SHAH ALAM - World Cup winner Mesut Özil, a man who once owned a car collection including a Ferrari 458 Italia and a Mercedes G63 AMG, was spotted riding in a humble Perodua Myvi during his visit to Pangkor Island this week.

In a video shared across social media, Özil was seen leaving the vicinity of Masjid Al-Badr on the island, flanked by a heavily guarded entourage that included Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.

He was then ushered into a purple Myvi driven by Zambry himself.

The former Arsenal and Real Madrid playmaker is currently in Malaysia for a series of youth development summits and football clinics.

But it was the TikTok video of him in Malaysia's iconic hatchback, often dubbed the "King of the Road", that sent social media into a frenzy.

Netizens quickly flooded the comments section with witty remarks, many "predicting" that the value of the specific model would skyrocket to supercar levels.

"First it was the world stage, now it's Pulau Pangkor in a Myvi. This man has truly completed football," one user commented.

Another joked: "Sellers are already typing: 'Myvi for sale, Özil spec, rare edition, RM100k non-negotiable'."

The 37-year-old has been in Malaysia since last Sunday, attending the Malaysia-Türkiye Leadership Summit 2026 and meet-and-greet sessions in Penang.

On April 29, he visited Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), where he also admitted to a newfound love for spicy Malaysian food.

Özil is scheduled to wrap up his visit with a football clinic in Perak
