Six cutters formerly homeported in Bahrain will now patrol Western Pacific waters as an expeditionary squadron.

U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Munro monitored the Chinese research ship Xue Long as it transited north through the U.S. “exclusive economic zone.”

The U.S. Coast Guard and partner agencies located a missing fisherman who went fishing off St. Thomas on Thursday and did not return as expected, the service announced in a news release Friday.

The U.S. Coast Guard has given the green light to shipyards in Louisiana and Finland to start work on the first six new icebreaking Arctic Security Cutters.

The crew members are safe with non-serious injuries, and the crash is under investigation.

“Rescue crews from Sitka Fire and Rescue arrived on scene at approximately 11:00 a.m. and transported all four crew members to the local hospital,” said Lt. Pam Manns, public affairs officer, U.S. Coast Guard Arctic District Public Affairs.
