Mark Tuchmann shared thisThe liability fight is an argument about driver qualification wearing different hats. Increaseing coverage will not fix it and neither will more vetting. You have heard me say it before.....we need a National Commercial Driver's License(NCDL), with a real standard to enter the workforce and a credential that belongs to the driver that has value and prestige, the same structural sense in which medicine, law, accounting and others are professionals. Sounds simple....it isn't, not discounting that at all, but neither is the madness we see in these cases. U.S. Department of Transportation, Treat the root of the problem, not the symptoms! #Trucking #FMCSA #CDL #USDOT #SecretaryDuffy #TCA #ATA #ECA #CLDAMark Tuchmann shared thisA credential that belongs to the driver instead of the carrier travels with them, that single change moves the bargaining relationship, the wage and the standing to refuse an unsafe load. Mark Tuchmann shared thisI never like to talk politics and I won't now but I watched the Hulk Hogan documentary this weekend and this brought me back to my teenage years We need a 2026 Hulk Hogan to turn this country positive like in 1980...tie a yellow ribbon!! BTW, my hometown, Hamden, CT was home to a few of the stars of WWE growing up, Tony Garea(his sons Ivan and Paul were high school buds) and Rick Martell were tag team champions. Maybe one that is more recognizable, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson attended Shepherd Glen Elementary School and Hamden Middle School during his early years...hate to say...he is 6 years my junior! https://lnkd.in/gMY6teEmFULL MATCH: Iron Sheik vs. Hulk Hogan | WWE Title Match: WWE at MSG, Jan. 23, 1984FULL MATCH: Iron Sheik vs. Hulk Hogan | WWE Title Match: WWE at MSG, Jan. 23, 1984

Mark Tuchmann shared thisWOW... Amazon Flex driver in an open pickup...is this 2026? Had to post this as it took me straight back to my naive early days in Last-Mile courier, when, if a driver had a heartbeat, a car and a cell phone, they were hired. In 1991, one of my drivers used an open bed pickup for his route. A bank bag (maybe a few, for an undisclosed bank, maybe starts with a B, 3 words, ending with A) flew out of the bed and was never recovered. Hard lessons that day that shaped both of my careers in Transportation and Insurance: Reputation and Brand exposure - Thousands of checks to reconstruct, their customers inconvenienced, their name and logo on all of it. Not mine, not the driver's, a bad day = when you publish your customer's brand on the nightly news $3.3M face value cargo claim - Seven figures riding loose in a pickup bed and nobody had asked whether the correct coverage were in place, luckily we were able to recover the majority but still was 1m limit loss No controls, No training, No safety program - A pulse and a license is the floor, not a program. I had hired a driver who usually got the job done and that was just unacceptable going forward I could keep going but those lessons changed my trajectory. They are the reason BeavEx, Inc. became a National Platform, the reason the doors opened in London and the reason Insurance became my second career. I hope Amazon takes note, this is not the image a company that rebuilt global logistics wants representing it. I am sure my old Last-Mile brethren at ECA: A Delivery Industry Alliance and Customized Logistics and Delivery Association (CLDA) have their own version of this story, most of us do! My Monday rant.... #LastMile #RiskManagement #FleetSafety #TransportationInsurance #Logistics

Mark Tuchmann shared thisAndy Kuchar with Centerline Insurance Company is right that Broker Trailer Pools are badly underinsured. That said, in my eyes, solving the coverage gap is needed but opens bigger issues for the Broker, Control and Duty I also agree with Craig Fuller that managing trailers as an asset carrier and as a broker are not the same business and with Julie Van de Kamp, who put it plainly, Brokers don't know anything about trailers or how to manage them. We saw the shift in California after AB5, the Owner Operator became the Motor Carrier and the Motor Carrier became the Broker. What did not move were the trailers and the dollies. The party now calling itself a Broker still owned the equipment and was providing them to what is now, the Motor Carrier. A Broker supplying the trailers and buying over-the-road liability and physical damage coverage on them creates the documentation that goes to the question that these cases are decided on Evidence of insurance is not admissible to prove you were negligent, Federal Rule of Evidence 411 says so but the same rule says a court may admit it for "proving agency, ownership, or control." That is not a side issue in a Broker case, it is the borrowed employee finding in Lipe, It is the Broker versus Motor Carrier argument and it is the fourth prong of the Home Depot case, which the shipper won partly because it did not supply anything dangerous. The trailer creates the exposure, the policy proves it The bottom line, a true Freight Broker should not own or supply the trailers. If you are furnishing the equipment, you are not brokering the load. #FreightBrokers #TransportationRisk #TruckingLaw ##Insurance #freightwavesMark Tuchmann shared thisFreight brokers often face hidden risks with their trailer insurance. Andy Kuchar, President of Centerline Insurance Company, reveals why many trailers are "criminally underinsured" and how common policies exclude crucial over-the-road coverage.Trailer Insurance: Risks & Coverage Gaps for Freight BrokersTrailer Insurance: Risks & Coverage Gaps for Freight Brokers

Reagan called those the nine most terrifying words in the English language, I've gotten a lot of mileage out of that line over the years. The Coast Guard, 236 years of continuous operation, a little fact for you, my hometome, TOWN OF HULL, Massachusetts and the US Coast Guard the station at Point Allerton. The Lifesaving Station was built in 1889, and its first commander was a Hull native, Joshua James, who is considered a "Father" of the US Coast Guard and actually holds the title of the home of Coast Guard search and rescue. Mark Tuchmann liked thisMark Tuchmann liked this🥁 WHAT 58 YEARS IN ROCK & ROLL TAUGHT ME ABOUT BEATING THE ODDS I've spent most of my life behind a drum kit. I've toured and recorded with some of the biggest names in music—Cyndi Lauper, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Bo Diddley, Johnny Winter, The Monkees and many others. And after 58 years in one of the most unpredictable businesses on the planet, I've learned something: Talent is important. But talent alone isn't enough. I've watched incredibly talented people succeed. I've watched incredibly talented people fail. And the difference often had very little to do with talent. The people who survive—and thrive—develop something deeper. Belief when nobody else believes yet. Enthusiasm - positive anticipation of future events using visualization. Attitude - the realization that positivity is a CHOICE! Tenacity when quitting would be easier. And Service - because some of the biggest opportunities of my life began when I did something for someone else without expecting anything in return. Those five principles became what I call B.E.A.T.S. *Belief *Enthusiasm *Attitude *Tenacity *Service They're lessons I learned in Rock & Roll. But today I see them every time I work with CEOs, leaders and organizations. Because whether you're leading a company or playing onstage in front of 20,000 people… You still have to show up. Listen. Adapt. Serve the team. And deliver when it counts. That's how you BEAT THE ODDS—in business and in life. Over the next several weeks, I'm going to share some of the stories—and lessons—behind those 58 years. Some funny. Some painful. Some involving people you definitely know. And every one of them taught me something. Here's my question for you: *Which matters most when the odds are against YOU — Belief, Enthusiasm, Attitude, Tenacity or Service? #TheRockandRollThoughtLeader #GratefulSpeaker #GratefulDrumma #Leadership #BeatTheOdds #BEATS #LeadershipDevelopment

Connecticut Food Bank recently honored the 2014 Hunger Action Heroes at an awards ceremony hosted by WTNH News 8’s Morning News Anchor Chris Velardi, and attended by more than 100 at the East Haven warehouse. The heroes are individuals, businesses and organizations that go above and beyond to support Connecticut Food Bank in its mission to provide nutritious food to people in need. The ceremony is held annually in September, designated as Hunger Action Month, supported by Citizens Bank Foundation.
Mark Tuchmann of Rocky Hill was presented with The Bill Liddell Award – the highest tribute paid by Connecticut Food Bank to an individual, organization or corporation in recognition of exemplary service, ongoing dedication and significant support of the Food Bank and its mission. The award was named after Bill Liddell who supported the Food Bank by donating a total of 104 tons of fresh produce, as well as time and funds. He spent six years on Connecticut Food Bank’s Board of Directors.
“The heroes we honor are men, women and organizations who go beyond the call of duty to make a difference and improve the lives of the people we serve – time and time again,” said Connecticut Food Bank President & CEO Nancy L. Carrington told the honorees. “It is our pleasure to pay tribute to you and your efforts.”
In addition, Connecticut Food Bank recognized top individual and team fundraisers who participated in the 2014 Walk Against Hunger, held in New Haven, Bridgeport, Norwich and Waterbury. Those events raised more than $280,000 to support hunger-relief efforts in Connecticut.

🚛 When traditional insurance markets pulled out of the large fleet space, XPO’s VP of Risk Management, Ash Kilada, faced a tough call: absorb massive volatility — or find a smarter path forward. In our latest blog, Ash shares how structured programs + captive strategy helped him bridge a $15M coverage gap — and why this approach is gaining traction as hard markets persist across sectors like transportation, cyber, and property. If you’re grappling with rising premiums and shrinking capacity, this is a must-read. 🔗https://hubs.li/Q03Wx79S0 #alternativerisktransfer #captiveinsurance #riskmanagement #hardmarket #captive #strategy

As supply chains become more complex and the market tightens, resilience and protection have never been more important. We’re seeing a growing trend where LTL carrier liability limits are being reduced or removed altogether, leaving shippers and brokers exposed when the unexpected happens. At Loadsure, our mission is to bridge that protection gap, making it faster and easier to safeguard every shipment, no matter the size or mode. A great post from our Head of Partnerships on why this matters and how to stay ahead of the curve 👇 🔎 Set up your free Loadsure profile and explore what modern, data-driven cargo protection looks like. #SupplyChain #Resilience #Logistics #Insurance #FreightTech

Rob Carpenter has some good points. It is much easier for Insurance Carriers to to cancel policies or step up their underwriting requirements than it is to pass regulations or enact laws. I have studied this data using https://www.bluewire.ai/ who has been doing this analysis for five years on numerous data sources on over 700,000 Interstate Motor Carriers, plus insurance information, judicial hell holes and more. The data speak for itself. Nice job.

Scale won’t save you in P&C. In our latest HighPoint InSights feature, analysis of the top 100 U.S. carriers shows that Winners aren’t the biggest, most geographically advantaged, or the most acquisitive. In fact, Winners are smaller on average than Laggards. So what separates outperformers? They’re making sharper strategic choices: ✅ Concentrating in commercial & specialty lines ✅ Diversifying across more states ✅ Leveraging the advantages of public ownership The result: leaders are compounding their advantage while others fall further behind.
