Phetchabun, Kanchanaburi & other areas

The setting of the acclaimed films ‘Bridge on the River Kwai’ and ‘The Railway Man’, Kanchanaburi is a town of 30,000 with many stories to tell. Home to two world-class museums and a number of significant World War II sites, Kanchanaburi packs a serious punch for anyone interested in history. Located 250km north-west of Bangkok, Kanchanaburi is a leafy provincial town of broad boulevards, riverside dining and a surprisingly exuberant nightlife scene. Whether passing through en route to the array of national parks further north or making a side trip here from Bangkok, there is plenty for the visitor to explore here.

Phetchabun in the Central-north, lies in the Pa Sak River valley between parallel ranges of the Phetchabun Mountains. Khao Kho National Park in the northwest is characterised by magnificent forests, mountains and a cooler climate which favours vegetable growing. Si Thep Historical Park, in the south of the province, contains the ruins of an ancient Khmer city possibly threatened by oil exploration.

Hi, I hope this is the right place to post. Driving up to Loei and want to break the journey. Will have a night in Saraburi and then Phetchabun or Lom Sak. Question is, has anyone been to both Phetchabun city and Lom Sak? Just want somewhere with good eating places and maybe a place of interest or two. Also, will want to go for a stroll and stretch our legs, is one or the other better for walking. Will have my teenage son with me, wife not coming so walking not a problem. Thanks for any insights
