Scott Warren shared thisNo one expresses what “restoration as shared investment” means better than Alexandra Cousteau. One of the smartest and truest voices in conserving and restoring our oceans.Scott Warren shared thisMy grandfather helped make people care about the ocean. My father helped turn that care into action. That legacy shaped my life. But it also forced me to confront a hard truth: We can spend decades protecting what remains and still fail to rebuild what has already been lost. Conservation is essential. But on its own, it cannot bring the ocean back. That is the argument in my first essay for Edition Blue:

Scott Warren reposted thisScott Warren reposted thisAugmented Reality. Virtual Reality. Top Gun 3. World War Z 2. Fascinating to watch how Paramount Skydance, CBS Entertainment Group, and CBS News & Stations continue to invest in immersive storytelling across every screen. CBS Detroit is the latest CBS O&O station to launch an AR/VR news studio. The first of its kind in the Detroit market. This immersive technology elevates weather coverage and local storytelling, creating a more dynamic and engaging news experience. AR/VR on WWJ–CBS-Detroit goes live today, April 20. Paramount Pictures made waves at CinemaCon by leaning heavily into major franchise titles like Top Gun 3, G.I. Joe, World War Z 2, Street Fighter, Star Trek, Sonic the Hedgehog 4, and A Quiet Place Part III. A strategy to continue delivering big screen thrills while building a strong pipeline of blockbuster content to eventually premier on Paramount+. Different screens, one goal: give audiences meaningful opportunities to connect through immersive, experiential and engaging storytelling.

Scott Warren reposted thisDream Big. Innovate Boldly. Redefine Weather Storytelling. If you live and breathe weather — local, regional, national, and especially severe — this is your moment. CBS in Northern California is building a state‑of‑the‑art weather initiative with massive scope and even bigger ambition. We’re building something brand new… and we’re looking for the creative visionary who will help lead it. We need someone who is: • Equal parts lifeguard and storyteller — able to protect our communities with clarity and urgency, while bringing the wonder of weather to life in unforgettable ways. • A bold thinker and dreamer — unafraid to break from “how it’s always been done” and eager to reinvent how weather information is presented. • A mentor and a leader — someone ready to inspire and elevate a dynamic weather team. • Passionate about presentation — someone who loves not just the science of weather, but the art of explaining it. This is your chance to shape the future of weather communication in one of the most stunning climates in the nation. If you’re ready to build something groundbreaking—and have a blast doing it—we want to meet you! Los Angeles is moving to reduce permitting red tape for film and television production- smart step. Production hasn't been anchored to geography for some time — it’s anchored to operating efficiency. Predictable timelines. Permitting speed. Incentives and infrastructure that save dollars and put that spend on the screen. Is this enough? #StudioOperations #ProductionInfrastructure #MediaEconomics #FilmIndustry https://lnkd.in/eJqfxWcp

Combo Directing April 29, 2008 Simultaneously: Direct, TD, run fonts, route lives, and cue the prompter to correct spot. CNN Pipeline and CNN.com/live were two former live streaming services offered by CNN that reflected the network’s early efforts to embrace digital video content. #CNN Pipeline (launched in 2005, discontinued in 2007) was CNN’s first subscription-based streaming news service. It provided multiple live video streams, on-demand video clips, and archival footage. Users could choose among up to four simultaneous live feeds, including raw news footage without anchors, offering a behind-the-scenes look at news gathering. It was marketed as a premium service, separate from CNN’s regular website, and cost approximately $2.95/month or $24.95/year. CNN.com/live replaced Pipeline in 2007 and was integrated into CNN’s main website. Unlike Pipeline, it was free and ad-supported. It focused on streaming major live news events and breaking news coverage, often simulcasting CNN television content or providing exclusive live events not shown on TV. It represented CNN’s shift to a more accessible, open model of online video content as streaming became more mainstream. Both services were early digital innovations that laid the groundwork for CNN’s current live streaming strategy and its digital platforms like CNNgo. #CNNPipeline #CNNLive #CNN.com/live #StreamingMedia #DigitalInnovation #NewsTechnology #OnlineVideo #MediaHistory #DigitalTransformation #BroadcastingEvolution #StreamingNews #MediaIndustry #NewsInnovation #DigitalMedia #OnDemandNews #LiveStreaming

Hot off the press: we now offer speaker identification in our Captivate captions. For years automatic speech recognition has struggled to include statistically accurate change-of-speaker indication in live captions, usually double chevrons or dashes (>> and -). We're now not only improving that accuracy, we've incorporated a voice-imprint process to correctly add speaker names. Full speaker identification has historically been most common in sporting events, where the announcers are not frequently on camera. I personally rely on captions to tell me if I should blame >> Colinsworth: or >> Tirico: when my team loses (and they always lose). Do you notice speaker changes when you watch live captions? Does it make a difference to you to know who is speaking? It's in the FCC Caption Quality best practices I helped author over ten years ago now, but I'm curious to know viewer opinions have changed?

Huge News For Radio. More people listen to radio now than 20 years ago, but it hasn't been measured with the same precision as digital - until now. The pixel based solution from MagellenAI will measure radio attribution the same as podcasts showing the true impact of a full audio stack. https://lnkd.in/geU3XuqH

As the discussion of television ad revenue evolves and adapts, traditional broadcasters are rethinking their stance on the digital giants. Amazon and Roku, once rivals, are now partners. Disney, famously protective, is now opening the door to outside ad ecosystems. Simply, there seems to be a trend of networks using existing infrastructure that Amazon, Google, Facebook, and others have built. As we see the merging of the linear and digital ad space, we also see the convergence of networks collaborating with these advertising tech companies. It creates a new array of possibilities and integration. An interesting take from Michael Shields - https://lnkd.in/e_qjCDaW

Film and television production in and around Los Angeles has been at an all-time low in recent years. Red tape and complex permitting processes have made it harder to keep production in LA. But the Los Angeles City Council adopted a motion streamlining the film permitting process and eliminating regulatory obstacles to film and television production in LA. I spoke to LA City Councilmember Adrin Nazarian on "In Focus SoCal" about the Keep Hollywood Home initiative, and how it's going to get Hollywood GOING again! Watch the full interview on the Spectrum News 1 SoCal website.

At the 2025 NAB Show, a panel featuring Dara Kalvort and John Parikhal broke down how tools like ChatGPT, DeepL, Waymark, and Futuri are helping broadcasters solve real problems: quick translations in local dialects, on-the-fly ad creation, and even AI-powered overnight hosts. But it’s not plug-and-play. Lazy inputs get lazy outputs. Strategy, context, and good ol’ human judgment still run the show. AI won’t save your station, but it might save your team time, money, and missed opportunities, if used right. Read More: https://lnkd.in/dsciXBV8 #AI #Radio #AIRadio

Rick Porter in a piece called “A Slow-Motion Eulogy for the TV Industry” in the The Hollywood Reporter - writes about the demise of once untouchable daytime and night time talk shows like Kelly Clarkson, Sherri Shepherd and Stephen Colbert “What will replace the Clarkson and Shepherd shows, and Late Night, remains to be seen. If the local stations that will be buying programs to fill those hours follow the current trend, though, it could well be a video podcast. Netflix, Hulu and Fox’s free streamer Tubi have all cut deals to feature such shows recently, hoping to keep pace with (or maybe siphon some viewers from) YouTube, which is the most watched TV platform in part on the back of podcasts that put a camera in their studios. They’re also much cheaper, not usually employing unionized crews, and operate with a fraction of the staff of a traditional talk show. They’re also not really meant to be watched, in the sense that a viewer will be looking at the screen while it plays. They’re meant to be on, driving up time spent — or “engagement” — in the most passive way possible, half-heard while scrolling through social media or doing something around the house. “ #tv #podcast (Link in comments)

Spanish Radio: The Beating Heart of Latino Los Angeles It happened again Saturday Night at the Pico Rivera Sports Arena in the heart of Latino Los Angeles. The crowd was buzzing for the headliner, but when the radio host stepped out to introduce the act, thousands of fans leapt to their feet, screaming and chanting—not yet for the star, but for the familiar voice of the radio personality they hear every day. That moment says everything about the place Spanish radio holds in Latino life. It’s not just a medium—it’s a companion. Families tune in at home in the kitchen or around a backyard barbecue. It’s there in the car, guiding the commute. It’s the soundtrack of the agricultural fields and the construction sites. Spanish radio is woven into the rhythm of daily life in a way no algorithm can replace. The roots run deep. In rural Mexico and much of Central America—where so many Latino immigrants trace their origins—as recently as 20 years ago, many communities had sparse TV access and relied primarily on radio for news, music, and companionship.... whole towns turned to radio as their lifeline. That habit crossed the border with them. That’s why Spanish radio is thriving in 2025, even as other forms of audio splinter under digital pressure. Some media planners assume Latinos consume digital content just like they do—Spotify, Pandora, TikTok replacing traditional formats. But the data tells a different story with respect to Spanish Radio. Nielsen has repeatedly shown high weekly reach among Hispanic listeners and strong loyalty to radio personalities and formats, even as streaming grows. And while Latinos are among the heaviest streamers, they overwhelmingly stream their favorite Radio Stations. Virtually, every major Spanish-language concert promoter puts the bulk of their ad budgets into radio. Car dealers and retailers rely on Spanish radio because, when used properly.... it delivers a real steady flow of customers. Local retail ad spend remains strong on Spanish Radio, even as national buys have dropped nearly 40% at times during this Summer. When it comes to moving product, nothing works better than a steady schedule of 24–30 spots a week—as long as the creative is strong. On the other hand, a weak spot is a wasted investment--a great reason to hire advertising professionals who understand the culture. Too often, some media buyers assume that the general market media strategies that work in English are directly transferable to a Spanish strategy. They just don’t. Having a true cultural specialist on your side is the difference between reaching an audience—or missing them entirely. Since my dad purchased KWKW in 1962, I’ve seen firsthand, time and time again, that Spanish radio is a cultural institution with a deeply rooted, heartfelt connection to its listeners. So if you want to reach Latino consumers today, just turn up the radio dial.
