Sergio Gutierrez shared thisI haven't gone looking for a report in months. I just ask. Somewhere between meetings, my habits changed. Claude has become my EA in everything but the job title. A pipeline summary waits for me before my first call. When a deal moves or goes quiet, an alert fires before anyone has to tell me. Deal reviews come with the MEDDPICC gaps already flagged. And I built myself a Forecast Coverage Cockpit that answers the questions I used to chase through spreadsheets. Where do we stand against the number? Where are the red flags? How are deals actually converting stage to stage? Are we efficient where it counts? Seconds, not all the tabs. My team has noticed. I admitted recently that I spend a lot of time with Claude. Or as I call him, Klause. One of our product managers turned me into a poster (see below). Fair. When your team can roast the CRO, you're doing something right. So when our product team shipped Pulse AI, I recognized the behavior immediately. A store manager mid-shift asks how conversion is tracking against the same day last week. A regional lead asks which stores underperformed and by how much, and walks into Monday's call with the answer instead of spending twenty minutes building it. No hunting for the right report. No waiting on the analytics team. Ask the question where it occurs to you, get the answer from your own measured data, act while it still matters. The speed is the obvious win. The real one is reach. Anyone can ask a useful question on day one, including the folks who only log in occasionally. More people asking better questions, faster. That changes what a team can do in a week. And Pulse AI runs on Anthropic's Claude. So Klause has a day job too, apparently. Pulse AI is included in every RetailNext subscription at no additional cost. The team wrote up how it works. Worth the read. Link in the comments. #AI #RetailAnalytics #RetailTech #Leadership Anthropic Anees A.ic Anees A.

Sergio Gutierrez reposted thisSergio Gutierrez reposted thisTwo years ago, the AI question for retail leaders was "should we have a strategy?" 🤔 Now it's "which parts of our stack actually hold up?" RetailNext CRO Sergio Gutierrez makes the case that legacy traffic counters, built decades ago to answer one question (how many people walked in), can't become the foundation for AI-native retail. Hardware that reports a number doesn't turn into software that learns from patterns. The retailers pulling ahead aren't waiting for AI strategy to catch up to their infrastructure. They're fixing the infrastructure first. Sergio Gutierrez shared thisI once flew to the wrong city for one of the biggest meetings of my career. Early in my RetailNext days, our team had a potential global deal with Nike, and I was flying in to support them. A meeting and lunch with the decision makers at their HQ in Portland. The catch? For weeks before that, I had been working with our GTM teams on other deals, all based in Seattle. So when I booked the flight, autopilot took over and I booked... Seattle. Didn't think twice. Here's the part that still gets me. The gate agent announced boarding for Seattle. The pilot announced our descent into Seattle. None of it registered. I walked out of the airport, saw the Seattle sign, and that's when it hit me. That's the thing about autopilot. You hear what you expect to hear. Cue the minor panic. Quick math. Portland is a good two and a half to three hours away by car and the meeting is today. I found an Uber driver and offered him $200 cash for the drive. He happily agreed. (This was several years ago. I like to think I made his day.) One very long Uber ride later, I walked into Nike HQ five minutes before the meeting started. I told the room the story right away. Best icebreaker I've ever had. It humanized me and the whole situation more than any polished opening ever could. And the ending I couldn't have scripted? The team won the deal. Nike has been a customer ever since. We all make mistakes. What matters is how we handle them. Own it fast, stay calm, find your version of the $200 Uber, and be willing to laugh at yourself. I still tell this story at SKOs. A completely boneheaded mistake. But I was five minutes early. At least that's how I remember it... Remember this one, Kate C. and Brent Wells?? #Leadership #Sales #Retail

Sergio Gutierrez reposted thisSergio Gutierrez reposted thisRetail loss prevention has changed dramatically in the last decade. Omnichannel growth, rising theft, and pressure to keep the customer experience frictionless mean the old playbook no longer holds. We sat down with Randall Meadows, a loss prevention and security executive who has led programs at Kohl's, Nike, Stage Stores, and Mervyn's, including building Nike's program from the ground up, to get his read on where the industry stands today. In our latest blog, Randall shares his perspective on: 💡 What separates retailers achieving 1% shrink from those stuck at industry averages of 2% to 5% 💡 Where #AI and computer vision are genuinely changing outcomes, and where the hype outpaces the results 💡 How to balance security measures with a frictionless shopping experience 💡 Practical advice for building or modernizing a loss prevention program today Read the full interview 👉 https://lnkd.in/g9-qBitp #LossPrevention #AssetProtection #RetailStrategyRandall Meadows Thought Leadership: Retail Loss Prevention TodayRandall Meadows Thought Leadership: Retail Loss Prevention Today

Sergio Gutierrez shared thisPeople picture the CRO job as board decks and big deals. 👀 Let me tell you what last week actually looked like. Forecast calls that follow the sun. EMEA at 8 AM, APAC after dinner, Tokyo answering overnight. A longtime customer question where the right move was picking up the phone, not sending another email. A note to a candidate at 9 PM, because good people shouldn't wait on a busy week. And in between all of that, in the few minutes you get to inhale a snack and refill the water bottle for the third time, the unscheduled calls start. CEO, CFO, COO, sales reps, account managers, CSMs, retail experts, etc. The list goes on. If I somehow get five quiet minutes, I'm toying with Claude Code, seeing what else I can automate. My calendar stopped pretending to be accurate years ago. None of it is an interruption to the job. It is the job. I keep two rules. Cameras on, even on internal calls. We're a global team that almost never shares a room, so we make one. (Yes, everyone loves this rule. Especially at 7 AM.) And get outside. Move around. Work out. Whatever recharges your mind and body, protect it like a meeting. One more I hold myself to: bring positive, optimistic energy to every call. It keeps all of us constructive and clear headed. That's what makes a team resilient when the challenge shows up. Here's the thing. I love psychology. So much that I went to school for it. And I use it more than anything else I ever studied. In almost every interaction I'm reading the room: how my energy is landing, what's being said, what's being held back, what actually drives the person on the other side. Coaching, selling, parenting, strategy sessions. It's all psychology. Ask my kids. They get the full treatment. The big deals still matter. But this is what the job actually is. And it's the best part. Sometimes... #Leadership #SalesLeadership #RevenueLeadership

Sergio Gutierrez reposted thisSergio Gutierrez reposted thisMost procurement evaluations start with the wrong question: "Does this platform meet our requirements?" This gets you a vendor that clears the bar and nothing more... The better question, the one enterprise retailers should be asking: "What is our team doing differently because of the platform we have?" 🤔 In our latest blog, RetailNext CRO Sergio Gutierrez breaks down what actually separates analytics platforms once you get past the spec sheet: staffing decisions built on real data, portfolio benchmarking that holds up across thousands of stores, and a data layer that serves operations, marketing, merchandising, and the C-suite without forcing anyone to translate. Sergio Gutierrez liked thisSergio Gutierrez liked thisI was an undrafted rookie with a $2,000 signing bonus when Tom Brady walked up and introduced himself. It was my first day in New England, I was 21, and I was still digging through my bag making sure I had my notebook and everything else for meetings. I felt somebody walking toward me and I just kept getting more flustered, and then he got close and said, hey Kenny, I'm Tom. I was too star struck to get much of anything back. What I found out later was that the whole building did it. The vets learned the rookies before we ever showed up, where we went to school, all of that. And it was our job as rookies to do the same, that was the culture. If the best player in the world knows the guy with the least amount of money invested in him, you start believing you're supposed to be there. After I left New England to play in Indianapolis I made it my thing to learn the names of everyone in the building, front office to custodial staff, because someone did that for me. The person vacuuming the carpet after practice matters the same to me as the guy under center.

Finding the early adopters who believe in your vision, values and product is bloody hard when bringing a new product to a region with limited proof points. It’s a relationship that has to be built on absolute trust and clear, tangible, shared outcomes. All familiar and comfortable to a brand with an ethos of "Defy Ordinary". It’s so energising to see the full circle complete. From reconnecting with the legend Richard Noon at Retail Technology Show in March last year, to meeting Shannon Osman and her awesome team including Dale Hare, Josh Atkinson, Liam Harvey (another familiar face!), Brett Llewellyn, Shaynul Uddin, Marcos Landim and many more - all the way to a 2 week full fleet launch of the MVP, onboarding the rest of the Zipline platform’s modules shortly after and then seeing a case study with tangible results based on the business case we co-authored only a year ago. ⭐ Did we reduce time wasted by store managers on admin - ✅ ⭐ Is execution more consistent - ✅ ⭐ Did we consolidate 6 platforms and apps to 1 - ✅ ⭐ Did it have an impact on engagement/turnover - ✅ ⭐ Did we get live in 6 weeks as promised - ✅ ⭐ Has it had a tangible impact on business performance - ✅ These guys have helped me with countless reference calls and project/product advice through their deep experience in retail operations and staying at the cutting edge of retail technology. I’m truly grateful for their continued collaboration, it’s an absolute pleasure to work with you all and I’m stoked to see the project’s continued success and impact on the business. "The fact that Alex Henry ran an onsite workshop in his second week at Zipline, proved enough to me that this would be easy for the stores to adopt!" Case study in the comments!

Sergio Gutierrez liked thisSergio Gutierrez liked thisThis is one of the most exciting -- and fun -- programs that I've had the chance to work on at Vectra AI. We declared this week to be AI Innovation Week inside Vectra. We've got dozens of teams with subject matter experts and builders from every organization in the company working on AI-related projects to help our customers and make our business more efficient. And we've made time this week for every employee to invest in learning and expanding their AI skills. What's inspired me most is seeing experienced AI builders rolling up their sleeves, sharing their expertise and working shoulder to shoulder with AI novices. This generosity and teamwork is going to make us an even better, faster, nimbler organization. I can't wait to see what we've built at the end of the week. Thanks to everyone at Vectra for embracing this challenge with such enthusiasm, curiosity and teamwork! #VectraAI #AIInnovationWeek

Most 1:1s fail before they even start. - If your prep happens in the 90 seconds between meetings… - If the agenda turns into a deal review… - If your rep leaves without clarity or coaching… You’re not alone. I made those same mistakes early in my leadership career. And after a decade of leading sales teams, I kept seeing the same pattern across every org. 1:1s weren’t broken because managers lacked skill, they were broken because managers lacked structure. So I built something simple to fix that. 👉 The One-on-One Generator: https://lnkd.in/egsbuGze Here’s what it gives you: ✔️ Performance context ✔️ Priority alignment ✔️ Development prompts ✔️ Targeted coaching questions ✔️ Commitments and next steps Just enter a few details: rep name, quota progress, recent performance, and meeting focus and with one click, it generates a customized 1:1 agenda you can use immediately. No fluff. No generic templates. Just sharper, more intentional conversations that actually move performance. Whether you’re leading reps or leading leaders, I built this to help make your 1:1s more consistent, more impactful, and far easier to run. Hope it helps. Try it out this week and let me know how it goes.
