Patrick Ryan is a senior entertainment reporter with USA TODAY covering movies and awards season. He has spoken to Hollywood legends from Barbra Streisand to Julie Andrews, and interviewed countless Oscar winners including Martin Scorsese, Meryl Streep, Frances McDormand, Daniel Day-Lewis, and Cate Blanchett. He has hung out on Hollywood Boulevard with the stars of “Anora,” grabbed dinner with Michael Keaton, and wandered the Met’s Roman art exhibit with Paul Giamatti.
Since Patrick started at USA TODAY in 2013, his reporting has taken him to the Oscars and Grammys, as well as film festivals including Sundance and Cannes. He was in the courtroom covering the high-profile trials of Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby and Sean “Diddy” Combs, and he has written extensively about the allegations against Michael Jackson and Russell Simmons.
Patrick is also USA TODAY’s Broadway critic, reviewing and spotlighting a variety of plays and musicals throughout the year. He is a member of GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics.
He has worn many hats in his time at USA TODAY: visiting the sets of TV shows including “Better Call Saul” and “Broad City,” and writing music features that have garnered the attention of Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga and Ye on social media. He studied journalism and film studies at Arizona State University, and is based in New York City.
