He's the most cheerful yet decisive problem-solver and is now open to opportunities in technical program management or software engineering.Tuyen Truong shared thisI had just hit my 3 year mark as a software engineer when Expedia made tough business decisions that affected my role. At the time, I was getting ready to transition internally into a technical program manager position and was so excited to apply my technical skills with social strengths. Although I was disappointed, I was grateful for all the learning opportunities and work that my team accomplished. I’m especially proud of the accessibility work I contributed to improve screen reader experiences. While a TPM role feels more aligned to my personal strengths and I would love a chance to prove myself, I understand how it could be a risk to hire someone with no formal industry TPM experience. To keep my options wide, I’m open to both TPM and software engineering roles. If you know of anyone looking for a TPM with strong communication and technical proficiency, or a full stack web developer focusing on React/Kotlin with AWS experience, I would appreciate the shout out. During my career break, I got engaged to my high school sweetheart, attended my first music festival, and tackled various house projects. The last 48 hours have been overwhelming and I'm still processing everything that happened. For now, I'm making a list bubble tea cafes and bakeries that I wanna check out. Tuyen Truong liked thisTuyen Truong liked thisApplied for a job on July 6th. Got the interview call on July 8th. Interviewed on July 16th. Got a design test on July 24th. Submitted it on July 28th. Final interview on August 6th. The final interview went really well. Salary was discussed, I got positive feedback, and at this point I was pretty sure I was waiting for the offer letter. Except… I wasn’t. 😂 I was waiting for a rejection. Followed up multiple times. Waited. Followed up again. Waited some more. And finally: rejected. 6 weeks, multiple rounds, a design test and several follow-ups just to end with thank you for your time. 🥲 Anyway, back to job hunting. If you know of any UX/UI, Product, Visual or Graphic Design roles, please send them my way. ❤️

Tuyen Truong reacted on thisTuyen Truong reacted on thisAs of today, real-time payments are live on Mercury Business and Personal accounts on Column. They’re instant, free, and available 24/7/365. Bringing a new payment rail to Mercury was a fun technical challenge, but the biggest hurdle was making sure our customers could take advantage of it. Two major research themes shaped our approach: 1. Once a payment method preference is set for a specific recipient, it’s locked in. In theory, folks were excited about getting access to a free instant transfer, but in reality it’s a tall order to have someone re-evaluate their payment choices in the moment. 2. Even though they’re ✨ magic ✨, real-time payments aren’t always the answer. People have specific reasons for using different payment types (ex: a contract that specifies payment via ACH). To navigate these competing needs we built out a system that proactively validates whether a recipient’s routing number is part of the RTP network. If we see that a customer’s ACH or domestic wire could be completed via real-time payment instead, we surface the option and pre-fill the payment details on the sender’s behalf. It’s one click on the surface and a complex network of flowcharts and API calls underneath (my favorite!). They prompt before they've formed an opinion and spend most of their time reacting to what AI generates for them. It's sad to see designers handing the wheel to AI instead of stepping into the driver's seat. Tom Takigayama's approach: sketch more, write more, and just generally *think* a lot before you prompt. Use AI like an amplifier for your best ideas. After many conversations and a lot of reflection, I'm excited to share that next week I'll be continuing at Zillow in a new role focused on executive and employee experience programs. I'll be partnering with leaders across Zillow to create experiences that foster connection, strengthen culture, and bring our distributed teams together, from executive events and Hack Week to zRetreats and company-wide programs. I'm especially excited to build on the part of my work I've always loved most: bringing people together and creating experiences that make people feel connected to each other and to Zillow's mission. If you know me...you know 💙 I'm also thinking a lot about the talented teammates and friends whose Zillow chapters are ending. This is a difficult moment for many people I care about, and I'm grateful for the years we've shared, the work we've done together, and the friendships we've built along the way. I have no doubt they'll carry the same talent, passion, and humanity into whatever comes next. And to the current and former ZG'ers who reached out with such kind, supportive texts, emails, LinkedIn messages, calls, advice, and memories, thank you, thank you, thank you! I'm grateful that our paths crossed and that I got to know so many of you along the way.

We've been friends since Dropbox, and somehow, through job changes, different cities, and all the life that's happened in between, we've kept showing up for one another. Our conversations are rarely just catch-ups. They're usually somewhere between product critiques, AI rabbit holes, design, culture, life, confidence, and asking each other, "Are we thinking about this the right way?" We've challenged each other, built each other up, shared opportunities, celebrated wins, and honestly just made each other better over the years. I really believe everyone needs people like this in their corner—people who sharpen your thinking, expand your perspective, and keep pushing you to grow. (Also... we're all Cancers, which honestly explains this screenshot more than I'd like to admit 😂.) And before anyone asks... Tuyen Truong reacted on thisTuyen Truong reacted on thisTwo patents from my time at Dropbox were published this spring, which is kind of wild to me. I've always seen myself as someone who wanted to create things, but being a lead inventor on a patent was never something I imagined. Looking back, it's funny that both patents explored a similar question: how can we focus on keeping people in their creative flow? One focused on preserving your workflow as you move across devices. The other explored how uploaded content could automatically trigger the right workflows, reducing manual effort. Huge shout out to my incredible co-inventors, Jode-Leigh Nembhard and Chris Oladapo. Thanks for exploring ideas with me and helping turn them into something tangible. One thing I continue to reflect on is that invention is cumulative. We all build on the work of others, and hopefully, others will one day build on ours.

Two years ago I started the STATE Design Collective as a resource for early career designers. It took 2 months to get a team together, define business objectives, plan a roadmap, and collect funding before finishing a single project. This year I deployed STATE as a production grade web application solo. The tech stack was GPT-5 for research, Figma for design, Claude for code. The MVP milestone was completed in two days and the app soft launched two days later. What I learned from this process is that AI makes building the easy part. With GPT and Claude handling the research and code, the bottleneck becomes polish and positioning. These are the things that separated my 2024 from the 2026 product. Research: Case studies and interviews took weeks. AI scraping takes minutes. Design: Teams in rooms produced quality work slowly. Generative AI gives instant high-fidelity options, freeing up decision-making time. Development: More people means slower decisions. AI removes the friction of coordination. Quality: This is where humans still shine. Catching details, understanding nuance, and knowing what actually feels polished. Managing AI agents to make human-quality decisions is still time-consuming. Market: Only humans know what humans want. Now that everything sounds generated, human authenticity feels premium in the sea of AI slop. The real lesson: Winning in the AI era requires shipping fast but more importantly shipping clean. Unfortunately, what AI provides in making development faster, it removes by making products less reliable. This means investing less time in development and more time in polish and positioning. AI made me a better builder. It also made me realize that human centered design and strategy are still key.
