In 2000/2010, people used mostly compact for holiday...I used the A1100 up to 2016 as my last one (after a sony DSC-P73).
Nowaday people mostly uses smartphones ! That's what you can see everywhere !
It's maybe not your taste, but it's reality.
285's 300mm or A1100's 140mm has nothing to do with expertise on car or real estate agent !
There's not a single photophone with fullframe !
1" is the best sensor you can get...1/2.55" on 17e is a piece of shit

Photophone replaces mr everybody's... moreThose cameras you mentioned are not holiday cameras - they are utilitarian cameras used by estate agents to take snapshots of the state of the properties they go in, and also used by car insurance providers to document any bodywork damage after small accidents. Bringing such cameras on holiday means using the wrong tool for the wrong job.
Same for smartphones - they are not meant to replace your holiday cameras. Smartphones sensors are ok for taking pictures of documents, taking a snapshot of the surrounding area to share with someone as a reference when they are trying to get to your location, basically utilitarian use. There is no point in taking holiday pics with digital sensors unless you feel like manually editing thousands of individual pictures afterward, correcting all the flaws of digital.
Holidays are for 35mm film. Compact cameras and rangefinders. Maybe a lightweight SLR and a pancake lens would work too. The optimal tools for holidays!
Digital is just a waste of time when you are on holiday.

I won't get a crappy 17e even to replace my old 2009's Canon Powershot A1100

Anyone who cares about photography would get a dedicated camera and not treat smartphone cameras as anything more than utilitarian, a convenient option to take a few snapshots here and there.
1/1.3" is nothing.
1/1" is nothing.
Micro 4/3 is nothing.
APS-C is nothing.
Full Frame is acceptable.
Medium Format smaller than 6x8 is ok.
Medium Format 6x8, 6x9, 6x12 are good.
Large Format 4x5 is great.
Large Format 8x10 is sweet.
And anything larger is just awesome and amazing.

imagine you don't drive mostly with public transportation where you can see the same people, mostly younger audience using their iphones, maybe you'd see some other users going for iphone not just a bunch of "i don't know who am i, i'm still searching for my self, i have to be accepted" kids.
sure, apple is considered by many just as a status symbol, but are they just that?

so are the adidas, nike, levi's, puma, vans, bmw, mercedes and many other more brands in the world, yet towards apple is some special kind of "love". it's somehow so easy for many people to well.. don't like apple or their users. which is... really.. i mean.. imagine you judge people who they are because of the phone they're using. lmao. anyway..
imagine you work at a medium size corporation with 80+ people and get for your work phone some base model iphone, because everyone are working on macs at your work so you have to work with ios on your phone too even if you personally use android phone.
imagine you have a bunch of working colleagues and friends using facetime or some other features you can't have in android world.
imagine some old grannies who are using iphones for the past almost 20 years and you trying to persuade them they need to get used to something else because it's cheaper and waaaaay better. do you think they need better or just to use what they got used to? do you really think the switch from ios to android is that easy?
sorry, it's a rhetorical question, you don't have to answer.
imagine you are buying all your iphones through carriers with 3 or even 4 years of repayments in rates like many people buy iphones because they got used to doing that for the past almost 20 years.
imagine you for a change see people that actually liked ios experience the same way you did the android and that it's not that easy to left that ecosystem.
the real question for you is, would you buy any of new iphones if they cost for example 200€ or 300€ instead of circa 1000€?
imagine all that one by one.

And yes, it's mainly linked to hardware...physic is physic !
Get for real a 2 years old Xiaomi 14 Ultra and the last iphone 17 Pro Max (the first is probably harder to find). I did, old Xiaomi is a better photophone.
Get a Xiaomi 13T Pro and a Pixel 7, it's the two devices I compared the more...both 1/1.3" f/1.9 main sensor...I did, impossible to find a winner !
When you've got a 1/2.55" on 17e, you will have horrible low light photos...it's as certain as if you put a Citroën 2CV's engine in a Ferrari you won't drive up to 300km/h

As someone who prefers Android, but work forced it's hand - for the money, it's a solid buy. Playstation and Xbox users got over their hatred for eachother. Why can't we also grow up? Buy what you like, need - prefer - and respect other's decision to do the same.

Apple and Google are thieves...inferior hardware on expensive devices. And huge side incomes.
Iphone 17 Pro (Max) and Pixel Pro (XL) are inferior compare to Honor, Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi ultra and even Pro models. Those had to develop on 2 different platforms (Mediatek and Qualcomm with different GPU, NPU, ISP...)
17e, 10 and 10a are...pieces of shit
Plus Pixel use mid range soc (G5 costs 65 dollars when, Dimensity 9500 costs 180, 8 Elite Gen 5 around 200!).
Plus Apple with his huge amount of R&D on software isn't even able to release AI stuffs.
Even in term of hardware, Apple got Intel's 4g and 5g modem and need 5 years to release something !...from scratch, even UNISOC released 5g in less time.
