Greg Roberts posted thisToday marks the start of my 20th year at Jellyfish. I didn't feel this was particularly newsworthy but being sat next to our global marketing lead Hannah Dempsey today, she ensures me it is (so blame her for the 30 second interruption to your scrolling). Unnecessary sarcasm and deflection aside, I am mildly petrified at where that time has gone (and how grey my beard has turned) but also pretty damn proud of what has been achieved. I would say here's to the next 20 years but I would like to be happily retired before that milestone hits. So, instead, here's to the next few years at the very least! 🚀

Even when it’s amicable and you’re doing everything "the right way," the unwinding of a 20-year life together is enormous. If I’m being honest, I’ve been hiding the impact it’s had on me for too long. As a business owner, you like to think you’re in control. But the biggest realisation throughout this process has been that I’m actually not in control of anything, and maybe that’s a good thing. I’m finally learning to let go. I decided, for once, to talk about my achievements and threw my hat into the ring for something I would never have dared to consider before. I’m absolutely thrilled to share that I have made it onto The BD100 list 2026 - a platform that recognises the UK’s top 100 business development professionals. I have lived and breathed Business Development for close to 30 years and fortunately I still have the same drive and determination to make a difference today. It can be hard and certainly has its fair share of challenges but that's what I love the most. A special thank you to both Rich McHardy and Jody Osman for creating something that celebrates all the unsung BD heroes out there. It's wonderful that business developers have a community in which they belong, sharing insights and best practice. To be recognised alongside so many talented and forward-thinking professionals is something I’m incredibly proud of. Speaking at #brightonSEO and #MeasureFest October 2025 was a personal milestone and one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had in the industry 🙂 Fellow speakers, attendees and industry peers all contributed to conversations that showed the real strength of our community. The search industry is often misunderstood from the outside, but the openness, generosity and shared expertise I saw over those two days made me genuinely proud to be part of it. Preparing for my talk took a lot of time, late nights and weekends, but the response and feedback made it all worth it. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who attended, and to Kelvin Newman and the brightonSEO team for the opportunity 🙏 Having attended brightonSEO in both April this year and back in 2023, the shift in AI search is now impossible to ignore. Back in brightonSEO April 2023, ChatGPT and generative AI were emerging themes. Talks raised awareness but offered few case studies and little in the way of actionable takeaways; it was still early. The tone was exploratory. Fast forward to October 2025, and that has fundamentally changed. AI search has moved from curiosity to critical strategy. The conference agenda was packed with sessions exploring shifts in user behaviour, the practical realities of agentic search, and how AI-driven discovery is already transforming visibility, brand presence and conversion. One major theme was “Agentic AI”: the shift from simply surfacing information and receiving answers, to using AI as an active agent that helps us complete tasks and make decisions more efficiently. The Atlas browser from OpenAI, launched just two days before the conference, embodied this evolution. It signals a future where users remain within the ChatGPT ecosystem for the full journey, from search through to decision and action. AI is no longer just a research assistant; it is becoming the full experience. At the conference, terms like GEO, AIO, AI Search and AEO were being used interchangeably, with no single definition cutting through. But one thing is clear: AI search is no longer a trend. It's here, and we either adapt how we measure and optimise for it, or risk falling behind. Thankfully, the event offered plenty of perspectives on exactly that. I also had the pleasure of meeting some brilliant people over the two days - a mix of fellow speakers, attendees who came along to my session, and others I’d been speaking with in the lead-up to the event. It was great to meet in person and share ideas face to face, with people such as 💡💷 Amrdeep Athwal, Christian Rigg, Daniel Smith, Ian Ferguson, James Yorke, Novica Kocev, Pete Heslop, Samanyou Garg (and the amazing team at Writesonic!), Samy Ben Sadok, Samy Thuillier, Stuart Tofts and Yordan Dimitrov, to name a few!
