-summer afternoons and evenings, one place, and one major festival that spotlights a sumptuous swath of Asian meals, desserts, and drinks, the sorts of goodies you might find in the moonlight at a bustling night market in Singapore or Kuala Lumpur?

Put it tastily together and you have 626 Night Market, a venerable and beloved feast-around that offers guests an appetizing experience with international flair.

The event is returning to Santa Anita Park in Arcadia from June 19 through 21 and again in the middle of August. There’s no Costa Mesa event in 2026, do keep in mind, though a return in 2027 is promised on the 626 Night Market site.

A one-day ticket is $8, and food and beverage purchases are additional.

Some of the delicious dishes and drinks you’ll find at the upcoming market include chili garlic noodles, lobster rolls, sorbet infused with tea, Asian funnel cakes, Korean corndogs, sushi pizza, fried chicken lollipops, and papaya salad.

Shopping, too, is a draw for guests, and the handmade vendors at the June 19-21 event will have Thai-inspired clothing, Japanese plushies, socks, tees, anime goods, and pet items for sale.

The entertainment element is always strong: DJ music, Taiko drumming, USC Traditional Chinese Dance, and a host of cultural performances will be at centerstage during the June festival.

The Southern California market debuted in 2012 and has remained a popular and busy fan favorite each summer. It’s ‘… more than just a food festival, it’s a celebration of Asian-inspired culture,” and a “rich tapestry of Asian food, creativity, and community.”

<excerpt>Some Arcadia residents worry former mayor Eileen Wang's indictment could bring unfair scrutiny on the broader Chinese and Asian American community.</excerpt>

In 2024, voters in the Southern California city of Arcadia elected the first all-Asian city council in the city’s history.

Now, one of those politicians has pleaded guilty to being an illegal agent of the Chinese government. Former Arcadia Mayor Eileen Wang’s plea, entered in federal court Friday, continues a saga that some residents of the area worry could bring unfair scrutiny on the broader Chinese and Asian American community.

Arcadia has gone under rapid demographic change in the last two decades as immigrants from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong flocked to the San Gabriel Valley east of Los Angeles. After Wang’s case was made public May 11, the news made national headlines and filled the unassuming suburban city with anger, disappointment and murmurs of quiet concern. On social media, fears about spies and Chinese Communist Party influence abounded.

“We cannot allow this moment to become an excuse for people to paint entire communities with one brush or weaponize ethnicity for political gain,” acting Mayor Paul Cheng said in a statement.

Shock in heavily Chinese community

Wang agreed in April to plead guilty to doing the bidding of Chinese officials by sharing articles favorable of Beijing on a news website she ran, without notifying the U.S. government as required by law.

The 56-year-old was elected in November 2022 to a five-person City Council, from which the mayor is selected on a rotating basis. She was born in Chengdu, China, and immigrated to the U.S. in 1995.

The San Gabriel Valley is home to the largest concentration of residents of Chinese and Taiwanese descent in the United States. Beginning in the 1970s, real estate developers marketed the region as “Chinese Beverly Hills” to woo affluent immigrants. As the population grew, it became a haven for newer immigrants who could go about life without needing English, access business opportunities, and avoid putting their children through China’s intensely competitive education system. Arcadia’s population of about 53,000 is majority Asian, like many other cities in the region.

Ted Tseng, 52, arrived in Arcadia from Taiwan nearly 40 years ago with his parents, who emigrated because they feared potential conflict between Taiwan and China.

Tseng was concerned Wang’s indictment would deepen animosity against Asian Americans and discredit their contributions to the region. Fears of anti-Asian racism, though hate crimes are down since the COVID-19 pandemic, still linger.

“I’m just worried our image has been damaged,” Tseng said.

Feds crack down on Chinese espionage

The U.S. Department of Justice has escalated efforts in recent years to combat Chinese espionage. In April, a man accused of running a secret Chinese spy outpost in Manhattan’s Chinatown neighborhood was convicted of acting as an illegal foreign agent.

Wang has suggested that she was misled by her former fiance, Yaoning “Mike” Sun, who pleaded guilty to the same charge last year and is now serving a four-year prison sentence. Sun was the treasurer for Wang’s 2022 election campaign.

A statement shared by Wang’s lawyers references her “trust and love for apparently the wrong person who ultimately led her astray.”

April Verlato, a former City Council member who served with Wang, said Wang and Sun lived together, and Sun accompanied Wang wherever she went.

Verlato said Wang should have stepped down as soon as she came under investigation.

“She was being selfish, getting sworn in as mayor and not resigning when she knew she was going to be pleading guilty to something,” Verlato said.

Gene Sun, a long-time lawyer in Arcadia, agreed.

“I don’t understand how she could have continued being a City Council member,” he said.

Beijing seeks influence overseas

It is not surprising that the Chinese government would attempt to exert political influence in the region, especially given the increased political tension and economic rivalry between China and the U.S. in recent years, said Wei Li, a professor of Asian Pacific American Studies at Arizona State University.

“A lot of countries, if they have the will and if they have the means, will try to influence their diaspora,” Li said.

According to his federal criminal complaint, Sun was in contact with John Chen, who also pleaded guilty to being an illegal agent of the Chinese government, regarding local politicians that Beijing could influence. In reports to Chinese officials, Sun and Chen called Wang a “New Political Star” and bragged about her contacts with mainstream U.S. politicians.

They also wrote of combatting “anti-China forces” such as Taiwan independence and the Falun Gong, an exiled anti-communist spiritual movement.

In a January 2023 message from Chen to Wang referenced in Sun’s criminal complaint, Chen said: “You are doing a good job, I hope you can continue the good work, make Chinese people proud.”

Some fear political repercussions for Asian Americans

Not only was the news of her guilty plea like a “slap in the face,” the reaction from some community members has also been painful, said Cheng, the acting mayor.

Some residents at a May 19 City Council meeting blamed remaining council members for enabling Wang and called for their resignations.

“I’ve been called more names, been told to go back to China although that’s not where I’m from,” said Cheng, who came to the U.S. from Taiwan at age 2.

For many Arcadia residents and workers, life was as usual the day after the news broke. Many smiled apologetically when asked about the issue, saying they don’t pay attention to politics.

Aliza Mo, who emigrated from China six years ago for her children’s education, said she first thought the headlines must be exaggerated.

“A lot of people wondered if it was discrimination,” she said.

When she learned what Wang pleaded guilty to, she changed her mind.

“I think it would be improper for anyone to be doing something like that,” she said.

Wang stepped down as the city’s mayor and resigned from the council when felony charges were announced May 11.

She agreed to plead guilty to one count of acting in the United States as an illegal agent of a foreign government, which carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison. Wang was expected to appear in court later Friday morning.

Wang and then-fiancé Mike Sun operated the website U.S. News Center, aimed at the Chinese American community, and followed the instructions of Chinese government officials to post articles favorable to Beijing, without prior notification to the U.S. government as required by law, according to the plea agreement.

“The key here is her failure to disclose her connection with the government of China,” NBC4 legal analyst Royal Oakes said. “The allegation is that she was really acting at their direction. She was their agent. And, whether she’s stealing nuclear secrets or just posting editorials that were pro-China, the fact is without registering as an agent she’s breaking federal law.”

In one example cited in the agreement, Wang was directed through an encrypted message to publish an essay refuting reports by human rights groups of the persecution, forced labor and abuse of the Uyghur population in China’s Xinjiang province. The essay was meant to explain “China’s stance on the Xinjiang issue — there is no genocide in Xinjiang; there is no such thing as ‘forced labor’ in any production activity, including cotton production,” the message read. “Spreading such rumor is to defame China, destroy Xinjiang’s safety and stability, weaken local economy, suppress China’s development.”

Minutes later, Wang posted the article, making changes to the piece at the direction of a Chinese government official over the next few months, according to papers filed in Los Angeles federal court.

In a statement, attorney for Wang said. “She apologizes and is sorry for the mistakes she has made in her personal life. Her love and devotion for the Arcadia community have not changed and did not waver.”

Earlier this month, Wang’s attorney said “her trust and love for apparently the wrong person who ultimately led her astray.”

At the time of the alleged offenses, Wang was engaged to Sun, her attorneys said. Wang has said the relationship ended in spring 2024.

At the direction of the Chinese government, Sun organized a team to help elect Wang to the Arcadia City Council in November 2022, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Sun was listed as the campaign treasurer.

Sun, 65, of Chino Hills, pleaded guilty in October 2025 to the same charge Wang is facing and is serving a four-year prison term.

“(People) in our country who covertly do the bidding of foreign governments undermine our democracy,” First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli said. “This plea agreement is the latest success in our determination to defend the homeland against China’s efforts to corrupt our institutions.”

Arcadia city manager Dominic Lazzaretto said in a news release that no city finances or staff were involved.

“We want to be clear: this investigation concerns individual conduct, and the charges are for conduct that ceased after Ms. Wang was sworn into office in December 2022,” he said.

A long-term investigation led to the arrest of an alleged major fentanyl trafficker in Arcadia and the seizure of millions of potentially deadly doses of fentanyl, California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced Thursday.

“We have arrested another fentanyl trafficker who was poisoning our communities and profiting off addiction,” Bonta said in a statement.

Authorities said the fentanyl haul amounted to an estimated 8.5 million potentially lethal doses with a street value of at least $1.3 million. They also seized 17 kilograms of powder fentanyl, one kilogram of cocaine, and a handgun during the operation.

The Department of Justice said charges include possession for sale of a controlled substance, transportation of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance while armed.

Bonta said the case reflects broader efforts to combat the fentanyl epidemic in California and across the nation.

“This fight is about more than one criminal,” Bonta said. “It is about confronting the fentanyl epidemic that has devastated families across our nation.

Since April 2022, the California Department of Justice said it has seized about 17.3 million fentanyl pills and more than 7,100 pounds of powder fentanyl and made more than 621 fentanyl-related arrests statewide.

“If you traffic fentanyl, we will find you, we will prosecute you, and we will hold you accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” said Bonta.

In 2023, the department created its Fentanyl Enforcement Program to target fentanyl distribution organizations operating throughout California. The program includes enforcement teams based in San Diego, Los Angeles and Dublin, California.

The former mayor of Arcadia was expected to plead guilty after being charged with acting as an illegal agent of the People’s Republic of China, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said Monday.

Eileen Wang, who was elected to the Arcadia City Council in November 2022, reached a plea deal with the federal government after she was accused of doing the bidding for the Chinese government via a “news” website.

Wang, 58, as well as Yaoning “Mike” Sun of Chino Hills, allegedly worked at the direction of the People’s Republic of China and operated “U.S. News Center,” a website that purposed to be a news source for the local Chinese American community between late 2020 and through 2022.

The DOJ said Wang and Sun received directives from Chinese officials to post content that’s favorable to the Chinese government and spread propaganda on behalf of the People’s Republic of China (PRC).

“It is deeply concerning that someone who previously received and executed directives from PRC government officials is now in a position of public trust at all, but particularly so because that relationship with that foreign government had never been disclosed,” Assistant Attorney General for National Security John A. Eisenberg said.

In one incident, the pair received an essay draft from a Chinese official via the the WeChat encrypted messaging app in June 2021, being given a directive to push back against an LA Times article about Xinjiang, the Uyghur heartland in China. Within minutes, Wang and Sun published the article on their website, claiming there was no forced labor, including cotton production, in Xinjiang.

In response, the PRC official said, “So fast, thank you everyone.”

Wang also published an article at the direction of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affair in November 2021, according to the DOJ.

Wang resigned from the city council and vacated the position of mayor Monday, according to the website for the city of Arcadia.

As part of the plea agreement, Wang admitted to working for the Chinese government on U.S. soil and not notifying the U.S. government.

Wang’s lawyer released a statement on her behalf, saying in part:

“Events in Ms. Wang’s personal life – including her trust and love for apparently the wrong person who ultimately led her astray – require her to step away from public service… She apologizes and is sorry for the mistakes she has made in her personal life. Her love and devotion for the Arcadia community have not changed and did not waver.”

Sun, Wang’s co-conspirator, is serving a four-year federal prison sentence after he pleaded guilty in October 2025 to acting as an illegal agent of a foreign government.

Wang was expected to plead guilty in the coming weeks after making her initial court appearance in downtown Monday. She could serve a statutory maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison.

Chinese residents make up a big portion of Arcadia, where up to 60% of its population is Asian.

A 3-year-old filly has died after suffering a fall during a race at Saturday’s prestigious Santa Anita Derby — the eighth horse to die from a racing or training injury at the Arcadia track this year, state horse racing officials confirmed Sunday.

Cosmic Heat fell as she jumped onto the downhill track’s dirt crossing during Saturday’s first race. According to the official race chart, she “dropped well off the pace in the early, saved ground around the turn, jumped then fell crossing onto the dirt and was transported off the track via equine ambulance.”

She was euthanized, California Horse Racing Board spokesman Mike Marten told City News Service on Sunday.

Cosmic Heat had six races and one first-place finish in her career.

Considered the premier West Coast prep race for the Kentucky Derby, the annual Santa Anita Derby is a Grade I stakes race for three-year-old thoroughbreds, and serves as a major qualifier for the Triple Crown. It offers a $500,000 purse and is typically run at 1 1/8 miles on dirt.

Santa Anita had 12 racing and training deaths in 2025, 14 in 2024, 17 in 2023, 12 in 2022, 19 in 2021 and 16 in 2020.

Those numbers are a substantial improvement over 2019, when 42 such deaths at Santa Anita Park sparked widespread debate about safety issues in the sport and even drew the attention of state lawmakers. Several changes arose from that controversy include drug reforms, increased veterinary oversight and improvements to racing surfaces.

“No legitimate sport would tolerate these deaths of its athletes in just one state, California, not to mention in a sole venue: Santa Anita Park,” said Martha Sullivan of Kill Racing Not Horses.

However, Amy Zimmerman, Santa Anita’s senior vice president and executive producer, has touted the track’s 99.985% safety rate, which she called “unrivaled among tracks with similar racing and training dates.”

“Last year’s national fatality rate average as reported by Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority is 1.0 out of 1,000 starters, whereas Santa Anita Park’s was 0.148 out of 1,000,” Zimmerman said earlier this year.

An Arcadia mall was placed on lockdown Wednesday evening after someone falsely reported having a firearm.

Police officers received a call just before 5 p.m. from a person who said they had a firearm in their possession and were threatening a customer at the Shops at Santa Anita, according to Crime Stoppers. Following the call, the Arcadia Police Department responded to the scene and placed the shopping plaza under temporary lockdown out of an abundance of caution.

Officers then did a search of the property and determined the call was a hoax. After determining the threat was unfounded, law enforcement lifted the lockdown and normal operations continued at the mall.

No arrests were made in connection with the phony call. Anyone with information on the case is encouraged to contact the Arcadia Police Department at 626-574-5151.

ASICS Los Angeles Marathon: From Dodger Stadium to Avenue of the Stars in Century City, this mega event will welcome thousands of fleet participants, the enthusiastic cheer squads lining the route, and several vibrant off-course happenings, including a weekend-long Lifestyle Expo at Dodgers Stadium, an Oscar-inspired photo spot near the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, and plenty o’ entertainment. Whether you’re running or not, peruse the course map and energetic offerings of the March 8 run-stravaganza.

Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival opens: Stroll through Disney California Adventure Park from March 6 through April 27 and you’ll spy guests dining on unusual and tempting delights, from Ramen Mac & Cheese to Pandan Latte Churros. The annual springtime snack-around spotlights several dishes that boast global inspirations, and a host of one-of-a-kind libations, some made for the grown-up set and others for anyone seeking something fruity and spirits-free. Admission to the Anaheim theme park and a reservation are required.

Dana Point’s mighty Whale Festival: The handsome harbor town is known for its sublime and splashy whale-watching trips, but for a couple of days each March the splashy sights are seen on land, thanks to this long-running cetacean spectacular. The Magical Migration Parade is returning March 7, yay — roadwork meant it didn’t roll in 2025 — and educational talks, kid stuff, and other sealife-sweet activities and events will pop up around the water. It’s no fluke why this fest is venerable: Landlubbers adore it.

Oscar Nominee Spotlights: The 98th Annual Academy Awards will roll out the red carpets in just over a week, but the Academy Museum is getting the glittering goings-on rolling pronto. In-depth discussions focused on animated shorts and feature films, make-up and hairstyling, and other cinematic callings will be considered, celebrated, and basked in by film lovers in the days just ahead. The Oscar-themed goodness is happening through March 14, so be sure to check the schedule.

Barks & Brews: It’s a rompful and rollicking day when a pup gets the cheerful chance to call upon the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden, and one such ebullient opportunity is on the hound-loving horizon. A yearly event dedicated to craft sips and cool canines will frolic at the Arcadia garden March 7, and your (leashed) buddy is invited. There will be vendors, a place for your lil’ guy to sit for a complimentary portrait, and ready-to-adopt pooches from Pasadena Humane, too, to make it all the more meaningful.

What to Know

A Vintage Valentine at the Queen Anne Cottage

Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden

Arcadia

Feb. 14, 2 to 4 p.m.

$60 general public; $55 member

Each ticket holder will receive entry to the Queen Anne Cottage; guests ages 21 and up will also receive two Champagne tickets (“Non-alcoholic beverages available with advance notice)

Articles of clothing that feature oodles of lovely lace are often pulled out of drawers, armoires, and trunks when Valentine’s Day is due, all to give our outfits a little romantic flair and timeless charm.

And while lacy gloves, hankies, and shawls are some of the items we might think of first, there are other finely filigreed favorites that come to mind around Feb. 14.

Take one of Southern California’s laciest landmarks, for example. It’s the Queen Anne Cottage we’re thinking about, a sweet yet stately structure that has graced the grounds of the Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden for decades.

The well-decorated building preceded the opening of the garden, of course — the property’s long-ago owner, Lucky Baldwin, constructed the Queen Anne for his fourth wife — and it remains a favorite of visitors today.

And many of those visitors will be out in festive force to celebrate Sweethearts’ Day at the Arcadian idyll.

A Vintage Valentine at the Queen Anne Cottage will unfurl, like the rolling out of a lacy runner or tablecloth, from 2 to 4 p.m. on Feb. 14.

A look inside the cottage, and bubbly for guests who are 21 and older, are part of the day, as is the opportunity to arrive with your own packed picnic basket and enjoy lunch in the exquisite setting.

The rituals of Victorian courtship will be a flowery focus, and the opportunity to learn more about how bouquets, and the blossoms within, “spoke” their own special code when privacy wasn’t possibly between potential paramours.

Dressing in your bustle-boasting frock or a seersucker suit? That’s encouraged.

You might even choose a lacy look that pays homage to the cottage’s famous flounces and frills. Pull out your parasol and promenade by this site to check out the building for inspiration, and the secure your tickets to the genteel Valentine’s affair.

While January 2026 won’t gift us a Blue Moon event — the chance to savor two full moons in one month — there will be multiple full moon experiences at a local garden in the coming month and year, evening happenings that are all about savoring a serene starlit stroll.

The first of these 2026 full moon outings will take place Jan. 2 and 3, with another popping up Jan. 31, followed by another adventure Feb. 1.

And if the notion of a forest bathing walk, one that is about basking in the beauty of nature after the sun has bid goodbye for the day, feels like the way you’d like to start 2026, be cheered: The Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden will hold a moonlit adventure on the first Friday and Saturday of the new year.

Your ticket will give you entry to one of the nights, do keep in mind, so be sure to check the date when purchasing.

“Our full moon walks begin before sunset, allowing participants to experience the softening of light and sound, the changing sky, and the rising moon,” shares the garden team.

“As darkness falls, we shift from visual focus to subtler senses to guide our exploration.”

The upcoming full moon, the Wolf Moon, will light the first of several nighttime events expected to roll out at the Arcadia destination over the next 12 months.

And while a Blue Moon isn’t due for several years — the next full moon will be in early February, even though there is a Jan. 31 full moon event at the garden — lunar lovers can map out their alfresco 2026 adventures by keeping tabs on the LA Arboretum calendar.

Could you forest bathe at LA Arboretum during every full moon of 2026, from the Wolf Moon of January to the Cold Moon of December?

Call it an uplifting goal for 2026, a resolution that possesses more than a little moon magic and plenty of nature-found joy.

Santa Anita Park racetrack will postpone the opening day of its Classic Meet originally scheduled for Friday due to this week’s rain-heavy weather forecast, track officials announced on Sunday.

The meet will be held next Sunday, Dec. 28.

“With the amount of rain being forecast, it’s important to make this call as early as possible to give everyone advance notice,” Santa Anita General Manager Nate Newby said. “Everyone looks forward to Opening Day as it’s traditionally one of our biggest days of the year, so it’s not a decision we make lightly. But after speaking with our stakeholders, adjusting the racing schedule at this time provides the best opportunity to have a great opening to kick off the season.”

The Arcadia track’s revised opening week schedule has live racing Dec. 28-29, and Dec. 31-Jan. 4.

Southern California is expected to experience four days of occasionally heavy rain beginning Tuesday.

You can bake a cake that’s in the shape of a building, should you want to honor a new home or a landmark’s milestone anniversary.

But finding an entire real-world structure, one that’s quite large, that has an appearance that could be whimsically described as rather “cake-like,” or at least lacy, lovely, and old-fashioned?

That’s also a difficult task, but one that can be successfully completed by making your way to the Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden.

The colossal and cake-y building we’re celebrating? It’s the property’s historic and famous Queen Anne Cottage, that stately home that rose to larger fame in “Fantasy Island” in the 1970s and early ’80s.

The fanciful building, which dates back to the 1880s, will serve as the picturesque focal point of A Victorian Holiday, a three-weekend celebration at the Arcadia garden.

A holiday marketplace will pop up on the lawn near the cottage, with decorations, carolers, and other convivial seasonal touches adding to the atmosphere.

Walk-throughs of the cottage are also part of the event, giving guests a rare chance to admire a home constructed in the 1880s during the era of Lucky Baldwin, the property’s 19th-century owner.

If you simply want to enjoy the lawn scene, that’s included with Arboretum admission. You’ll need a separate ticket, though, to have a look inside the house.

Can’t make it to the old-fashioned event over the final weekend of November or the first two weekends in December?

A few other holiday-themed happenings are on the destination’s schedule, specifically wreath-making workshops.

It’s also a time of year when the garden is looking especially golden in certain areas, a perfect spot to savor the lingering beauty of fall.

Arcadia police requested the public’s help Wednesday in identifying additional potential victims of sexual abuse involving a tutor.

The tutor, identified as Tsungyu Chien, also known as Arnold Chien, was arrested Oct. 21 and charged with several counts related to the sexual abuse of a minor.

Chien is currently under police-ordered house arrest, according to police. On November 3, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed three charges against Chien.

According to authorities, due to Chien’s work as a tutor and his possible contact with minors, they are seeking to determine if there are other victims.

Anyone who may have had inappropriate contact or interactions with the suspect is urged to call the Arcadia Police Department at 626-574-5188 or 626-574-5183. The case number is 2504209.

Investigators were searching Wednesday for a group of armed burglars who they say tied up two people inside an Arcadia home before stealing their jewelry and car.

Arcadia officers responded to a home invasion robbery call just before 1 p.m. on West Foothill Boulevard, near the 210 Freeway.

Four robbery suspects, two of them armed with a knife and a firearm, forced their way into the home through the front door, according to the Arcadia Police Department. Once inside, the four men tied up two people before ransacking the house, leaving with jewelry and the victim’s car.

“This is unlike something we’ve seen before in recent times. It’s very unfortunate. Arcadia is known to be a safe city and a community of homes,” said Lieutenant Ryan Mulhull with Arcadia police.

The victims were able to free themselves and seek help from a bystander outside the home, police said. Both suffered from minor injuries and were treated at the scene by first responders.

“Fortunately, that bystander was there and was able to call the police and we were able to come to the scene quickly,” said Mulhull. “Right now they’re fine, they are obviously shaken up over the incident, but they were treated on the scene by paramedics, and they’re recovering inside the home.”

The stolen vehicle was later found by police abandoned on West Olympic Boulevard near downtown LA.

Anyone with information on the robbery is urged to contact the Arcadia Police Department at 626-574-5151

Burglars broke into an Arcadia jewelry store Friday night after tunneling through the next-door business and cutting through the safe, according to the shop owners.

The burglary at L&Z Jewelry, which has only been in business for about two years, was reported to have happened between Friday night and Saturday morning, police said.

The burglars were able to get into the jewelry shop after gaining access to the next-door business’s roof and tunneling through the walls.

The owners say that thousands of dollars in cash and jewelry were stolen from their safe.

“We lost everything,” said Feihong Zhao, the owner of L&Z Jewelry. “When I opened the front door, I smelled burning … I saw that my safe was cut and saw that the wall had a hole.”

Zhao then says she went through the hole to the business next door, where she noticed the burglars had cut through the roof of the building. She says the burglars were inside for at least four hours.

“They took everything, the jewelry, the chains, also diamonds, everything, rings, they took everything,” said Zhao.

The business owner estimates the thieves stole about half a million in property and an unknown amount of jewelry from customers who brought their items in for repairs. The burglars managed to disable the jewelry store’s alarm system and cameras, so they don’t have any images of the burglars coming in and leaving, police said.

The Arcadia Police Department says that the commercial robbery unit is investigating the incident, which occurred between the night of Oct. 17 and the early morning of Oct. 18, but that they cannot share any further details at this time.

The couple says they started the business recently after years of dreaming of becoming independent.

“We worked hard, we worked for 13 years, we used all our savings to open this shop. We work hard, we work seven days a week, and they just came in and took everything we have,” said Zhao. “Be careful, protect your businesses and your property,”

The chances of a kid passing by a tree or two, or several shrubs, while wandering around a neighborhood on Halloween are pretty good, depending upon where your family likes to go trick-or-treating.

But what if you could enter a verdant world of pure tree-filled joy, a realm filled with grassy expanses, lovely blossoms, and the chirping of various birds and critters, all while enjoying a trick-or-treat scene?

It sounds like a scenario from a charming storybook, but it will come to live at the Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden Oct. 17.

That’s when the leafy Arcadia landmark’s popular Trick-or-Treat in the Garden returns, all to give families the opportunity to savor an ethereal outdoor space while enjoying some of the hallmarks of the haunting holiday.

The afternoon-into-evening happening, which will conclude at 8 p.m., will feature “nature-based” treat stations.

And at every stop? Plant facts will be shared, giving kids a deeper insight into the flora of the historical and sylvan space.

Adding to the natural fun? Stations will feature a plethora of fascinating guest stars, including earthworms and carnivorous plants.

For sure, the tots can dress up in their costumes, maybe giving them an early run ahead of Halloween.

In fact, the Oct. 17 celebration is exactly two weeks before the eerie occasion, which makes it the perfect and pastoral moment to kick off the not-too-frightful fun in a peaceful garden setting.

Members at some levels can enjoy free entry, but everyone should register ahead of time.

While anyone is welcome to call the Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden by its full and proper name, many regulars refer to it as “the Arboretum,” a sweet and simple shorthand for an expansive place.

But some of the garden’s fans might be inclined to call it by its other name, or at least a special handle it assumes a couple of times each year: The Arf-oretum.

We are, of course, talking about our canine friends, and the fact that Fidos can call upon the leafy Arcadia-based destination every now and then, when a special event is afoot.

Or four-foot, rather. And such an event is trotting into view Oct. 4, when Barks & Boos returns to The Arf-oretum for a dogly day of cute costumes, easy strolling, and a dog costume contest.

Presented by fera pets, the annual fall event will include a visit from Pasadena Humane, which means that, yes, adoptable cuties will be in the house (or in the garden, we do mean).

Mt. Lowe Brewing Company will be there, and food trucks, too, and an agility course if your pooch wants to give it a go.

Humans will need to purchase admission to enter the LA Arboretum and your pup? The entry fee for a dog is $10.

Read up on all you need to know — dogs will need to be leashed, for starters — then start thinking of the most creative canine costumes that would suit your honeybun.

Perhaps something inspired by the famous garden? A pup dressed as a peacock? Or maybe a beautiful flower?

A Los Angeles man was arrested for stealing copper wire from the city of Arcadia, causing the temporary interruption of 911 calls, the Arcadia Police Department said Thursday.

Police said, during the early hours of Aug. 7, 2025, the Arcadia Police Department’s communications center experienced a system failure, which prevented dispatchers from receiving 911 calls.

Officials urgently implemented “redundant measures” to make sure public safety services were not interrupted, police said.

But as investigators were trying to determine the source of the 911 call outage, they discovered some of the underground communication lines were missing in the area of South Santa Anita Avenue near Huntington Drive. Police said someone had cut 60 feet of copper wire, and the missing parts led to the outage.

The stolen metal parts and repairs cost the city of Arcadia about $10,000, police said.

Following several weeks of investigative work, police determined 44-year-old Jose Gante-Gomez and his car were connected to the copper wire theft.

On Wednesday, officers located Gante-Gomez and his car in the Pico-Union area and attempted a traffic stop. The suspect refused to comply and ran away from officers on foot before ultimately getting arrested, police said.

Gante Gomez is facing grand theft and resisting a peace officer charges.

Anyone with information on this incident is encouraged to contact the Arcadia Police Department at (626) 574-5151, case number 2503099.

Police were called several times over the past few years to an Arcadia house where 21 children, many from surrogate mothers, had been living before they were taken into protective custody earlier this month, according to new documents obtained by NBCLA.

A man and woman who live at the home were arrested in May and released as detectives look into allegations of child abuse. Police responded to at least six 911 calls at the San Gabriel Valley home since January 2022, according to the documents obtained through a records request. Police may have responded to more 911 calls, but several calls were redacted from the documents.

Police centered in on the property after receiving a child abuse allegation in May. During the investigation, detectives discovered that nearly two dozen children, from 2 months to 13 years old, had been living inside the home.

Some of the 21 children were born through different surrogates, police said. Police have said they are investigating whether the children found at the home were part of a surrogacy scam.

One year ago Friday, police responded to a welfare check at the home, according to the documents obtained by NBCLA. The records also indicated there were calls from people who suspected an illegal business was operating at the property.

Arcadia police said the home was set up like a school. Cameras seized from the property showed the children being emotionally and physically abused by at least six nannies, according to law enforcement. Authorities said the video showed a nanny violently shaking and striking the hospitalized infant on May 5, resulting in a loss of consciousness.

An arrest warrant also was issued for a 56-year-old nanny.

<excerpt>An Arcadia couple was arrested after a child abuse investigation led to the discovery of more than 20 children, some born to surrogate mothers, at their home.</excerpt>

A couple was arrested in connection with a child abuse investigation that led authorities to their Arcadia, California, home, where they found more than 20 young children, some of whom were birthed by surrogate mothers, according to police.

Police said they are investigating whether the children found at the home in the San Gabriel Valley east of Los Angeles were part of a surrogacy scam. The home’s residents — Silvia Zhang, 38, and Guojun Xuan, 65 — were released from custody, pending further investigation, authorities said.

It is not clear how many children at the home were born to surrogate mothers, but one of the mother was found in Texas by a bioethics watchdog group. The woman said she was misled into thinking her child was the only child who would be taken in at the Arcadia residence.

Kallie Fell, executive director of the nonprofit Center for Bioethics & Culture Network, said she spoke with the Texas woman named Kayla. Kayla said she was told she’d be helping a couple struggling to have a child, but was later shocked when she learned that wasn’t the case.

“It was her first time being a surrogate mother,” Fell said. “The baby that she birthed, she is trying to get custody now. She was told by the intended parents that she was their only surrogate mother, that they had one child…”

Zhang and Xuan, who are listed as the legal parents of the infant Kayla carried, were arrested after a local hospital called police to investigate the case of a 2-month-old baby who arrived at their care with head injuries. The baby’s condition has improved, but the long-term prognosis is unclear.

After the child abuse report, officers arrived at the couple’s Arcadia home and discovered 15 children whose ages ranged from 2 months to 13 years. An additional six children connected to the couple were found in the care of family and friends.

“We have been in contact with the FBI,” said Lt. Kollin Cieadlo. “We are working with them. When we first were out there, we recognized this as going to be something beyond the scope of our local investigative abilities so we reached out fairly quickly to them.”

The children in the home were taken into protective custody, police said.

NBCLA reached out to the FBI Los Angeles Field Office for comment.

The baby was not hospitalized until two days later after the onset of seizures, Arcadia police said.

Arrest warrants were issued for Zhang, Xuan and the 56-year-old nanny, who was not in custody Wednesday. Zhang and Xuan were booked on suspicion of felony child endangerment/neglect. Bail was set at $500,000 apiece.

“There are no laws against hiring multiple surrogate mothers at a time,” Fell said. “… but as we can see, this case highlights inherent dangers of commercial surrogacy.”

The infant that Kayla birthed is in foster care. She’s currently working on gaining custody of the baby.

It was not immediately clear how many other surrogate mothers gave birth to children at the home and how they ended up at the residence.

“That’ll be part of the long-term investigation to see the origins of where these children were all born, contact those surrogate mothers, see what the backstory is on that,” Cieadlo said. “And again, that will be something that we work with our federal partners because we believe this extends beyond our city limits, possibly through the rest of the country, even internationally.”

The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services released a statement Wednesday morning.

“The safety and well-being of children in Los Angeles County is the highest priority for the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS),” the DCFS said. “When our agency receives a call to the Child Protection Hotline concerning allegations of child maltreatment, our social workers conduct a thorough investigation and work closely with families to address issues that may negatively impact child safety and well-being. If abuse or neglect is confirmed and a child cannot remain safely at home, children may be required to move in with family members, close family friends or a foster family until their parents may regain custody.”

The agency said it is bound by state confidentiality laws that prevent the department from discussing potential involvement with families.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the Arcadia Police Department at 626-574-5168.

NBCLA’s Jonathan Lloyd contributed to this report.

What to Know

Plumeria Festival

Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden

Friday, July 18 from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, July 19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Included with garden admission

Pink-toned summer sunsets truly have no rival, but a petal of a plumeria, with its deep pinky hue and cream-rich accents, might be thought of as a sunset in flower form.

If you’ve ever longed to see the evening sky depicted in the colors of a blossom, and an especially aromatic blossom at that, you’ll want to lay down some roots at the Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden July 18 and 19.

A party in honor of the garden’s gorgeous famous plumeria flowers will add a scentful and celebratory note to the afternoon and evening of the 18th and the morning and midday of July 19.

The highlight for many plumeria people will be the chance to commune with the colorful specimens, something that will be quite easy to do: LA Arboretum is home to “over 100 trees,” a number that delights and astounds.

Vendors — over 20 in all — will be on the grounds during the annual Plumeria Festival, and plumeria pros will discuss the flower of the hour.

Look for food trucks, tunes, and chances to stroll the sublime sylvan space, a place that is well-plumeria’d in the high summer. But there are other blossoms, shrubs, and growing things to admire, and, of course, all of those pretty peacocks and noble turtles that call the Arcadia destination home.

Your arboretum admission is all that is required to join the joyful and plumeria-packed festivities.

By the by, LA Arboretum is home to “… the largest public collection…” of plumeria “… in the western continental United States.”

It’s a tropical titan that reigns regally in the hearts of those who adore it. Other florid favorites, like staghorn ferns, will also be in the spotlight, making this sunny celebration a “plum” of a party for garden mavens, nature lovers, and devoted flower fans.

Police have released surveillance photos of a man suspected of burglarizing a home in Arcadia and stealing $125,000 worth of luxury goods.

The burglary was reported last Saturday on Lovell Avenue in Arcadia near Duarte Road when the resident of the home saw the master bedroom ransacked.

“When we arrived, we met the victim and discovered the rear window had been shattered,” Lt. Ryan Mulholl with the Arcadia Police Department told NBC Los Angeles Tuesday.

Investigators believe the burglar made away with $125,000 worth of designer handbags, a watch and a handgun.

Police said the man was described to be a thin-build man with shaggy between ages 20 and 30.

Mulholl urged people to secure their homes and have surveillance cameras under good lighting.

“The neighborhood watch program is a really good program to get started in,” he said. ”If you see something, say something.”

The top of the year, if you’re looking at six months to the middle of the calendar and six months back down, falls right about where June and July meet.

That moment can be a magical and moving time, especially if you make plans to spend it in a peaceful way outdoors, among trees and flowers and even the occasional peacock.

Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden is inviting people impacted by the January fires to come spend a relaxing day in the sunshine, no admission required.

The Arcadia-based garden is hosting a Free Community Day June 29, and everyone is welcome.

That said, you’ll need to RSVP in advance, as the event is sure to be popular.

The uplifting occasion is presented by the Georgina Frederick Children’s Foundation and will include opportunities to stroll across the vast and spacious destination.

It is indeed big — some 127 acres — but you’ll never be too far from a peacock, or at least within range of a peacock’s singular cry. The birds are synonymous with LA Arboretum and, if you’re in the right spot, you just might see some fancy feathers on display.

And speaking of peacocks, the Peacock Café will be open.

Opportunities to admire raptors, scavenger hunts, and chances to hang a fervent hope on the Wish Tree are also pleasant possibilities.

The fact that the word “go” can be made from the letters found in the word “Corgi” makes so much sense, especially if you’ve ever seen one of these power-packing pooches run for a favorite ball or toy.

It’s no secret that these strength-packing sweethearts love to lay down some pawprints in fast fashion, all to stretch a leg, release some energy, and dash in the direction of the humans they adore.

It’s a speedy sight that will be on darling display at Santa Anita Park when the Summer Corgi Nationals trots back into our Corgi-obsessed worlds.

If you’d like to behold this shaggy and sweet spectacle in person, be trackside May 25 for all of the awww-inducing action.

Food trucks are part of the scene, and opportunities to shop for dog goods, too; find out more about tickets and attending the showdown, which includes a “Corgi-Centric Vendor Village,” here.

There are a few things to know before you go to Arcadia — if your Corgi comes with, you’ll need to show a vaccination record — so study up before the pup party takes to the track.

Southern California is home to a bunnyful bevy of bouncing bashes each spring, the Easter-themed and season-inspired events that brim with egg hunts, effervescent crafts, and the occasional light bite.

But finding a festivity that isn’t a morning thing?

That isn’t always a cinch or a snap. Of course, early-in-the-day spring celebrations are always a delight, but locating an Easter outing closer to nighttime, for those who wish to revel later in the afternoon, can be rather challenging come April.

As always, the Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden senses that we’re longing to lark-it-up in the pretty Arcadia spot as the sun goes down.

And the sun-dappled destination’s annual “Spring Fling” has long been a popular way to savor twilight and Easter activities at the same time.

Hop by the historical spread April 18 — that’s a Friday, also a bit unusual — for three hours of holiday diversions.

An egg scramble is on the schedule — eggs will not be scrambled in a pan, no sir, but rather tots will go on egg hunts with provided baskets — and the Bunny World Foundation will pop by to give us all of the rabbit information we seek.

The Peacock Bar will be open, and a few festive cocktails will be on the menu, including the Berry Springy, which features both blueberries and tequila, as well as some other zingy additions.

Tunes, special guests, and other convivial details that just feel April-ish will up the airy atmosphere.

This is a popular to-do, given its offbeat time of day and date, and, of course, the beauty and timeless allure of the vast garden.

Do make your reservation ahead of time for an afternoon-into-evening outside affair, something that doesn’t always hop into our worlds when Easter is near.

What a savory and sup-worthy way to start springtime: By reveling in the happy revelation that a major foodie to-do will be back in the months ahead, all to deliver a vibrant assortment of dining and entertainment experiences.

Hello again, 626 Night Market, we are so glad to see you.

You’ve brought the joyful atmosphere and deep deliciousness of the night markets found across Asia to Southern and Northern California, all to give thousands of guests the chance to eat, sip, and soak in all sorts of cool, photo-worthy, and memory-making sights.

The team behind the warm-weather sup-around spectaculars made the location reveals, along with dates, on the first day of spring 2025.

626 Night Market will return to Arcadia — the event’s San Gabriel Roots can be seen in the “626” part of its name — over Fourth of July Weekend, with more dates to follow. You’ll head to Santa Anita Park over two July 2025 weekends, if you’d like to snack it up, and two August weekends, with the final happening set for Aug. 29-31.

Orange County and Bay Area dates are also on the roster. The first 626 of the season will pop up at the Alameda County Fairgrounds from May 2-4, while Costa Mesa will get its first delicious meet-up from May 30-June 1.

All of the dates and places may be found here, along with a lead on the event’s BOGO ticket deal (it’s happening for a limited time, as many buy-one-get-offers do).

What will you enjoy first when arrive at this appetizing summertime tradition? A spiral potato, a super-stuffed arepa, a fruity milk tea, a ramen burger, or a crispy chicken sandwich boasting a toothsome bao bun?

The vendor line-up will be unveiled in the coming weeks, with all sorts of palate-tempting promise in tow.

For now, you’ll want to explore BOGO-ing it, ticket-wise, with a friend, and planning which 626 Night Markets you’ll call upon in 2025.

Maybe all of them? Talk about a cuisine-centered California road trip of the tastiest kind.

The search is underway for the intruder who shot and killed a father in his own home in Arcadia Tuesday night, according to detectives with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department.

The incident happened on the 50 block of Woodland Lane in Arcadia at around 6:26 p.m. The LASD was on the scene to assist the Arcadia Police Department.

According to the LASD, a woman and her 13-year-old had just arrived home when a stranger forced them into the home. The intruder shot the 61-year-old father in the stomach in a back room.

The victim’s 13-year-old son called 911 and informed police his father had been shot. The father was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The connection between the gunman and the father was not immediately known. According to LASD Lieutenant Steve Dejong, the attack may have been targeted.

Multiple weapons were found inside of the home, it’s unclear who they belonged to.

NewsChopper4 was over the scene Tuesday night where what appeared to be a gun was spotted on the floor through the window of the home.

“There were a couple of weapons in the house. We don’t know at this time if they belonged to the suspect or the family. It is our understanding that possibly the deceased male may have armed himself and attempted to defend himself. We are still trying to determine that,” said Dejong.

The woman and teen were unharmed. Detectives added that nothing had been taken from the home.

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500

What to Know

Barks & Brews, presented by Fera Pets

Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden

Sunday, March 9; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Included with garden admission; entry for dogs is $10 per pup

Beers from Mt. Lowe Brewing Company will be available for purchase, and light bites, too

Dogs must remain on their leashes; an adoption pop-up and agility course are part of the pooch-themed fun

The Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden is many things: A place of history, a place of beauty, and a mountain-close wonderland of full of movie locations, floral splendor, and verdant, shady spots made for daydreaming.

Oh yes: And there’s the Arcadia destination’s inherent romp-a-bility quality, a sort of effervescent vibe that can instill a normally rompless human with the desire to frolic, twirl, and lightly indulge in the art of the romp.

Visitors aren’t usually that romp-forward at LA Arboretum — there is decorum to abide by, of course, and we don’t want to ruffle the garden’s superstars, its famous flock of peacocks, with romping — but the garden designates one afternoon each year for the ultimate rompers: dogs.

True, dogs aren’t usually permitted at the 127-acre green space, but the sunny-of-spirit and sunny-of-sunshine Barks & Brews, a fundraiser presented by Fera Pets, is the uplifting exception.

Pups and their people will be gently romping for a cause, or two good causes, March 9: Helping Pasadena Humane and the Arboretum Foundation.

Your LA Arboretum admission gets you into the give-back get-together, while a dog’s entry is priced at $10.

A mobile adoption pop-up will pair pooches with their future people, while an agility course will give rompers a place to stretch a leg (or four).

Good to know? Dogs must be leashed, so while the romping spirit will be high, your pup will need to stick close to your side during this special garden day.

And special, it definitely is: The LA Arboretum has dog-park-y vibes, especially around some of its open spaces, but it is not usually a place for pooches to perambulate.

Except on this merry day, March 9, which is all about good vibes, pet rescue, fine brews, and some sweet hours at one of SoCal’s leafiest locations.
