I've been playing around with Wise (formerly TransferWise) for several years and recently figured out how to shave up to 1/2% off the cost of a transfer. So your transfers on small sums might pay for a beer, on large sums it's dinner at Jay Fai. The bad news is this only applies to US account holders so the rest of the world will just have to keep spending more for the same stuff. (No change there... ?) First - You need to set up your Multi-Currency Account in Wise. This is just a housekeeping task and involves having a small balance in USD after which you can add Thai Baht as one of your currencies. So now you have a multi-currency account and our two currencies of …

I heard that some Wise transfers done in the last couple of days are not being shown as FTT/International transfers even though 'long term stay' option is clicked. So I just did a Bht 1000 transfer to my Bangkok Bank as I do every month and yes, it was shown as a transfer from a local bank, Kasikorn, and was instant wheras it normally takes a few hours or even a day. I have sent an enquiry email to Wise and expect an answer soon, but if this is going to be the normal from now on, a lot of us will be very disappointed, and will have to go to say Kasikorn to get a Credit advice to show to Bangkok Bank, and Immigration. My usual monthly transfer on 1st October came as …

This was one of my worries with using wise which was recommended by a lot of people and I did some transfers and did see that it was charged as a cash advanced. Cash advance charges usually have added fees (per charge), interest fees (charged starting the day the payment is sent up until the cash advance is paid back, usually around 20% a year), and no rewards/points/cashbacks are awarded for cash advances. Just a heads up for anyone looking to use Wise, an alternative would be paypal which is not charged with as a cash advance and the fees are about the same as Wise

Does anyone have a contact email address for Wise without logging on ?? For some reason my account has been deactivated, I can’t appeal because it needs me to login ? Tried a new email address to set up a new account but my phone number is linked to the old email so that failed also ( would give me the OTP but when submitted it says “ linked to another email address “ ). Going round in circles.

Does anyone out there know how I can get a cashiers cheque made out in US dollars or UK pounds for the Jamaican embassy in Jamaica for my marriage certificate to be apostille. The lovely lady at my local bangkok bank has said no banks issue them, any help would stop me from going barking mad!

My last experience was so painful. I had to visit about 15 different money exchange shops and banks to buy 500$ in Phuket before departure to my home country. Now I am planning to buy about 600$(USD) in Bangkok before departure to my home country. Please advise me a convenient place for this to avoid cheetah-like running experience before departure.

Is anybody aware if DWP will transfer UK state pension payments to a Wise account? Thanks.

I think it is a follow on from their recent data breach, but not only has Wise implemented upgraded login authentication processes, they are now demanding details personal and financial information for the last 3 months. Below is the list of things they are asking for and I have confirmed with Wise directly that it is them and it is not a scam. Firstly, I am not going to comply and I will only be sending them basic written answers - not detailed statements and 'proof'. Secondly, IMO this is a stupid thing to do because this will be copied by the scammers. My advice is to think carefully before responding to such a request. Never has a bank or any fi…

Any helpful advice will be gratefully received. Yesterday I checked my bank statement and noticed that 4 x £20 had been withdrawn from my account, I contacted the HSBC and they said they were for international transfers to my Bangkok bank. My state pension gets automatically paid into the Bangkok Bank with no problem but I was unaware until yesterday that if I transfer any money from my UK bank acc I get charged £10 from the issuing bank and £20 from the receiving bank. I usually transfer small transfers like £200 to tide me over until my next pension goes in, but to pay £10 + £20 for a paltry sum of £200 is highway robbery, but looking at that if I transfe…

I want to transfer around 1000 baht to a vendor in the US. I used to have a PP a/c but I get so many spam messages from whoever, that I'd prefer not to sign up again. I'm fairly sure that it's possible to make a 'one-off payment' without having a PP a/c, but dunno how to do so. Any help, please gentlemen? Thanks

Hi, I have a problem. How does one withdraw large sums of baht as a non-resident foreigner? Larger than is allowed at the ATM? Because I was turned down at Siam Bank

As a recent immigrant with a Thai wife, what advice can anyone offer on the best way to forward US pension and Social Security payments to a Thai bank account.

Despite efforts of Paypal to relaunch in Thailand it seems to be all over now. Customers, both private and business received an email this morning that all the documents they had to file to keep using their Paypal account in Thailand after February 18 was just a waste of effort because Paypal and the Thai government cannot seem to get the agreement sealed. This means money cannot be received and transferred via Paypal anymore from March 7 on. This is very bad news for individuals but worse for business owners wishing to get payments via paypal. Online sales is limited by a margin... Understandably the Thai government tries to reduce mone…

Has anyone transferred a similar amount? I need to transfer $100k to Thailand from the USA. Can I do it with the Wise app or do I need to do it with the bank? Thanks

Got the following message from Wise this morning when I was attempting to transfer 1000 USD to my Thai bank account. "Sorry we cannot transfer more than $29,000 USD ( I think they meant 29,000 baht) at this time. Does anybody know anything about this new change? Also, rather than using the ACH route they are only allowing the transfer to be charged to a debit card if amount is more than $750.

Anyone out there with a USA Schwab ATM/Debit card able to use an ATM here in the past few days? Tried 4 times since Friday at our usual Krungsi branch ATM, and after selecting the withdrawal amount, get a message that comms can't be established with the bank (Schwab). Tried two other machines in different parts of the city, same thing. Happened last month as well. Tried Bangkok Bank, same problem there. Managed to use a different Krungsi ATM hours later, so I chalked it up to temporary outage/system maintenance, etc. This time it's been 3 days of trying without success. Mag strip on the back of the card and the chip on the front appear normal/not dam…

There are a number of articles that basically say PayPal Thailand will become defunct next February. It seems that only registered businesses will be able to use it. From the FAQ Does anyone have any further information on this and a possible workaround if this should be the case.

Tried to put this in the Finance section but simply wouldn't work. Has anyone had any experience moving funds OUT of Thailand. Eg selling a property and returning 2 mill to 5 mill bht home to their country? I have heard rumors this is difficult but wanted to know the real situation prior to bringing money into Thailand. Thanks.

BAD NEWS for business registered in Thailand, specially for foreigners having business in Thailand! PayPal for personal recently got blocked for transfers outside Thailand and new personal accounts will only be granted too Thai nationals. PayPal for business (minimum LTD company) was re-opened a while ago with the huge notice that all data will be shared to the Thai revenue department on a daily base. Especially registered tourism companies do get pre-payments transferred via PayPal since there are virtually no payment gateway providers that offer sufficient Credit Card payment support if money is transferred to a Thai bank. Other options as for example p…

I use Wise to send the normal 20-50k baht But how do you send 2-3mil baht? What is your experience on the rate you receive at the Thai bank in Thailand? Because to send 2mil baht on Wise it will be pretty much spot rate but they charge 497cad in fees Thanks

I was told elsewhere that there is now a limit of 49,999 THB for transfers from overseas to Thailand due to money laundering rules being introduced. I transferred a lot more than that on 1st December, anyone know if this new rule is actually true?

Conveniently I have an SCB bank close by. However I see that they impose a 5% fee on top of the 200 baht fee. Do all banks charge this 5%, or just SCB? Using Wise isn't possible at this point.

Anyone have any experience with this mob? DeeMoney Specifically, I'm looking to transfer some baht back to Oz to help out my old man, hopefully directly into his bank account. Failing this, any other methods I could look into for getting Baht back to Oz?

I have a Bangkok Bank account for about a year. I just transferred over a large amount from my USA bank using Wise in late December and notice a Tax line item on my bank statement about a week later for about .3% of the that amount but not sure it's related. Is there a new tax from the government I missed ?
