Abigail Staples shared thisFuture of Brand. I like the sound of that. 😏 I'm incredibly honored to be named to AFROTECH's Future 50, recognizing 50 Black leaders shaping what's next across technology and business. The recognition got me thinking about the kind of work I've always been drawn to: building demand for innovations that don't have a blueprint yet. Finding common language for uncommon new products — and making them relevant, useful and worth wanting. At PepsiCo, that meant helping launch the first beverage developed specifically for gamers. At Meta, becoming the first consumer marketer focused on AI glasses. And now at Amazon, expanding what the Kindle brand can mean for work and productivity through Kindle Scribe. There's another throughline in that work that makes being recognized by AFROTECH especially meaningful: Black culture has so often helped me tell the story. From working with Lil Baby to re-stage Rockstar Energy, to producing the first music video starring Burna Boy for Ray-Ban Meta glasses, to work with Lebron James, Erykah Badu, Coco Gauff, and more— I've had the privilege of building with Black creators who help move culture forward. Understanding where culture is being created — and who is creating it — is fundamental to great marketing. I'm proud to be part of AFROTECH's Future of Brand class and even more excited about what we're all building next. Thank you, AFROTECH and Blavity, for the recognition. 🖤 #AfroTechFuture50 #AfroTech2026 Congrats also to my fellow honorees! Abigail Staples shared thisTarget’s SVP of Food & Bev Merchandising John Conlin just shouted out Fishwife as an example of a strong brand that’s creating value in new consumer trends with standout packaging and branding! Sounds like this role will continue to build on excellent momentum. Sharing to my network for added visibility.Abigail Staples shared thisFishwife HAS NEVER HIRED FOR A BRAND MARKETING ROLE LIKE THIS BEFORE 🤩🤩🤩!!! In my 100% unbiased opinion, brand marketing at Fishwife is about as much fun as a brand marketer can have. We get to launch the kind of campaigns that got us named the #1 brand social presence of the year (source: Link in Bio), partner with world-class brands like Whole Foods Market, Sweetgreen, and Glossier, dream up magical pop-ups, cookbooks, and restaurant tours, and generally do whatever the heck excites and inspires us. To date, we've done it all as the scrappiest marketing team of four hard-workin' folks!! NOW we’re ready to level up with a brand marketing leader with autonomy, authority, and creative capacity to help write the next chapter of the Fishwife marketing story 💪 !! The Senior Director of Brand Marketing will: ⭐ Own Fishwife's brand strategy, positioning, and voice as we scale from cult favorite to household staple ⭐ Build and own the annual brand calendar and integrated campaign plan, aligned to commercial priorities across DTC, Amazon, and retail ⭐ Lead brand partnerships alongside our CEO (me!) and our incredible (and still extremely tiny) brand marketing team — shape the annual collab calendar and decide which opportunities are actually worth the brand ⭐ Serve as creative director for the brand and build the team behind it — set the bar, write the briefs, manage the freelance and agency roster, and hire and grow a team Learn more + apply here, truly jumping out of my office chair to meet you folks 🪑 : https://bit.ly/4cwrxo0

Abigail Staples shared thisSpeed is becoming easier. Judgment isn’t. Technology has made it easier than ever to find answers, generate options and move quickly. That’s an incredible advantage. But I’m interested in the other side of that equation: What happens to our judgment when we stop creating space to think for ourselves? Tomorrow at the Fast Company Innovation Festival, I’m excited to share the stage with Leena Jain, Tama Kieves and Hal Gregersen moderated by Shannon LaNier for a conversation about What the Best Leaders Do Before They Decide—the habits, questions and moments of reflection that help us find clarity and move with conviction. 📍Wednesday, September 16 | 9:00–9:30 AM | Forum

Abigail Staples reposted thisAbigail Staples reposted thisI remember the first day of AFROTECH in 2016 like it was yesterday! My team staffed the badge tables and staggered the schedule so we could run between our two stages. AfroTech turns ten this year, which means ten years of people who decided to come together to influence, build, and innovate together. Maybe you came to AfroTech and got a life-changing job offer. Maybe you came and were inspired to write your first angel check. Or maybe you came and met your future husband! As the AI revolution shifts the priorities of many of the companies we traditionally work with, I want to give 100 sponsored AfroTech Insider memberships in order to get those who have been loyal to the AfroTech community to conference this year. We’ve been working hard to bring new partners with growing, stable enterprises in energy, medtech and gov tech to conference who are looking to make experienced hires. Two requirements. 1) You’ve been to an AfroTech Conference before (at least once). 2) You were laid off, or role was restructured out in the last nine months. Afrotech Insider is our official membership program that includes professional coaching, AI technical trainings, local networking opportunities and more. Apply here: https://lnkd.in/gxbG569G And if this isn't for you, send it to someone who needs it. P.S. If you’d like to support by sending someone in the AfroTech community to conference, you can sponsor an attendee here: https://lnkd.in/g8Ppr4kX

Abigail Staples shared thisI think I misunderstood humility. That’s the realization I walked away with after interviewing Bozoma Saint John at The Female Quotient Beach at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. The thread running through our entire conversation was intuition. Trust it. Don’t be afraid to leave a situation when you know it’s no longer right. Have the conviction to follow your instincts, even when the people around you can’t yet see what you see. She said it with such intensity that it felt less like career advice and more like she was speaking to a younger version of herself. Or maybe she was trying to impart it to me with so much conviction that I’d never second guess my own choices again. It made me realize how often I’d confused humility with deference. How often I’d assumed someone else’s certainty should outweigh my own intuition. Boz also made a point that I haven’t been able to shake: the people who love you aren’t usually trying to hold you back. They’re trying to protect you. But protection and growth don’t always point in the same direction. And that doesn’t make their advice wrong. It just means that, at some point, you have to decide whose voice gets the final vote. One of my favorite moments from our conversation: “Who lied to us and told us to be so humble? That is a code word for ‘don’t try.’ That’s a code word for ‘stay in your place.’ That’s a code word for ‘you shouldn’t try to aim higher than your station.’” If you’re navigating a career decision—or simply trying to build the confidence to trust yourself a little more—I hope you’ll watch the full conversation (linked below.) It’s part master class, part testimony, and part rallying cry for trusting your own intuition, following your own north star, and refusing to wait for permission. https://lnkd.in/gQn-gYKe

Abigail Staples shared thisThe most impressive person in the room is the one who's fully in it. I built a campaign around that idea. This spring, I took the reins on the first brand campaign in Kindle's nearly 20-year history to live entirely outside of Amazon's surfaces. Streaming TV. Audio. Social. Creators. Cultural stages. A brand that hundreds of millions of people already love — now showing up in the world with a point of view about how ambitious people work. We are more connected than we have ever been. We are also more distracted than we have ever been. Somewhere in that gap lives the work that actually matters — the thinking, the writing, the ideas that require your full presence. That's the tension this campaign is built on. The campaign is called "What Are You Working On?" The positioning: the feel of paper and the power of AI, together. A tool built for people who protect their focus — and a signal that you take your thinking seriously. We put the brand in culture. We launched at SXSW and recently at Cannes– offering a hands on demo for senior leaders. I watched repeatedly as people’s eyes lit up and they exclaimed “This feels like writing on paper!” We partnered with creators who embody deep work because they do deep work — Bozoma Saint John, Sahil Bloom, Codie Sanchez to name a few. And it’s clear the strategy is working. This is my first campaign at Amazon Devices and I'm proud of what this team built. Taking a beloved brand into new territory requires equal parts ambition and reverence — and the privilege of starting from something people already love is something I hold with care. When you're locked in, you get more done. Better thinking. Better meetings. Better output. That's what Kindle Scribe was built for. So — what are you working on? Abigail Staples shared thisI always believed Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity is where the biggest conversations in marketing happen. What surprised me was that very few of those conversations were actually about marketing. I arrived hoping there would be one magical framework to rule them all—something I'd immediately bring back to work. Instead, what stayed with me were conversations about reinvention, conviction, consumer curiosity, and the cultures that make great marketing possible. Eva Longoria spoke about reinvention. She shared the story of deciding she wanted to become a producer and realizing she was completely out of her depth on business knowledge. "Who is EBITDA and why does she get to make all the decisions?" she joked. Jo Shoesmith challenged us to think about whether our conversations around creativity have become too polished and PR-trained. Mimi Swain encouraged us to spend more time in spaces like Reddit because consumers are often more honest when they don't think a brand is listening. My favorite quote of the week came from Dara Treseder: “Marketing is fact and feeling. Art and science." Then she added: “Opine with a spine." The conversations I keep replaying, though, didn't happen on stage. They happened walking the Croisette, over a morning pastry before the first session, and lingering over a glass of rosé after the last one. No matter the company or category, we kept circling back to the same question: How do you build a culture where people still have the courage to try something new? On a lighter note, I also learned not to schedule back-to-back meetings on opposite ends of the Croisette. Twenty thousand steps, one overworked handheld fan, and a healthy respect for the Riviera sun later, I'd consider that my official rookie mistake. Being there demystified some of what had always felt elusive and almost mythical. The space itself isn't all that unique aside from being a concentration of interesting and interested people. I came home with pages of notes. The real work now is figuring out which ones belong in my notebook, and which ones belong in my leadership. Love that they shared her conversation with Abigail Staples so you can see her in action too: https://lnkd.in/ekwuaJa6 Go for the real talk: "Who lied to us and told us to be so humble? That is a code word for 'don't try.' That's a code word for 'stay in your place.' That's a code word for 'you shouldn't try to aim higher than your station.'" Stay for the career advice: "You have to jump. Even when you don't think you're ready. If you're sitting in here right now, and you are contemplating whether it's time to move, whether it's time to ask for the promotion, whether or not it's time to go ask for that big client - if you are asking yourself that question, 'if you're ready' you are ready right now so go and get it." #CannesLions2026

Abigail Staples reacted on thisAbigail Staples reacted on this11 years ago this week, I sent a cold email that changed my career. This week, my face was on the Nasdaq Tower in Times Square with the words “CMO, Amazon Devices & Services.” I definitely did not see that coming. When I sent that email in 2015, I wasn’t thinking about where I’d be in 11 years. I wasn’t mapping out some perfect career plan. I was trying to make one move. I knew something needed to change, so I wrote to Jamie Siminoff, the founder of a small company called Ring, and asked for a job. He wrote back. A few weeks later, he hired me. What came next was a decade of work, a lot of learning, a lot of unexpected turns, and more opportunities than I could have imagined when I hit send that morning. So seeing this in Times Square this week felt a little surreal. Not because being on a billboard was ever the goal. Because 11 years ago, I had no idea where one small move could lead. Very grateful to be included in the American Heart Association and Rokt’s Leaders with Heart takeover for World Heart Day — and for the reminder to keep making the next move.

Abigail Staples liked thisAbigail Staples liked thisI’m incredibly honored to be named a 2026 AdExchanger Top Woman in Media & Ad Tech, and for the first time, I’m being recognized in Commerce Media. This one feels especially meaningful because it comes during my first year building Yellow House Collective. So much of what we’re building comes back to a pretty simple idea: lead with great cultural storytelling first, while creating meaningful ways for brands to show up that are measurable, shoppable and connected to real business outcomes. Over this first year, we’ve had the opportunity to put that thinking into practice across some incredible partnerships and campaigns. One I’m especially proud of was our work with L'Oréal’s Mugler Angel Nova and Cardi B’s Little Miss Drama Tour. It wasn’t a traditional concert sponsorship. Cardi authentically used the fragrance onstage throughout the 35-show, 32-city tour, and we extended that moment through social, digital and commerce - making the experience shoppable and measurable and helping deliver one of the brand’s strongest DTC campaigns. But for me, this recognition is really about the bigger body of work, and what we’re building at Yellow House at the intersection of culture, storytelling, media, measurement and commerce. I’m incredibly grateful to every brand, creator, partner and collaborator who has taken a chance on us in year one. There are a lot of people behind this work and we're just getting started. And yes, being recognized during Hispanic Heritage Month makes it a little more special. Our work and contributions deserve to be celebrated and invested in all year long, but I’ll always take a moment to celebrate moments like this. 💛

Kalshi just opened a "Data Driven Storyteller" role for $200k - $300k/year Spotify is hiring an "Associate Director, Owned Editorial" for $200k+ This week's roundup found these, plus 8 more $150k+ editorial roles at orgs you wouldn't think of as media companies... Everyone lost their minds when OpenAI put out a call for a Managing Editor, but the reality is, hundreds of organizations of all shapes + sizes are building full on newsrooms/editorial operations. The above Wells Fargo role will manage a 35 person content team. All these companies know that breaking through to potential customers in 2026 will take building brand, and one of the best ways to break through the noise is to tell the news in your industry, instead of waiting to be a part of it. 2) A new trick I'm playing with to expand my search: change the "Location" when searching for jobs in LinkedIn Job Search. All remote jobs are still tied to a location (eg the company HQ), and my search was defaulting to New York. When I changed my location to San Francisco (or even "United States"), an entirely new set of roles appeared. If searching roles on LinkedIn, play around with the location to ensure you aren't missing great remote roles. any roles I'm missing? I do a roundup like this every other week to help track the trend of brands building newsrooms - follow along if interested.
