Kevin Nason reposted thisWhen companies are successful, it is natural for the public to assume that the success is a result of the leaders making greater decisions and influencing their teams to succeed. What the world doesn’t talk about is that those leaders: ➤ Go forward, trust their teams, clients and partners immensely. ➤ They set motivations intentionally even during difficult times, by observing from outside, preparing for alternatives and take one step after the other, even when the risks are clearly obvious. They take account of every single weakness, flaws, misinterpretations, consequences and find a way to manage their people, systems to make the business work, at least not for their own benefit but for the collective success. This was a puzzle; I tried to understand for long. What does an entrepreneur really need? The Skill, the Chance? The Now or Never kinda motivation? The Never-say-Never- attitude? The Do or Die Mindset? I didn’t know the answer then. I still don’t know the answer, to date!! All I know is, it’s a mix of all and being an entrepreneur needs a real-world gut to take a business idea to work, year on year, consistently!! I spend a lot of time thinking about how Shanthi Rajaram must have gone beyond the ordinary and set the records for herself and us, and still be able to continue the ambitions, thus leading and sustaining the momentum. Her underlying logic is, simple! ❇ ‘Discipline’ – the best thing I am tyring to learn from her! No matter how many times I have failed, she has guided and has been guiding through and helping us survive! I am proud will be an understatement, but I couldn’t describe my feeling in simpler terms, “I am blessed! We dropped our daughter off at college, and I wasn’t prepared for how hard it would be to drive away without her. I knew this day was coming. I was excited for her. I was proud of her. But driving away without her was much harder than I expected. And I didn’t want to rush myself into feeling normal again. So I gave myself a few days. To miss her. To feel the emptiness at home. To be sad. And at the same time, to feel incredibly proud of the young woman she has become. Because she is ready. She is strong, independent, curious and excited to figure things out on her own. As a parent, that’s exactly what you spend all those years preparing them for. Still, preparing them to leave and actually watching them leave are two very different things. Before we left, I told her one thing: Never forget the values we raised you with. And as I said it, I realized those were almost the same words my dad said to me years ago. Go explore. Meet new people. Try new things. Make your own decisions. Learn from your mistakes. But know who you are and remember the values you grew up with. I’ve been thinking about that a lot this week. As parents, we spend years teaching our children what matters, hoping that when we’re no longer there to guide every decision, those values will guide them. Leadership isn’t all that different. You can give people advice, direction and opportunities. But eventually, you have to trust them to make their own decisions. Maybe one of the hardest parts of both parenting and leadership is knowing when to stop holding on and start trusting. To all the parents dropping kids off at college or sending them back this year, I’m right there with you❤️ For those who’ve been through this before, does the letting go ever get easier? #Parenting #CollegeMoveIn #ProudMom
