Last night Grab Mosaic won Silver at the Effie Awards Singapore 2026 — "Grab Mosaic: Designs without Designers", in New Product, Service or Business. What I like about this one: the Effies are the marketing industry's effectiveness awards. The judges don't know us and don't care how the pixels look. They ask one question — did it work? Mosaic wasn't bought. It was built in-house by our own illustrators, designers and UX engineers, for a problem we lived with every day. Instead of asking for more designers, the team built a way for anyone at Grab to make something on-brand in seconds. Minh Tran carried it from the first concept to what it is today. More from him soon. Proud of this team. #Effie2026 #GrabDesign #Grab #AI #Design

Minh Tran shared thisStill a bit stunned writing this. Last Thursday, Grab Mosaic won Silver at the Effie Awards Singapore 2026, in the New Product, Service or Business category. 🥈 The Effies are the marketing industry's effectiveness awards. The room was full of the region's biggest campaigns. And there we were, a small design team with a product we built ourselves. Mosaic is Grab's internal AI media platform. We trained it on Grab's own visual identity, so anyone in the company can create on-brand images and videos in seconds. Since late 2024 it has produced over 1 million generations for more than 5,800 Grabbers across Marketing, Ops, Support, Product and Design. I had the privilege of leading the taskforce that built it, from the product itself to more rounds of model fine-tuning than I can count. A crew of designers, illustrators and UX engineers shipped this on top of their day jobs. Minh Tran reacted on thisGrab Mosaic won Silver at the Effie Awards Singapore 2026 last week. Minh Tran has already said what needed to be said about the product. Patrick Jean about the bet. I just want to say how proud I am. Mosaic did not start as a product. It started as a GenAI sprint, from a group of designers exploring what the new models could do with our visual identity. The Design Tech team took that idea and turned it into something real. The same people who keep our design system, our tooling and our workflows running for every designer at Grab. Quiet work, most of the time. Then AI arrived, and quiet became essential. I am proud to be leading that team through this moment. From there we scaled it outside the design team, to Marketing, Ops, Support and Product, with a workflow built around it so that the model does the work and the people get the result. A sprint idea ended up in the hands of thousands of Grabbers, and then on an Effie stage, judged by a jury that only cared whether it worked. A bet that turned into concrete impact. None of it happens without trust. Trust to spend time on something with no numbers yet. Trust to build something big instead of something safe. Patrick gave us that. Minh and the team turned it into something real. Well done to the illustration team too Melinnie Angela Adeline Cheung Valencia Ng #Effie2026 #GrabDesign #DesignTech #Grab #AI #DesignMinh Tran reacted on thisThree illustrators. UXINDIA 2026 — Design Leadership Week Two days of conversations and perspectives on how design, technology, business and AI are reshaping each other. A few takeaways: • Design is becoming a continuous loop of learning and adaptation, not a handoff. • Design leadership is increasingly about influencing business and technology decisions, not just experiences. • As AI transforms how we design, human understanding remains fundamental. My biggest takeaway: The future of design leadership is as much about influencing organisations as it is about designing experiences. Grateful for the conversations, connections and perspectives from across the design community. Thank you, UXINDIA, for creating the space for these conversations. #UXIndia2026 #DesignLeadership #UXLeadership #ExperienceDesign #HumanCenteredAI

👌 If it looks good, it works well 🥇 🎨 Framing Effect & Halo Effect in UI/UX Design 🧠 Definition Framing Effect 🖼️ The way information is presented changes how it’s interpreted. → Same data, different emotional impact. Halo Effect 😇 One positive trait influences the entire judgment. → Users assume “if it looks good, it works well.” Together, these biases shape how users feel, trust, and act — even before they interact with your product. 📖 Storytime: The Case of the Stats & the Pretty App Imagine you’re comparing two health apps 🧘♂️. App A says: “90% of users improved their sleep.” App B says: “10% of users didn’t improve.” Same stat. But App A feels hopeful, while App B feels risky. That’s the Framing Effect. Now imagine App B has a gorgeous interface — smooth animations, elegant typography, calming colors. Suddenly, you trust it more. You assume it’s easier to use, more accurate, more professional. That’s the Halo Effect. Your brain just said: “It looks good → It must be good.” 🔍 Why These Biases Matter for Designers 1. Framing Effect 🖼️ What it does: Changes perception based on wording or visual emphasis. Where to use it: Success metrics → “90% success” > “10% failure” Feature descriptions → “Save time” > “Avoid delays” Error messages → “Let’s fix this together” > “You did something wrong” Design Tip: Frame with positivity, clarity, and user empowerment. 2. Halo Effect 😇 What it does: One good trait (usually visual) influences overall judgment. Where to use it: First impressions → Landing pages, onboarding screens UI polish → Typography, spacing, animations Branding → Colors, tone, microcopy Design Tip: Invest in visual quality — it builds trust before functionality is even tested. 🎮 Fun Analogy: The Dating App Trick 💘 You see two profiles. One says: “90% match!” → You swipe right. The other says: “10% mismatch.” → You hesitate. → Same data, different frame. Now imagine one profile has a stunning photo — well-lit, confident smile. → You assume they’re kind, smart, successful. That’s the Halo Effect. Design works the same way — your product’s first impression sets the tone for everything that follows. 🚀 Why This Matters in UX Without Framing, your product feels cold or confusing. Without Halo, your product may be judged unfairly. With both, you create interfaces that feel trustworthy, empowering, and emotionally intelligent. 🖼️ Framing Effect → Presentation shapes perception. 😇 Halo Effect → One good trait colors the whole experience. 🎨 Design Tip → Frame with clarity, polish with beauty.
