Charlene Mills liked thisCharlene Mills liked thisI’m honored to share that I’ve been elected to the Board of Directors for Family Promise of Lehigh Valley. This organization is doing truly meaningful work to support families facing housing insecurity, providing not only shelter but pathways to stability and long‑term success. I’m excited to contribute my experience and energy to help strengthen and expand this mission. There is so much more we can do for families in our community, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of that work. Charlene Mills liked thisCharlene Mills liked thisI spent the past few days at the National Structured Settlements Trade Association conference in San Francisco, alongside my colleagues Philippe Petit and Harry Coleman. It was a valuable opportunity to connect with colleagues across the structured settlements community and engage in conversations shaping the future of the industry. A few themes stuck with me—not just what’s happening now, but where this market may be heading: 1) Growth is real—but what’s driving it? Optimism is high (with some projections putting annual volume at $10–12B in the next 5 years), fueled by social inflation and bigger settlements. But case volume hasn’t meaningfully increased. The big question: are we growing through adoption—or just larger outcomes? 2) From products to portfolios The framing is shifting: a structured settlement is being planned as part of a broader financial strategy—guaranteed income for immediate stability plus market-based solutions for long-term growth. This more holistic approach raises the bar on education and planning. 3) “Ease of doing business” is the edge With more annuity providers and tighter pricing, you’d think things would commoditize. Instead, insurer quality and especially case administration keep differentiating. Operational excellence is becoming a real competitive advantage. It reinforced for me how much we at MetLife can differentiate through speed, clarity, and consistency in how we support advisors and clients through the process. 4) Protecting vulnerable clients is (rightly) front and center There was meaningful discussion about stronger protections for minors—especially limiting predatory factoring outreach as they reach adulthood. It’s an important reminder that beyond growth and innovation, the long-term credibility of this industry depends on how well we protect the people it’s designed to serve. I also appreciated the opportunity to spend time at the Women’s Caucus event — a great forum for connection, perspective-sharing, and continued progress across the industry. I left feeling like this space is evolving in real time—balancing growth, innovation, and responsibility. Curious to see how these themes play out over the next few years. #StructuredSettlements #NSSTA

Being recognized this year as an inductee made the moment especially meaningful. As a first‑generation college graduate, Lehigh played a pivotal role in shaping my journey—and it remains a privilege to continue serving and supporting the university well beyond my student years. Grateful to celebrate and uplift the next generation of first‑generation scholars whose resilience, excellence, and promise inspire what comes next. My sincere thanks to the Tri‑Alpha National Organization, the Lehigh University Epsilon Chapter, and to Dr. Robert Flowers and Denise Beautreau, Tri‑Alpha co‑advisors, for their leadership and unwavering commitment to expanding access and opportunity.

Charlene Mills liked thisCharlene Mills liked thisOne of the most enjoyable parts of my job is traveling to meet our teams around the world. Last week, I was in Tampa, a key MetLife hub for several of our businesses, service and operations, and support functions. While on the ground, there’s a real sense of pride and momentum across the site, and you can feel it the moment you walk in. From being on the floor to sitting down with teams and leaders, the conversations were open, honest and clearly centered on one thing: doing right by our customers. I appreciated hearing what’s working, where the group sees opportunities and how they are continuing to push to simplify and innovate. The collaboration is strong, and Tampa is just another example of how MetLife lives its purpose - always with you, building a more confident future - every day. P.S. Go Bolts! This summer, I’ll be working on enzyme catalytic mechanisms using X-ray and neutron crystallography, with a focus on protein expression, purification, and structural analysis. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this work and gain hands-on experience with advanced instrumentation and data analysis. Thank you to Dr. Flora Meilleur and Dr. Nikolas Capra for this opportunity! I’m looking forward to learning from and working with you both. I’m also deeply appreciative of the mentors and experiences at Virginia Tech Department of Biochemistry that have shaped my path so far. Excited for what is ahead!

Charlene Mills liked thisCharlene Mills liked thisA strong New Jersey matters—to patients, to innovation, and to the future of healthcare. I was glad to attend the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce’s #ReNewJersey Business Summit, where I helped welcome Governor Mikie Sherrill for a conversation about the state’s next chapter. Johnson & Johnson has deep roots in New Jersey, which has been our home for nearly 140 years. Generations of J&J employees have lived, worked, raised families, and built meaningful careers here. We've also strengthened communities across the state through sustained volunteerism, philanthropy, and local partnership. That legacy matters. But so does what comes next. Today, about 13,000 J&J employees across the state are contributing to New Jersey’s innovation ecosystem, economic strength, and community wellbeing. And we continue to invest in the partnerships and capabilities that can help keep New Jersey competitive for the long term—from workforce development initiatives like NJBioFutures to innovation hubs like HELIX NJ in New Brunswick. Ultimately, we know progress isn’t built in silos. New Jersey’s future competitiveness depends on business, government, education, and communities working together to invest in the talent, partnerships, and modern infrastructure that allows innovation to thrive. That’s what makes events like the ReNew Jersey Business Summit so valuable. Thank you to the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce for convening such an important conversation.

Charlene Mills reacted on thisCharlene Mills reacted on thisI’m sharing something deeply personal with my network today. My husband, Tom, recently passed away. Tom was a strong, hardworking man who took immense pride in being a longshoreman and a member of the ILA. He had deep respect for the men and women he worked alongside and a genuine pride in being part of that community. The kindness and support from the ILA community has been overwhelming in the best way, and I am deeply grateful. I also want to share how incredibly fortunate I feel to be part of MetLife. The generosity and compassion from my colleagues has been beyond anything I could have imagined—through thoughtful and personal gifts, donations, cards, messages, and constant check-ins. The outreach hasn’t stopped, and it has meant more to me than I can fully express. I’m equally grateful for the support of the company itself—through leave of absence options, group insurance benefits, and programs like Empathy, Family First, and the EAP—which have provided real support and space to focus on my family during this time. In moments like this, you truly understand the heart of a company, and I feel so lucky to be surrounded by such genuinely caring people. Above everything else, Tom’s greatest love was our daughter, Francesca. She was his world. The way he showed up for her, protected her, and loved her so deeply is something I will carry with me forever. Please continue to check in on the people around you. Life is fragile, and even the strongest among us sometimes carry more than we can see. Thank you for your support during this time. ❤️ Erika https://lnkd.in/erQNGGmi

At Mercer's HR Leadership Collective 2025, MGEN President and CEO Manny Rubio joined the #CEOCircle panel on “Culture × Strategy – The Real Competitive Advantage.” He highlighted how culture and strategy must evolve together, not as separate efforts but as mutually reinforcing elements. At MGEN, this means building a culture of innovation, resilience, and shared purpose that enables people to bring strategy to life in meaningful ways. As Mr. Rubio emphasized, culture isn't just shaped by success—it helps drive it. #WeAreMGEN #PoweringProgress
