The Director of Business Development works closely with firm leadership and the marketing team to define and execute the organization’s business development and marketing strategy. This individual leads sales efforts across the firm and oversees marketing initiatives where business development and marketing intersect.


This role takes a lead position in developing and implementing client relationship strategies with a strong emphasis on client satisfaction and long‑term partnerships. The Director is responsible for building and maintaining both internal and external relationships that support strategic growth.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, an excellent communicator (written, verbal, and in‑person), and comfortable presenting to senior stakeholders and clients.


Essential Job Functions & Leadership Responsibilities

New Business Development

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities through strategic prospecting and networking
  • Build and maintain a robust pipeline of potential clients and projects
  • Grow, maintain, and leverage a professional network to meet prospective clients
  • Identify key decision‑makers within target organizations
  • Research and establish relationships with new and prospective clients
  • Coordinate and lead meetings between client decision‑makers, firm leadership, and subject matter experts
  • Plan and deliver tailored client approaches and presentations
  • Collaborate with internal teams to develop proposals aligned with client needs, objectives, and RFP requirements
  • Address client concerns and objections by clarifying expectations and working toward positive outcomes
  • Represent the firm professionally and adapt communication style to align with client culture and values


Client Retention & Relationship Management

  • Introduce new solutions and services to strengthen existing client relationships
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure client needs and expectations are met
  • Coordinate and participate in internal and external client debriefs
  • Engage in key account management and governance activities


Business Development Planning & Strategy

  • Attend industry events, conferences, association meetings, and trade shows to stay informed on market and design trends
  • Provide insight and recommendations to leadership on market conditions and growth opportunities
  • Identify and support marketing and prospecting campaigns that drive new business
  • Analyze market and competitor activity to develop compelling value propositions and differentiators


Management, Research & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate business development data and reporting systems
  • Ensure prequalification requirements and vendor registrations are completed in a timely manner
  • Promote consistent, professional representation of the firm by all team members
