Sridevi refused to share her room with husband Boney Kapoor during the shoot of her last film

Sridevi needs no introduction. The legendary actress gave Indian cinema some of its most iconic and unforgettable performances. When the news of her sudden passing in February 2018 broke, it left the nation shocked and heartbroken. The actress died in a tragic accident, drowning in a hotel bathtub in Dubai. Even years after her death, Sridevi continues to be remembered not just for her body of work but also for the dedication and discipline she brought to her craft. One of the finest examples of this is her final film, Mom (2017), which marked her 300th appearance on screen. Recently, Sridevi's husband and producer of Mom, Boney Kapoor, opened up about the lengths to which she went to ensure the film’s success.

He revealed that Sridevi voluntarily gave up Rs 70 lakh from her acting fee just so that the team could afford Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman for the film’s music. He shared at Game Changers, , "During Mom’s shoot, we wanted to bring AR Rahman on board, but his fee was beyond our budge. We had set aside a certain amount for Sridevi’s fee. But she told me to not give her the remaining balance, which was around Rs 50–70 lakh. She insisted we use that money to get Rahman instead."

This decision showed her commitment not just as an actress but as someone who believed in the overall vision of the film. She didn’t just act in the film; she invested emotionally and even financially to raise its quality.

That wasn’t the only sacrifice she made. Boney also shared a surprising detail about their time on set. Despite being husband and wife, Sridevi refused to share a room with him during the entire shoot of Mom.

"She told me she didn’t want to be distracted." Boney shared that Sridevi was so immersed in the character that she wanted to stay in that zone. She didn't want to feel like a real-wife during the shoot. She only wanted to be a Mom.


According to Boney Kapoor, the final version of the film was actually the 21st draft of the script. Most of the filming took place in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, and Georgia, and throughout the entire schedule, Sridevi maintained her professional distance, staying fully committed to the role. For the unversed, Mom received two awards at the 65th National Film Awards: Best Actress (Sridevi, the first posthumous award in that category) and Best Background Score ( AR Rahman)
