By October, the original founders who opened the first location in Clearwater, Florida in 1983 had bought it back. They are calling it "re-Hooterization." New menu. Better ingredients. Uniforms back to the original beach-themed look. Community events and local partnerships front and center. And a 100% franchisee-operated model — every single location now owned by an operator invested in their market. Here is what is interesting about this story: the franchisee-owned locations were performing at more than double the AUV of the corporate-operated units before the bankruptcy. The operators closest to their communities were the ones keeping the brand alive. That is not a coincidence. It is the argument for what local ownership and local activation actually does for a brand at scale. The brands that survive restructuring are the ones that figure out how to give every franchisee the tools to win in their specific market. Not just the national playbook. The local one. Hooters has been around for 42 years. The original owners clearly believe it has another 42 in it. Jonathan Pryor reacted on thisJonathan Pryor reacted on thisI approach every Long Term Disability claim the same way: as if it will ultimately be litigated.That doesn’t mean every case ends up in court. Most of our matters resolve at the administrative level. But the administrative record is often the only record the court will ever see—so how it’s built matters. From the outset, I am thinking about how the claim will read to someone who has never met the claimant, never spoken to their physicians, and will be limited to the paper record. That affects how medical evidence is developed, how occupational duties are framed, and how inconsistencies are addressed (or avoided entirely). It also means being deliberate about timing. Rushing to submit an appeal before the record is fully developed may feel productive in the moment, but it can close doors that don’t reopen later.The goal isn’t just to get through the administrative process. It’s to build a record that can withstand scrutiny—whether from a claims examiner or a federal judge. Because by the time a case reaches litigation, the opportunity to shape that record has usually already passed.
