For the first time in almost three months, SpaceX is getting ready to launch its Starship rocket. Starship has made headlines this year because it exploded several times in the air and on the ground. Last year, 2024, was much better, with four successful launches and new achievements on every flight.

The upcoming launch is the fourth test flight of 2025 and the tenth overall since demonstrations began in April 2023. All Starship test flights, including this one, will have a SpaceX webcast from liftoff to landing. SpaceX plans the 10th Starship flight test on Sunday, Aug. 24, with a target liftoff of 7:30 p.m. ET, as stated by USA Today.

    Starship launch time and location

Starship flights happen at SpaceX’s Starbase headquarters in South Texas, about 23 miles from Brownsville near the U.S.-Mexico border. In May, Texas voters in Cameron County approved Starbase to become a city, with its own mayor and city council. You can watch the launch on SpaceX as they will be livestreaming 30 minutes before liftoff. The webcast is available on SpaceX’s website, social media platform X.

    Starship mission goals and size

SpaceX plans to attempt returning the upper stage of Starship to the launch site for the first time. SpaceX has already proven it can return and "catch" the massive rocket booster (Super Heavy) at Starbase during three previous launches since October, as reported by USA Today.

SpaceX will try for a fourth attempt at deploying test Starlink satellites, something it has not succeeded in yet. The Super Heavy booster will perform several in-flight experiments before making a water landing off the Gulf of Mexico, recently renamed by the U.S. government as the Gulf of America.

What is Starship? For securing future space mentions—and musk’s ambition to send humans to mars—starship is being turned into a reusable rocket. Starship stands 403 feet tall when stacked, making it the world’s largest and most powerful launch vehicle, as mentioned by USA Today.

The Super Heavy rocket is composed of 232 feet, powered by 33 Raptor engines for liftoff thrust. The Upper stage Starship is composed of 171 feet, powered by 6 Raptor engines that travel in orbit with crew and cargo, as per reports.
