Eric Hutts liked thisEric Hutts liked thisI am honored to share that the American Chemical Society recognized the TCU Chemistry Club as an Outstanding Student Chapter for the 2024–2025 year at the national conference in Atlanta. This recognition reflects the work our incredible team accomplished over the past year during my time serving as President. I had the chance to work alongside a dedicated executive board that cared deeply about building something meaningful, from expanding outreach and mentorship programs to creating opportunities for students to get involved in chemistry beyond the classroom. I’m especially grateful to Dr. Kayla Green, Dr. Julie Fry, Dr. Heidi Conrad, the TCU Chemistry and Biochemistry Department and the TCU Davis College of Science and Engineering for their constant support of our vision. Most of all, thank you to our executive board: Audrey Dolt, Tatum Harvey,Will Stites, Aidan Meek, Ibukun Alausa, Delaney Davis, Sam Shah, Lexi Winter, and Daisy Li. This award is a direct result of your leadership, effort, and commitment throughout the year. Proud of what we built together and excited to see where the club goes next.

Today, I walked into Lancaster AI Symposium 3.0 and sat with about 100 people having a conversation I didn’t expect to find here. Lancaster, PA, known for farmland, farmers markets, and the Amish. Not exactly the city that comes to mind when someone says “AI hub.” Most AI conferences operate at the macro level. Global implications. Billion-parameter models. Nation-state competition. The conversations are important, but they can feel distant, like watching a storm from inside a building. Today felt different. No keynote hype. No VC funding announcements. Just students, faculty, and working professionals, from complete beginners to seasoned practitioners, asking what AI actually means for the people in this room, in this county, in this community. Sessions covered vibe coding, governance, security, and agentic AI. But the thread running through all of it was local: two next-generation data centers are being built in Lancaster County right now. And a community that has largely lived outside the tech conversation is waking up to the fact that AI isn’t arriving someday. It’s already here. The global story gets told constantly. What I saw today was something harder to find: a neighborhood asking its own questions, on its own terms. That might be the most important AI conversation happening right now. Eric Hutts liked thisEric Hutts liked thisMy first 1:1 with my new team's top performing rep. I asked her three questions. What's working. What's not working. What needs to change. She had been the highest performing rep on the team for nearly two years. Consistent. Reliable. The kind of rep every sales leader wants anchoring their team. What she said next stopped me cold. She was being paid in Canadian dollars. Same salary as her peers in the US. On paper it looked equal. In practice she was earning significantly less than every rep she outperformed. Every single quarter. For two years. I knew immediately it had to be fixed. When I went to get it done I ran into resistance. The compensation package had been set up by the leadership I reported to. It was not a comfortable conversation. I held firm. Not just because it was the right thing to do, which it clearly was, but because keeping your best performer happy is not a nicety. It is a business decision. Losing her would have cost us far more than fixing the disparity ever would. She was skeptical when I first told her I was going to fix it. She had been living with it long enough that she did not know if anyone would actually follow through. I came back with her salary and commissions both converted to USD. The look on her face when I delivered the news is something I have never forgotten. A few months later she closed the largest deal in company history. The best leaders I have ever been around share one trait. They ask the right questions and they actually listen to the answers. Not to check a box. To find what is broken and fix it. Your best people are telling you what they need. What have you discovered about your team simply by asking better questions?
