Govinda's wife Sunita Ahuja files for divorce citing 'cruelty and adultery,' claims report. Here's what we know

    Synopsis

Reports indicate that Sunita Ahuja has filed for divorce from Govinda, citing cruelty and adultery after nearly four decades of marriage. The divorce petition was allegedly submitted in December 2024, leading to court-ordered counseling sessions. While a close friend downplays the separation rumors, suggesting typical marital ups and downs, speculation about Govinda's closeness to a co-star has fueled the reports.

Bollywood veteran Govinda and his wife, Sunita Ahuja, have found themselves at the center of intense divorce speculation, with multiple outlets reporting that Sunita has moved court to end their nearly four-decade-long marriage. According to Hauterrfly, Sunita has allegedly filed a divorce petition citing “cruelty and adultery” as grounds.

Reports suggest that Sunita approached the Bandra Family Court on December 5, 2024, under Section 13 (1) (i), (ia), and (ib) of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955. The grounds mentioned include adultery, cruelty, and desertion. Court documents accessed by Hauterrfly claim that Govinda was summoned but only responded after a notice was issued in May 2025. Since June, the couple has reportedly been attending court-ordered counseling sessions.

A close friend of Govinda, speaking on condition of anonymity, dismissed the separation rumors, saying, “They have been married for 38 years. Like all couples, they have their ups and downs. Tell me, which couple doesn’t have differences?” The friend admitted that the pair often engaged in heated arguments, sometimes even “violent,” but insisted that Govinda always returned home. According to the friend, Sunita is central to Govinda’s emotional well-being, and a permanent split is unlikely.

Meanwhile, Govinda's manager Shashi Sinha dubbed it as old news. "This is the same old news which came out six-seven months ago. Sunita had filed a divorce petition six-seven months ago, now everything is getting settled. In a week or so everyone will hear the news," Govinda's manager Shashi Sinha told PTI.

"The whole family is going to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi festival together for which, Sunita is busy doing the preparation," he added. Govinda's lawyer Lalit Bindal also dismissed the report, calling it an "old news".

Back in February, when similar rumors made headlines, Sunita strongly denied them. She stated: “The day such news becomes fact—or when Govinda and I choose to speak about it ourselves—that will be different. But until then, don’t believe hearsay. I know in my heart Govinda cannot be without me, and I cannot exist without him.”

    Rumors of Co-Star Link-Up

Fueling speculation, some entertainment portals suggested that Govinda’s alleged closeness to a 30-year-old Marathi co-star may have strained the marriage. However, Govinda dismissed such talk, telling ETimes, “There are only business talks going on… I am in the process of starting my films.”

Amid the ongoing rumors, Govinda was recently spotted at the airport, smiling, interacting with the paparazzi, and blowing kisses, showing no outward signs of trouble.

Married since 1987, the couple share two children, Tina and Yashvardhan.

Govinda, one of the biggest stars of the 1990s, last appeared in "Rangeela Raja" in 2019 and has been active in politics since joining Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena in 2024.
