Nomination for deletion of Template:LFP Ligue 1

[edit]

Template:LFP Ligue 1 has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the entry on the Templates for discussion page. Nobody (talk) 07:32, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Zyxw, I've also found some links not using the template that are also broken now. Here is the search, if you want to fix those too. Nobody (talk) 10:26, 8 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@1AmNobody24: Thanks, I will take a look at that. -- Zyxw (talk) 10:27, 8 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Notice

The article Thoboki Mohohlo has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unable to find any independent WP:SIGCOV for this WP:BLP to meet the WP:GNG.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Let'srun (talk) 20:14, 20 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I think instead of adding {{FIBA}} and {{FIBA3x3}}, it would be simpler to instead add {{Sports links}}. Also, I removed some of the Instagram links you have added per WP:NOSOCIAL. Dieter Lloyd Wexler 21:52, 21 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Zyxw.. Recently trying to import the template:Sports links and associated modules. I am getting error "Lua error in Module:External_links at line 936: bad argument #1 to 'ipairs' (table expected, got nil)." Can you help me to resolve this issue. Would be of much help. IMDb as a reference

[edit]

Hey, per WP:IMDB, IMDb links should not be used as reference. An edit like this replacing the IMDb template with a cite web template isn't helpful. Instead it should be replaced with a {{Citation needed}} template. Gonnym (talk) 10:49, 1 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello. Instead of this and this you should just update the WTA and ITF templates. What you are doing is impractical. And regarding the BJK Cup profiles, we can just wait until they re-appear. --Moscow Connection (talk) 14:14, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

P. S. I've checked, and the WTA and ITF templates work as intended. What is the point of your edits, then? --Moscow Connection (talk) 14:14, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The point was to remove the "Player Name career statistics" articles from Wikidata tracking categories (such as had already been done for the ITF template in some of the articles).
While I was doing that, I also fixed a few non-working ITF links. Finally, the BJK Cup profiles do not appear to be coming back with the old ID numbers, instead there are new IDs for players in the BJK Cup since 2024 and the information for 2023 and earlier can only be found at the archived links (for examples, see Template:Billie Jean King Cup player which I recently updated to handle the new ID format). -- Zyxw (talk) 14:31, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I'm a bit confused too. All these players had templates for ITF, WTA, FedCup that all seemed to be working, such as this this edit where all templates disappeared. Why removed the templates when it's usually easier to fix things at a single template than at every single player article. Fyunck(click) (talk) 17:59, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

And you added some pretty much useless templates also. There has been discussions about those external links being overbloated and about a 5 limit cutoff. Fyunck(click) (talk) 18:14, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks and a request

[edit]

Thank you for resolving the URL display issue in Infobox person/Wikidata template. If you have time to look at another related issue, it would be appreciated. Using Wikidata generated infoboxes, I have not been able to determine how to prevent the inadvertent display of a duplicate entry under "Alma mater" when a person has more than one degree from the same institution (e.g., Francine M. Benes or Stefanos Sinos). I suppose that it would be fine to list multiple degrees from the same institution, but as the details and year might be needed to do this well, it is probably a more complex task. Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 08:59, 22 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Cl3phact0: I replied under your post at Template talk:Infobox person/Wikidata § Duplicate display of information to show an example of what Stefanos Sinos would it would look like if all qualifiers for each entry in Wikidata property educated at (P69) were displayed. -- Zyxw (talk) 07:28, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This looks promising, thank you. I'm certainly curious to see what others think. It's also very helpful to see how you make these improvements (and how straightforward it seems to be for someone who has these skills). I'm optimistic that this can help bring more editors to the realisation that it's better to refine and master Wikipedia/Wikidata integration than to abandon it (which, as another editor has pointed out, only serves to "disimprove" Wikipedia). Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 10:11, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Although I have edited a lot of templates and some modules over the years, I am also figuring some of this out as I go along. For example, with educated at (P69) for |alma_mater= in {{Infobox person/Wikidata/sandbox}}, when I added |qual=ALL to {{#invoke:WikidataIB|GetValue}}, I just copied that from how award received (P166) is used for |awards=. It was a faster solution than trying to figure out how to remove the duplicates (I'm sure there is some way to do that, but it might require adding new Lua code to the Module:WikidataIB). -- Zyxw (talk) 15:18, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Noted. What's clear from what you're showing is that some (and maybe even most) of the problems that editors experience using Wikidata infoboxes (and probably other things that the data is used for in enwiki) are not inherent flaws, but rather bugs and irregularities that can be fixed with a bit of trial and error. Obviously, if the information in the dataset is wrong, no amount of reworking the template code here can fix that, but the other side of the coin is that by using the data, apart from potentially making Wikipedia (and the whole project) better, we can also help correct any errors we do spot on the Wikidata side. -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 16:01, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
PS: Unfortunately, template editing and Lua coding are out of my wheelhouse at this point. I'll need to learn some new tricks before attempting either, but the value of those skills to the project is clearly huge. -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 16:03, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Jean Rondeau (musician)

[edit]

In my change for Jean Rondeau (musician), I explained that infobox person is better for classical people in music, - it provides a welcome tool to see at a glance if someone works in classical music or not. There have been project discussions. Please consider, compare Daniel Barenboim, for example. - I personally prefer it just for the cleaner look, without a distracting coloured header. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:46, 24 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Gerda Arendt:. That's fine, I really don't have an opinion about one infobox being better than another. I edited that article because it was in Category:Pages using infobox person with unknown parameters. The unknown parameter was |genre=, which is available in {{Infobox musical artist}}. I just went back and reverted it to Infobox person, with the unsupported parameter commented out. -- Zyxw (talk) 08:52, 24 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Updating Template:Fortunaliga.sk

[edit]

Hi, thanks for creating Template:Fortunaliga.sk. I noticed that since the change of league sponsor, all these links are going to the gambling website and not to the player profile pages. The manual change needed for the template text is to replace fortunaliga.sk with nikeliga.sk, which is a simple enough change, but it seems that the template name, and Wikidata property P7530 should be adjusted too. Can you take care of this? C679 04:01, 14 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Cloudz679: Done and thanks for the heads up. The template and the Wikidata property now use the nikeliga.sk URL. I renamed both to match the name of the associated article Slovak First Football League, so they will not need to be renamed every time there is a new sponsor or website. -- Zyxw (talk) 09:34, 14 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. After my first message I was thinking of switching to a more generic template title so glad we are aligned on that. From one betting shop to another! Thanks once again, C679 14:25, 14 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Ryukyu Islands

[edit]

Hi, with the location pin maps, is it possible you could switch the one for Ryukyu Islands to File:Ryukyu Islands.svg ? The current one has a big map of Japan and demotes the islands to a small bit at the side and makes no sense geographically. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:07, 11 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The article for Ryukyu Islands uses {{Infobox islands}} to display File:Location of the Ryukyu Islands.JPG. Below that it automatically displayed a pushpin map based on the coordinates (via Module:Infobox mapframe). What I saw there was a map with a large blue pushpin centered on Okinawa Island. Not sure why you saw something different. I don't think the pushpin map was very useful in that article, so I updated the infobox parameter names to prevent it from being displayed. If you feel that File:Ryukyu Islands.svg is a better image than File:Location of the Ryukyu Islands.JPG for article's infobox, just replace
|image_map = Location of the Ryukyu Islands.JPG
with
|image_map = Ryukyu Islands.svg

  • {{clc|CATEGORY|TYPE}}

About the "TYPE" parameters , is there any magic word that can only count numbers of article pages, not user , template pages etc ?

Thank you. Comrade John (talk) 04:48, 14 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Comrade John: No, since {{CLC}} uses PAGESINCATEGORY and that has no option for only counting articles. However, for a tracking category which is added via a template, you can make the template only add the category to articles via {{Main other}} or similar. -- Zyxw (talk) 05:20, 14 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
