A top Australian university, thousands of students and faculty across multiple campuses, running an outdated virtual desktop platform that was holding academic modernisation back. Four problems at once. No MFA, no true single sign-on. A Windows 10 to Windows 11 transition still ahead of them. Physical computer labs that were expensive to run and maintain. And academic software like IBM SPSS that had to reach students virtually. Rather than upgrade the technical debt, we built greenfield. A completely new, cloud-native, education-optimised workspace designed from scratch instead of inherited. New Windows 11 golden images for floating desktops. MFA and SSO for security and simpler access. Physical labs replaced with virtual desktops reachable from anywhere. SPSS tested, virtualised and delivered through RDSH with performance and licensing compliance intact. Anunta ran design, build, test and user acceptance end to end. Since 2020, most enterprises bought well. Collaboration tools, endpoint platforms, security layers, a wave of SaaS for working anywhere. Each solved a real problem. There is no single tool that secures a shop floor. If someone is trying to sell you one, they are overpromising. Real endpoint security in an OT environment comes from a handful of disciplines working together, consistently, day after day. Five of them do most of the heavy lifting. 1. Continuous visibility. You cannot protect what you cannot see, so monitoring has to reach every IT and OT endpoint, not just the convenient ones. 2. Patch and vulnerability management. Updates have to land without taking production offline, which is its own quiet discipline in an OT setting. 3. Network segmentation and Zero Trust. If something does get in, tight segmentation stops it from drifting sideways into the systems that matter most. 4. Privileged access management. Far fewer people need access to critical systems than usually have it, and closing that gap shrinks the attack surface fast. 5. Threat detection and response. When something looks wrong, speed is everything. Catching and containing it early is the difference between an incident and a headline. None of this is new. The hard part is doing all five well, everywhere, without slowing the business down. That is where the platform matters. The same unpatched device is a completely different problem depending on the industry it sits in. In finance, it is a compliance exposure. The regulations behind PCI DSS, FFIEC and SOX expect continuous monitoring, and a single blind spot can turn a routine audit into a very bad week.
