Mike joined Tilled almost 5 years ago to solve our ISV integration problem. Every time he would solve one problem he would ask what was next. Selflessly slogging through tough problem after tough problem. The last 5 years certainly haven’t been easy. There’s been a lot of up and downs, but I am thankful that I have had Mike by my side every step of the way. The Chief Innovation Officer title is a bet on where the payments industry is going, not where it’s been. Mike is leading the charge on AI experimentation and development here at Tilled. This promotion is long overdue and well deserved. Tony McDonald liked thisTony McDonald liked thisSomeone on my team logged 211 hours of work in a single day. 🤯 Not 211 hours at a keyboard. He was running a fleet of AI agents orchestrated in parallel. Building, testing, reviewing, refining, security reviews. All with one person directing traffic. A month of output. Compressed into a Tuesday. 👀 I've been skeptical of most AI noise in payments. Most of it is a chatbot bolted onto a dashboard. What's happening inside Tilled right now is a different animal. A few things I've learned lately: 1. The bottleneck has shifted. For years the constraint was how fast we could build. Now it's knowing what's worth building. Proper scoping and product judgment are the scarce inputs. 2. Leverage is asymmetrical. Give ten agents to someone who deeply understands the problem and you get a month of progress in a one day. Give them to someone who doesn't and you get a month of cleanup. 3. You can't mandate adoption. The people getting these results didn't sit through a PowerPoint training session. They got curious, hit the limits, and figured out workarounds to make it all work. My job is to encourage the team, make sure there’s a safe space for experimentation, and pay the ever increasing Anthropic bill. 😂 When you’re competing against behemoths like Stripe, we can’t afford to limit ourselves to a standard 40 hour work week. 211 hours a day might not be the norm every single day, but that kind of output in bursts is how we stay ahead of the curve. That’s why Tilled is setting the new standard in embedded payments. If you're waiting for AI to be proven before you let your team run at it, good luck closing that gap. 🫡
