Varanasi becomes India’s first city to get solar panel system installed between railway tracks

India’s 1st 70m removable solar panel system was commissioned by Banaras Locomotive Works, boosting green railways. The solar system consists of 28 high-efficiency panels generating 15KW power between railway tracks. This innovative system is designed to be easily removed for track maintenance, ensuring operational flexibility. With adequate sunlight, 70m removable solar panel system can generate up to 80 units of electricity daily. The 70m setup showcases a blend of sustainability and engineering by utilizing unused track space for energy generation. The solar panels will power BLW facilities, reducing dependency on conventional energy and cutting emissions. Indian Railways moves a step closer to its net-zero carbon emissions target with this clean energy initiative.
