As part of a commitment to significantly reduce its environmental footprint and impact on the planet, the resort is constantly undertaking green initiatives under the aegis of IHG® Journey to Tomorrow. Phasing out the use of plastic in its daily operations, guestroom amenities are packed in paper boxes, F&B outlets use biodegradable straws, while drinking water is served in glass bottles filled from the resort water plant. The InterContinental® Phuket Resort was the first on the island to introduce a green alternative to the plastic room keycards – RFID-enabled wooden cards. The linen and towel reuse program allows guests to do their bit in reducing the consumption of water, energy, and detergent.

LEED® Gold Certification
Certified LEED® Gold by the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) programme. The LEED® Green Building Rating System includes six major environmental categories: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality and Innovation and Design. The aim is to help building owners and operators be environmentally responsible and use resources efficiently.
Maximized Indoor Air Quality
The well-being of guests in an indoor environment is improved with fresh air supply, natural light, refreshing views of the outdoors, and dust and chemical control. Low-emitting materials, including paints, coatings, adhesives, sealants, and flooring materials have been used to maximise human health and protect the indoor environment. Additionally, the resort has strict ‘no smoking policy enforced in all building spaces and outdoor air units are equipped with MERV 13-rated filters to prevent PM2.5 particulate dust.
Sustainable Site & Materials
The resort mitigates the impact of rising temperatures of its surroundings by maximising green spaces, green roofs, providing shaded parking spaces and using sun-reflective landscape materials. Landfill waste is minimised with a centralised waste area that is used to sort out and harvest recyclable waste such as glass, paper, plastic, aluminium and food before the scheduled collection.
Energy Strategies
Energy conservation strategies are in place throughout all the buildings and services with energy-efficient air-conditioning systems, effective windows and low-energy roof & wall insulation. Optimised with the use of 100% LED bulbs, motion sensor control in the back-of-house areas and dimming control in public spaces. The target for the resort’s energy-efficient LEED®
