All eyes will be on the Bihar poll scene towards the end of 2025 as the state votes in a new government after half a decade. While there has been no official indication on polling dates yet, the consensus estimate is that all 243 constituencies of the state will likely go to polls in November, before the current govt's term comes to an end.

Bihar is currently under National Democratic Alliance (NDA) rule with CM Nitish Kumar at the helm, and his term ends on November 22, 2025.

A close electoral fight is being expected in Bihar this year between the NDA led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Janata Dal United (JDU), and the Mahagathbandhan or INDIA bloc headed by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress party.

In Bihar this year, the stage is also set for a big-bang poll debut as Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party will fight in all the seats.

Bihar: The previous election
The last assembly elections in the state were held in October–November 2020. In the 2020 polls, the NDA emerged victorious and formed the government, with Nitish Kumar taking the Chief Minister's office.

However, in an about-turn in August 2022, Nitish took his party JD(U) out of the NDA fold and took up with the RJD to form a new govt.

But in January 2024, in another about-turn, Nitish left the RJD in lurch and went back to the BJP-led NDA, forming yet another new govt.
