Welcome one and all to another season of FPL and the 4th edition of the Thaiger Talk league. Last year, we had 38 players, including regular Thaiger Talk members and guests. In the end "11 Tigers" won the league and “Lil Slackers” sprung an upset in the cup. And my team had their worst season ever :( If you’d like to join, the auto link is: https://fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/auto-join/cwjot6 (NB - if you are new to FPL, this game is administered off-site and you’ll need to enter a username. If you wish to maintain anonymity, just make one up: Donald Duck, Johnny Jones etc) …

The concept is simple: from the upcoming round of EPL fixtures, pick any team you think will win. If you are correct, you progress to the next week. Wrong, and you’re out. You can’t pick the same team twice in a 20-week cycle (you can’t pick Manchester City every week). PM your selections to @JohninDubinno later than one hour before kick-off for each round of games. Right, let’s get cracking! It all starts on October 22nd. Check the fixtures and make your choice. Good luck, all!

The game is easy to play. For each game week of fixtures, just predict the correct result and score. 10 points if you get the result correct (home, win, draw) + 30 bonus points for correctly predicting the exact score of each fixture. Rules: 1. Correctly selecting the fixture as home, away or a draw earns you 10 points. 2. Predicting the exact score of any fixture result earns you an extra 30 ‘bonus’ points. 3. You cannot change match predictions or scores after first submission. 4. Any postponed matches will be void, and nil points awarded for that fixture. 5. Predictions to be submitted no later than 1 hour before the first game kick off time. 6. Fail…

You can't pick the same team twice until you've picked all of the other teams (you can't pick Manchester City every week). 2 points for a win and 5 points for the Last Person Standing. If you'd like to play, simply pick one winner from the Game Week 1 fixtures below, and you'll be added to the competition excel, which will be posted later. Well, the Cricket T20 World cup is on us again with the early games starting in just under 3 hours. Who will lift the trophy this time around? https://www.t20worldcup.com/ The debutants, Paua New Guinea, will be first up as the group stage gets underway to determine the final 2 places in the Super 12. Who will progress? Their opposition will be Oman, the co-hosts, and relative newcomers as well, having competed previously about 5 years ago. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh head the picks to take the final 2 spots with England and India topping the bookmakers odds to reach the final. Common the Aussies!

Now the T20 World Cup has finished, and the champions Australia have been crowned (yes gloating rights for little a while), attention in cricket now turns to the oldest rivalry! The Ashes is a Test cricket series played between England and Australia. The term originated in a satirical obituary published in a British newspaper, The Sporting Times, immediately after Australia's 1882 victory at The Oval, its first Test win on English soil. The mythical ashes immediately became associated with the 1882–83 series played in Australia, before which the English captain Ivo Bligh had vowed to "regain those ashes". The English media therefore dubbed the tour the q…

With World Cup qualifying well underway, competition for the 31 spots up for grabs is heating up. Which teams will make it and who will miss out? Who would you like to see in (or not in)? Let’s get into it here. Another round of Asian qualifiers last night. Australia, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Iran are in the automatic spots. Japan already in deep trouble and could miss out for the first time since ‘94 if they don’t lift their game. https://www.espn.com/soccer/standings/_/league/fifa.worldq.afc

Now then footie fans . . . With the next Magpies’ manager picture changing almost daily – first, it was Conte, until Spurs snapped him up, then Unai Emery was supposedly (though not actually, it appears) having talks, while another early favourite, former Roma manager Paulo Fonseca, ‘has held talks with Newcastle but has not heard from the club this week (BBC)’ and for the money now falling towards Eddie Howe – maybe there’s more than enough expert opinion, here on TT, and some member two-penneths could be interesting, if not downright debatable 😠. To help things along and for my two-penneth, a couple of observations: Re yesterday’s falling-off of Unai …

Now the dust is settling, let’s play The Toon Task game. We now know who has the challenging task of keeping Newcastle United in English football’s top flight and that the eyes of the footie world will be watching how Eddie Howe + players progress as each match-week passes. To add some extra spice to proceedings, here’s a little challenge that we can all tackle (clever little pun intended). Listed below are The Toon’s next 10 games, taking us up to the January transfer window and to play The Toon Task game, all you have to do is quote this OP into your own post and then – and here’s the tricky bit! – enter ALL your predicted results in place of the ?s. Now then you footie fans . . . Mk2 Or should that be Mk3, after all the excitement and intrigue of the Newcastle and Villa managerial appointments? But, let's face it, this one is - or at least it should be - a biggy and with the weekend favourite, Zidane, having expressed no interest (poisoned chalice, maybe?) and the interim manager, Michael Carrick, making positive noises, who do you put your money on? All two-penneths more than welcome, before you-know-who chips his six-penneth into the mix . . . just saying, @BigHewer😁.

The Tokyo Olympics just gone was two weeks of unprecedented coverage by the media worldwide. Everyday on BBC News the front pages were peppered with Olympic achievements by the UK participants, a gold medal won made it headline news. These Olympians did of course deserve praise for reaching the highest echelons of their chosen sport but not without 100 % dedication and devotion that started in nearly all cases from a young age. They certainly deserved the praise bestowed upon them. However in the ongoing paraolympics dedicated sportsman hardly receive a mention. In fact today on BBC news Ronaldo gets more coverage, another dedicated sportsman true, but now extremely…

Hiya, Footie fans, @BigHewer, @Chaimai, @Faz, @Marble-eye, @snapdragon, @spicy_girland @Slacker77! With our fab footie games both coming to a well-earned break this weekend and with, I feel, a downturn of interest in the LPS format, I was wondering if any of you gamesters may have ideas for starting a new game, hopefully to run alongside the FFFF game, if Faz is happy to continue running that. Maybe yes, maybe no, but truth is KC’s been hatching a little game, called – would you believe? – GOALS! which has the win-win factor of (A) keeping everyone involved every week and (B) is very easy to play and also to manage; so easy in fact that I’d be happy to do…

As suggested in another topic, an idea for a further football competition. Actually two games in mind although only the most popular likely to be played. It's proposed one of these game will be played in addition to the current FPL and LPS competitions. Looking for feed back on those interested and 'which' of the two suggestions is more popular. First proposed game. Each week players predict the fixture results, either home (1), away (2), draw (X). 1 point for correctly predicting a home win, 2 points for an away win, 3 points for a draw. E.G. Week No. xx predictions. Arsenal v Brentford 1 Aston Villa v Watford …

It’s going to be closer to midnight so maybe with current restrictions this may not be possible. From memory, Wallabies vs Wales and England vs Boks and France vs Kiwis. Cheers, Ed
