Fighting Book Bans
Book bans are now impacting millions of students in America, and they disproportionately target BIPOC and LGBTQ+ authors. If you would like to get involved, our How to Address Book Challenges guide is a good place to get your start. You can also take a look at our Join the Fight to Protect the Freedom to Read page where you can learn more about other organizations addressing censorship. You can also report instances of soft censorship directly to WNDB.
Native Literature
Less than two percent of children’s books published in the US depict Native characters, but WNDB is striving to change that. Our website Indigenous Reads Rising shines a spotlight on Native children’s literature and includes resources for educators. We’re also proud to partner with Heartdrum, an imprint at HarperCollins that focuses on publishing Native Books by Native authors.
