Loved sharing the stage with Kim Boyd, MD (Weight Watchers), Kai Eberhardt (Oviva), Dr Earim Chaudry (Voy) and Dennis Ballwieser (Apotheken Umschau) to discuss the "Ozempidemic" and the rising tide of weight-loss interventions. Katharina Schild hat dies geteiltFull circle moment - Years after my internship, I had the pleasure of returning to the blue couch at KPMG Deutschland to discuss transactions, investment dynamics and where value is being created right now. A big thank you to the KPMG team for having me - especially Claus Buhmann and Gernot Bürger for the candid conversation. Some of the key points we discussed: ▸ 𝗔𝗜 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗯𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿. Every company is becoming a tech company. AI isn’t just creating a new industry, it’s redefining every existing one, from infrastructure to end-user-application. Deployment velocity and depth of integration are what separate category leaders. ▸ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Most enterprise pilots never reach full-scale deployment - leaving enormous value trapped in proof-of-concepts. The defining opportunity is closing the gap between AI ambition and real operational integration. Those who bridge it will capture disproportionate value. ▸ 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆'𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗮𝘁 – 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗴𝗮𝗽𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻. A powerful industrial base with high-density domain expertise and engineering depth under enormous economic pressure creates real demand to innovate. But we urgently need to catch up on the structural challenges to support what comes next: AI needs energy, compute and semiconductors. ▸ 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀. Valuations are no longer carried by top-line momentum alone. Retention and defensibility are the real signals. Companies commanding premium multiples have AI embedded at the core with proprietary data, workflow lock-in and network effects that compound. They price on outcomes and prove measurable ROI fast. Alice a été la toute première salariée de SISTAFUND. Depuis le premier jour, elle a porté, construit et façonné cette aventure à mes côtés, avec son énergie, son sérieux et une loyauté sans faille. C’était absolument génial de vivre toutes ces premières fois avec toi : nos premiers comités d’investissement, nos premières levées de fonds, nos premières victoires… et tous les défis que nous avons appris à surmonter ensemble. Nous avons énormément travaillé, énormément appris et surtout tellement ri ! Lisbonne, Bagnolet 😂, nos apéros désespérés et nos cafés joyeux… Tant de merveilleux souvenirs ! Trotz aller Herausforderungen glaube ich immer noch so sehr an unser Land. Ich halte den transformativen Wandel durch KI für eine historische Chance, um eine lebenswertere Zukunft für uns alle zu gestalten. Es braucht jetzt Mut für den Wandel, Ambition für das Große und den eisernen Willen, hart für den Fortschritt und unsere Sicherheit zu arbeiten. 1) Zugang zu den stärksten globalen KI-Modellen und die Ambition, eigene Spitzenmodelle aufzubauen sowie die Expertise führender Gründer, Wissenschaftler und Anwender in Expertengremien inkludieren 2) Drastischer Ausbau von Rechenkapazitäten in Europa 3) Mobilisierung von Kapital aus Versicherungen und Altersvorsorge für die Zukunft - 1% des BIP in Wachstum unserer innovativsten Unternehmen investieren 4) Dynamischen Wandel ermöglichen, der unweigerlich kommen wird - ob wir es wollen oder nicht - und Existenzen anstatt von Stellen sichern: Reform des Arbeitsrechts und Kündigungsschutzes 5) Eine konkrete Vision erarbeiten, wie KI den Alltag der Bürgerinnen und Bürger spürbar verbessert Ich habe meine Rede mit den folgenden Worten beendet: Ich bin als Kind eines nigerianischen Einwanderers in einer Plattenbausiedlung in München aufgewachsen. Deutschland ist der größte Markt Europas und Europa der zweitgrößte Markt der Welt. Jetzt ist es an uns, diese Geschichte fortzuschreiben.

It's time for another installment of our series #VCSummerCamp. Investment Manager Anna Stetter, who spends a signifcant share of her time with pitch decks, shares two honest reflections. On decks: "It's true that form follows function, but form does matter. A clean, well-designed deck consistently outperforms one where the tech is stronger but the storytelling falls flat. Solid content is the baseline. Beyond that: make it look good, make it coherent, make it tell a story. And if people with no industry background cannot understand what you do, go back to the slides." On recharging: "What actually helps me reset is nature, with no agenda and some quite time. Either that or time with people from completely different fields. The conversations are energising in a way that most industry events simply are not. Both things teach the same lesson, really: clarity and perspective do not come from going deeper into what you already know. Sometimes you have to step all the way out." What's your version of that? Money, status, optionality. This is not a bad thing. But as a founder you need to be brutally aware. You need to see the matrix before it subsumes you. Sometimes incentives work in your favour and push everyone towards a common north star. Sometimes they don't. The big misalignments are easy. You see them coming. It's the micro-incentives that quietly diverge. The sales rep paid on signing, not on go-live. The engineer rewarded for shipping, not for what breaks later. The investor whose fund timeline is not your company timeline. None of these people are wrong. They are responding to their setup. Your job is to design the setup so that individual wins and joint success are the same thing. And where you can't, at least know where the gaps are.

Germany's startup scene just shifted dramatically. And nobody saw this coming. How I see the Q4's VC landscape: The headlines sayVC funding dropped 28% year-over-year. But that's not the full picture. Here's what actually happened in Q4: → AI dominated with 35 deals → Berlin raised $420 million across 33 deals → Munich's Tubulis closed a massive €343 million round → HTGF led 6 investments → Stonepeak made the biggest PE move The truth? Innovation didn't slow down. It just got smarter. Money flowed to proven models. Late-stage rounds got bigger. Early-stage deals got pickier. Three things surprised me most: 1. Freiburg and Gilching became unexpected hotspots 2. North Rhine-Westphalia showed serious momentum 3. Private equity stayed active with 12 acquisitions I don't see a slowdown. I see a reset. Good founders are still getting funded. Good ideas are still winning.

January 2026 has been an intense month for HealthTech and AI, in both Europe and the US. I wrote down a few thoughts. 1️⃣ 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐄𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐲 As an ambassador for the Healthcare Business International conference (March 24–26 in Paris), my role is to bring HealthTech companies that are relevant for PE investors. In practice, this means companies that are profitable (or close to profitability) and generating at least double-digit revenues. There is a growing number of #HealthTech companies meeting these criteria. The ongoing M&A wave will further accelerate this trend. 2️⃣ 𝐔𝐒 𝐁𝐢𝐠 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐝 Over the last 5+ years, the US Big Tech players dominating #healthcare headlines were Google, Amazon, Apple, and Microsoft. Today, the most visible names are Claude (Anthropic) and ChatGPT (OpenAI). A key challenge for US Big Tech has always been interoperability. LLMs from Anthropic and OpenAI are changing the game. By combining LLMs with MCP (instead of APIs), unstructured data from multiple systems can be made “fit for purpose.” This is a major shift for interoperability, reducing the need for highly structured integration layers. 3️⃣ 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞: 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐧 𝐮𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦 Sana, a leading German provider, choosing Stackit is an interesting signal. However, Europe is still lagging on two critical layers of the AI stack: ◾Cloud, where European providers are generally less performant and often more expensive than US hyperscalers (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud). ◾LLMs, where the only truly competitive European model is Mistral (France). But there is some hope. Traditional cloud infrastructure can be replaced by a more modular approach: sourcing compute, middleware, and services separately. This allows embedding as many European components as possible while still leveraging advanced US cloud services and retaining strategic control. For LLMs, European sovereignty will depend on open-source models winning against closed-source ones. Today, the largest open-source LLMs are Mistral (France), DeepSeek (China), and Meta (US). But Meta appears to be moving back toward closed source.
