What if we reframed the problem entirely? Instead of treating rural healthcare as a cost to be subsidized… what if we built it as community-owned infrastructure? The model shown here introduces a new approach — blending the local trust and engagement of a YMCA-style chapter network with the financial strength and participation model of a credit union. At the center sits a national nonprofit backbone, coordinating standards, outcomes, and funding. Around it: Local nonprofit chapters operate mobile healthcare services directly in their communities A cooperative finance layer enables affordable capital for deployment and scale Hospitals extend their reach through teletriage and connected care Technology platforms bring diagnostics and care directly to the patient’s doorstep Critically, this structure aligns with federal priorities through agencies like the Health Resources and Services Administration, while also opening the door to community investment and long-term sustainability. The result? A shift from grant dependency → locally supported, scalable healthcare delivery This isn’t just about access. We have successfully deployed the first autonomous PowerBuoy® system under our previously announced program supporting U.S. Coast Guard maritime domain awareness operations off the coast of California. This deployment moves the program from shipment to active operational support, demonstrating the value of persistent offshore infrastructure that can provide power, communications, and sensor integration in challenging maritime environments. Designed for long-duration missions at sea, the #PowerBuoy platform enables government and defense operators to maintain continuous maritime awareness without reliance on manned assets. Additional systems are scheduled to deploy in the coming weeks as we continue executing on this program and expanding the network. Johnson reacted on thisOne of the ideas that stayed with me from Chapter 2 of Take Care of Your People is the distinction, and the necessary relationship, between strategic thinking and systematic thinking. Paul Sarvadi, co-founder and CEO of Insperity, writes from the lens of someone who has spent decades building and leading a company focused on helping businesses grow through their people. What really stood out to me in this chapter is that strategy and systems are not the same thing, but they become incredibly powerful when they work together. Strategic thinking gives us perspective. It helps us see the bigger picture, define direction, and understand what we are truly trying to build. Systematic thinking gives that vision a way to move. It helps us create the structure, rhythm, and repeatable actions that turn ideas into reality. To me, this is where so much of the magic happens. Because vision without systems can remain abstract. And systems without vision can become motion without deeper meaning. But when the two come together, they create something much stronger: clarity with execution, vision with foundation and growth with sustainability. As someone who naturally thinks about structure, flow, and how all the moving parts connect, this really resonated with me. It was such a strong reminder that meaningful leadership is not only about having the right ideas, but about building the right frameworks to support them. I’ll be sharing more of the books that are feeding my mind lately, and this one definitely earned a place on that list. The book positions itself as a guide to building a people-centered business strategy, which makes this reflection feel especially timely.
